Dual Wielding

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 2:42 pm

Should you be allowed to dual wield swords in tes: 5?

Though perhaps not practical in real life, there is a certain sense of coolness and dexterity to characters with the feature, so I would say yes, after a minor skill check

I would also say it could open the door to offensive shield attacks and perhaps wielding 2 shields at once (albeit shields with lots of deadly spikes)

Anyway what are your thoughts on the matter?

Yeah good idea! But only for daggers and short swords, to make it more realistic.

I'm not really enthusiastic one way or another.

Dual wielding is cool and all, but I'd expect it to be balanced to factor in the many disadvantages. Also, fighting style is completely different when wielding two weapons.. so it would mean a whole new set of animations.

I think it would be too much hassle to be worth the implementation, but if it does end up in game I won't be upset.

As long as the fighting system has been replaced with something more fluent, and human-like i agree. I do not want my arms to swing weapons like theyre attached to a pulley system. I also think that wielding two weapons should be something that you really have to build experiences towards. Like, Wielding two battle axes should really be an indicator of how much of a badass you, or another npc really is. Almost, a determining factor in wether or not you or the npc wishes to fight their enemy.

No I don't want Dual Wielding leave that area to the Bioware Games.

I think an off-hand weapon such as a Tanto or small knife is totally feasible.
Can't say i'd be a huge fan of dual weilding Warhammers or Battleaxes, but I think a parrying style weapon would be cool.

I honestly don't see why not. It should come with its own separate skill which can minimise the penalty to block (very important in Skyrim which should be rich with huge Nords wielding huge battle axes) which means that it is more costly skill point wise (depending on Skyrim's levelling system) to maintain, but yeah I don't see why it shouldn't be included.

Rogues especially would benefit both aesthetically and statistically. I don't know about anyone else but having my rogue characters use shields just feels completely wrong, and that other hand is going to waste.

Edit: you should only be able to duel wield shortswords and down in terms of weapon size though.

Ok, at first when i read the title i just thought NO!, but after thinking about it, im going to say yes.......... aslong as its shortswords and daggers, like the above poster said.

Reasons being, we can use a sheild ( i hope anyway ), which is probably heavier then a dagger anyway, if not a short sword.

Yes is properly balanced.

I'd have it down as a balanced style. Weaker defenses than sword and board, but better offense. Weaker attack than a two handed weapon but better defense. Both better attack and better defenses than just a single blade.

Daggers and short swords would be awesome. Would make it cool to try out a rogue like character.
