Dual-Wield with Heavy Armor - getting killed non-stop

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 5:28 am

I am wearing Iron Armor.

I am Dual Wielding and have been putting points into One-H almost exclusively.

I am getting destroyed.

Mobs destroy me if melee.

Mages destroy me - even 1v1 they often win.

I have put 50/50 into Health/Stamina.

!?!?!? Is it just hard at the opening levels or ?????

Help.

Are you using a companion? Are you enchanting your armor and weapons?

Either one of those will fix your problem. I'm running around with no enchants and my companion mage keeps up the slack (yes... mage NPCs are really OP if you don't have enchantments with the +resist)

I would definitely devote more stats to health and quite a few perks to heavy armor. Dual wielding was designed with a serious hole in defenses, if you're not balancing that out, you will get demolished quite simply. As of right now it sounds like you're nullifying hardly any incoming damage outside of the base layer of armor.

Remember.... Weapon blocking does not equal Shield Blocks at all. You're possibly getting destroyed because you are barely blocking attacks... if at all. At least not the same as a shield will.
Enchants and such will help.... Go to the Smithery and craft the armor to improve it. Every little bit helps.

Get better armor. Iron is the worst heavy armor available.

Dont feel bad, im on level 11 and I must have died about 20 times or so, before I hit level 10. Playing on adept. You may wanna get your armor perk up and use a shield with your one handed weapon.

Yeah, dual wielding + putting all perks in single-handed + not upgrading from iron armor + no perks in heavy armor sounds like you're waaaaaay overbalancing to the offense.

Don't worry it'll get better later on. Keep on trying to increase your damage output by getting your 1h skill up. Mages will always be a pain in the ass though. And I personally put all points into HP until I hit L20. By that point mobs started getting a load easier, and I could put more points into stamina.

I didn't like dual-wielding in heavy armour. It fits light armour+daggers well as you can stay on the move and kite the enemy quite effectively.

I find dual wielding works better with light armor. You have to dodge with dual wielding. Also, use a longsword in one hand and a dagger in the other. Your double power attacks will be much faster that way. So, it goes like this:dodge, step in, standing still double power attack. Back off, using the longsword to chop away some health while you retreat. When they get close, do a standing left hand power attack. (Right mouse button) That little slash quick stab move is a fantastic lifesaver and usually staggers your opponent. Also, the dual wield perks should be your first order of business. Use the dunmer guy at the companions to train in one-handed. Finally, always improve/enchant your weapons. Do this, and you can kill dragons inside of six seconds if they land. It takes some work, but when you get there, dual wielding is ridiculously powerful.

Agreed Gram. Put your next available funds into a heavy armor trainer and put three perk points into Juggernaut. That should help. Also, start smithing. You'll keep levelling and within a day you will have amazing armor. Companion Questline will get you enough money to fund these things.

Edit: Problem is, Eolath, that dual wielding you NEED to power attack, usually more than once a battle. Try putting like 2 into health then 1 into stam. Or drink a lot of stam potions.

Yeah, I've found mages to be a real PITA; they seem to take as long to kill in robes as bandits in light armor do - longer, actually. Bandits have been going down with two chops of the axe apiece, while mages are taking some real hacking at.

Aren't there gobs of people around here complaining about how weak Destruction magic is, too? Not when you're on the receiving end, from what I've seen.

Whilst I think you are trolling. Dual wielding is considered to be very strong. Up there with archery.

Stick an absorb health enchantment on one/both of your weaps, and keep it charged at all times. It helps quite a lot.

You using the Dual weild power attacks by pressing both attack buttons at once? It took me a while to realize that there was a seperate power attack for dual-weilding......

Oddly enough, my dual-wield character is having a much easier time than my shield character did (so far - level 8). It seems that being able to disable/kill enemies faster outweighs the inability to block, so far.

This is in leather armour (fine) with 2 enchanted orcish swords (fire and shock), 4 points in 1h (damage perk, attack speed perk and critical perk), 2 points in light armour, all stat points in health. Was surprised at how fast a snow troll went down (with Lydia's help) considering how much trouble my shield character had with this creature.

Archery comes in very handy for a dual-wield tank character. It provides ranged attacks that are useful in many circumstances.

I am a level 27 Redguard and I dual wield w/ heavy armor. I'm not having any issues at all. I do about 60/40 ratio of health to stamina, I've maxxed out smithing and put points into 1 hand, heavy armor, and archery. The heavy armor helps allow me to take a bit of damage. I also use poisons.

Agreed, it is what I did, I went heavy armor, and one handed, then took the DW perk for speed. But I have alot of perk points in HA. So I can wade in DWing and kick ass. I keep a shield handy though for those tough fights and have perks in shield as well.
