Dual wielding perk.

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 7:25 pm

I'm not violently opposed to dual wielding, I mean if it can be done in the real world, it would be sort of a cop out not to include it in a game that is trying to simulate a "realistic world". As long as the appropriate benefits and penalties apply such as a higher rate of fire, but with decreased accuracy and slower ammo reload times (a realistic animation where each gun is alternately holstered and loaded shouldn't be impossible) and an inability to aim down the sights when dual wielding for obvious reasons...

It should be as awkward to fire dual guns in game as it would be in real life, barring any type of "improved dual wielding" perk that would help with accuracy and speed.

I'm largely against it. I say largely for a reason. I don't think dual wielding should be allowed outside the realm of pistols and light melee weapons (IE knives and pipes), even then, it should require a 60+ guns/melee skill to do so. Why? Because realistically, dual wielding two 44 magnums is going to get you little wore than two concussions on the head. I don't care if you saw some redneck on youtube do it, just because one guy might be able to dual wield doesnt mean we all can.

Assault rifles, SMGs, miniguns, shotguns, sledgehammers, super sledges, etc shouldnt be dual wieldable period. So what if you can do it on CoD or Halo? Those games arent marketed with the slightest sense of realism, their FPS with little story and more about 'Run N Gun'. In an RPG like Fallout, if Dual Wielding was to be added, it'd have to be something you'd HAVE to insert 60+ into, like in real life, you'd have to train your character to be able to even remotely dual wield uneasily.

Dual wielding single handed ranged weapons would work better as a trait and not a perk. An accuracy penalty is required for both balance and for some sense realism. Not even elite SAS commandos can dual wield 9mm pistols with any degree of accuracy.

So yeah, dual wielding at a trait with a +50% spread might work in theory. Getting such a thing coded, tested and debugged (lol) into the game under the development constraints of a DLC might be a problem.

There's plenty of dual wielding rednecks on youtube come to think of it... ;)

How practical it would be in actual combat is another matter entirely. :P

I love how some people feel they are the final authority on all things Fallout. I get a real kick out of it.

I'm all for dual-wielding. It's cool, and it's totally workable. As for reloading... play some L4D and see how it works with the dual pistols. Of course, you wouldn't be able to just go around dual-wielding anything you wanted. It would have to be available only for one-handed weapons.

Only reason I think it wouldn't get into New Vegas at all is because it requires changes to animations and I just don't think they'll do that. Unfortunately.

he's not referring to Assault Rifles, miniguns, shotguns, sledgehammers and super sledges, and I dont see why SMGs or a Sawed-Off Shotgun couldn't be dual wieldable.
ontopic: It would be pretty cool, reloading by holstering one gun and quickly reload the other would work, I guess.

I agree, it would be better if it is a trait.

Is this something that could be done on the PC modding side of things? I think its a great idea I could really RP a Gunslinger (Roland of Gilead) type character and I could care less about proper reload animations. svcks i mostly play on the console due to lack of PC repair funds. Pair this with the unlimited agility exploit from DM and you could have a character as fast as the fictional archetype from the Dark Tower series.

Yes i agree. I own guns. So are they gonna tell that im a redneck. I almost wanted to punch my one friend in the face when he said that people that own more than like 5 or 7 guns are rednecks?!! How does that make any sense.

I think it would be a nice perk to pick, but the time, effort, money, engine change, an animation needs, dictate it will not happen with the current Gamebryo engine, so you need to petition for it in the next FO game. /

no this ist cod where a guy can shoot two lever action shotguns and spin then around like arnold. they would knock that cod fool down. if the put dual 44s in vats better say 1% torso from 10 feet because the kick back would strain your wrist after shoting all the bullets you may have crippled arms. only 9s and 10s and maybe the 357 would work subs only the lazer tommy gun becausd it has little recoil and the 9. but all of this sounds like more freezing they need to put their time into freezing and choppiness

its a game, duel wielding doesnt mean you have to fire both guns at once, gunslingers of the old west would have 2 guns and they never crippled their arms. Sure it would put strain on your wrist but in a game where you can turn someone into a pile of goo I think we can overlook the wrist strain.

I too am a huge fan of the Dark Tower Series (read Gunslinger 4 times, the rest two each). An overhaul of the Gunslinger perk would be cool, where you could dual wield two revolvers. Throw in an awesome "Quick Draw" perk that causes you to enter a sort of bullet time state for a few seconds after you draw and I'd be in heaven.

Off Topic: Can you believe Javier Bardem might be Roland in the live action movie? Great actor but iunno if he can pull it off...

He goes through so many age changes within the story you would need multiple actors to pull it off. I could see a young Clint Eastwood as a good pick to bad he is to old now. I honestly think some kind of animation would be best way to make this series work on the screen as live action in a sci-fi western type atmosphere is hard to pull off and draw folks in mainstream(Firefly anyone?). Usually if its something I like it gets canceled, but that is the life of sci fi fan I guess.

Oh and as far as I know the quick reload perk does not work right but I am not sure about the quick draw one. Because of the agility exploit my draw and reloads are insanely quick already. Wish I had known about that exploit prior to my newest build, I could have used agility as a dump stat. Oh well. Maybe down the road if I ever do another build. I am pretty happy with all the ones I have so far.
