Being unable to block while dual wielding doesn't make the game more balanced, it ruins the balance. As said before, a sword and shield style of combat actually uses the shield quite heavily for offense. Therefore it wouldn't be fair for a dual-wielding style to completely forsake defense. And for those who are trying to argue that you can't block with a weapon (instead of parrying), take it from someone who actually knows sword technique - YOU CAN. My experience is limited to kendo and katana, but blocking is always an option. A trained swordsman will almost always avoid edge-on-edge contact if possible, instead using the flat of the blade to either deflect a strong blow, or completely stop a weak but quick blow (blocking). Actually blocking an incoming strike with the edge of your weapon will severely damage the blade, however if given the choice between damaging the weapon or losing your life, the choice should be obvious. So perhaps a good compromise in this game would be to allow blocking with dual-wielding or blade-only styles, but a successful block would damage the weapon a lot faster. Ideally, a parrying system would be fantastic as well.
