Dual wield blocking

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 2:38 am

I was just wondering, if I have a sword in each hand, is there going to be a way to block? Or will I just have to jump around and try to dodge every attack?

Holding LB and RB on the top of the controller blocks for duel wielding.

there will be blocking i believe/hope. crossing swords to block... it's very "Liu Bei".

hmm... would two daggers be able to block though? maybe we won't be able to...

I dunno, any fantasy novel I've read where there is a dual wielder includes blocking with either blade as needed. Kinda doesn't make sense to have a duel without blocking. I hope hard that there is blocking with at least one of the blades, maybe at the expense of the endurance/effectiveness of the blade.

Didn't they say no blocking while duel wielding? Only the timed shield blocks since the same button held down bashes.

Holding LB and RB on the top of the controller blocks for duel wielding.

Where is the confirmation for this? I've seen about an equal amount of people saying LT+RT as people saying no blocking w/ dual wielding.

I think they said no blocking while holding a single-handed weapon and a spell. and i think i remember that this info came from a possibly falsely translated foreign article.

Todd explicitly said in an interview you cannot block if you have the sword spell combo. The reasons for this were the same justifications given here: it makes you think a bit more about what you are gonna use, and its consequences.

As for pressing the bumpers to block, I have no idea where that info is.

I will use two shields, if they can deal damage in some way and if they have finishers.

This was denied i believe. somewhere in this forum... here you go:

Two things on that PC Gamer article

1) They probably should have said two-handed weapons. As Todd has mentioned in other places, there are no spears
2) You do not have the ability to wield two shields…. that’s inaccurate”

Maybe there is a perk that gives you a chance to automatically block/parry.

Would be a regression in combat mechanics if they did. Not having ability to block is one thing, bringing any part of the hit and miss aspect of morrowind and mixing it with the mainly real time and controlled style combat is entirely another and would be annoying enough to put me off any fighting style that would use it altogether.

I don't see the problem, really. It makes the most sense for dual-wielding.

That's what GI stated and that's the most confirmation we have till now. But everyone is disturbed by one PS3 mag footage that states you can't block with spell in one hand and sword in the other... And everyone is hoping that's just a mistake in that mag...

You should be able to use any weapon to block. Now, using a dagger to block a claymore shouldn't be all that effective...... but, using your longsword to block a dagger? Shouldn't matter what you have in your other hand.

I dont like the idea of not being able to block while weilding a spell and a sword. If I have a weapon in one hand I should damn well be able to block with it!

I don't know how you get that RB and LB will be used for blocking. GI specifically stated that RB is the designated dragonshout button.

A dagger is used most efficiently as a stabbing weapon, you won't be able to block that with a sword.

A sword however, is a slashing weapon that can be used to stab, but much slower and has a larger surface area - blocking it's motions with another sword is feasible, especially when slashing.

This is how I feel it will go down. They say that if you have a shield in your left hand and your sword in your right, you use LT in perfect timing with the enemy's attack to block it. I bet if you are dual-wielding two swords (or any combination of melee weapons), you will be able to use either LT or RT in perfect timing to block the enemy's attack with one of your swords just as if you were holding a shield instead. Seems logical, yes? :)
