Dual Wielding VS Two-Handed Weapons

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:34 pm

I've experimented with dual wielding and having to alternative between the left and right bumper for attacks is a chore. Also it seems as though my left handed attack is easily blocked by opponents. The one great thing about dual is the double power attack. It totally raqes everything and is the only reason to use it IMO. Haven't touched two-handed weapons

Is two-handed worth it to make a tank character around it, and am i wrong about dual wielding? What are the pros/cons of each style for those who have used it.

Two handed with quickreflex/deadlybash/better crits
I say use a sword because it swings faster and you get crits faster. Then comes the fact that you can out reach other fighters, there have been many battles won against a superior foe where he couldent get any hits in.
Combine it with slow time and your unstoppable

You've just stated that you do not really even understand how dual-wielding even works. Alternating with the bumpers does absolutely nothing beneficial, and in fact has the adverse effect of actually making your auto attacks slower than if you simply mashed one attack button. The auto attack for both dual-wileding and one-handed are the same. The primary benefit of dual-wilding is the power attack. It does much more than what you can get with a two-handed weapon when you have the required perks. It also scales much better with weapons than the two-handed variant when you factor Elemental Fury or enchants. You can also tap both attack buttons to swipe out with both swords (not a power attack) and each sword can hit a differnt target.

That being said, as far as "ease of use" and "fun factor", I think two-handed weapons win out. They are much more reliable to implement during combat due to the slight increase in range for most fights and the auto attack range allows you to "joust" with hard hitting enemies without being hit yourself. The range on the dual-wielding power attack requires that you are virtually kissing your target or half, or even all of your swings will miss. However, if you play on Master difficulty, sword and shield staggers or knockdowns followed by switching to dual-wielding when they cannot fight back is the way to go.

Hmm.. two Legendary Ebony axes that both do 100 dmg.. Along with a bunch of perks to further their damage output. I'm going with DW.

Your axes only do more damage when all of the hits from your power attack land. That is the only time. It mostly boils down to prefernce as well as the type of character you are using. For an Archer or Mage that uses melee as a backup or desperation move, they have absolutely no reason to pick dual-wilding over a two-handed weapon.

I prefer 2H but I also play on master.

DW does more raw damage but 2H can block and bash to stagger(just like a shield, although it doesn't block as much damage). The damage really is still very good and with elemental fury swings as fast as a dagger.
