Dual wielding yes or no?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:39 am

I'm fine with it. Sal in BL2 was a blast. Needs some balancing though:

Guns

I don't want it to be a trait or perk that you pick up. Instead, I want it to be a core mechanic that improves with perks (because all things improve with perks):

1) While DW, your spread increases by x% and VATS accuracy decreases by x%.

2) Reload times take x% longer.

Perks

8 Legged Freak: While radiated, you grow extra arms that help out while dual wielding guns, steadying your weapons and helping out with reloading. Decreases spread and increases VATS accuracy by x% while dual wielding and reduces load time by x% when you're suffering from radiation sickness.

Bat outta Hell: Increases fire rate and movement speed (optional, just for flavor) by x% while dual wielding guns.

Melee/Unarmed

With melee and unarmed weapons, your accuracy wouldn't take a dive, but your ability to use both hands on one weapon would weaken some things. For example:

1) Parrying/blocking blocks less damage or has a chance to fail. Fine with either option or even both.

2) "Power strikes" (for lack of a better word) deal x% less damage.

Perks

Two for the show (I can imagine a single handed perk named "One for the Money"): Blocking/parrying while dual wielding instead launches a counter strike with the off handed weapon.

If you don't care about realism remotely then it doesn't matter. But there's no way to reload your weapons when you dual wield. Hollywood is not a good example of realism especially considering their characters in movies shoot a thousand rounds before they reload their weapons once. even with melee weapons I don't see this as a good idea

No dual-wielding for me, thanks. It is quite annoying in Skyrim.

How does the feature you are never required to use annoy you? Unless you mean dual wielding enemies like Briarhearts, to which I ask why you want less variety in enemies?

Yes to dual wield but make it so once either gun is empty your character puts it away and will go back to a single gun till the remaining gun is reloaded then a second is able to be re-equipped if wanted. Would make it a good way to kick off a fight

Shooting with two pistols at once is an circus act not somebody normal do in combat.

Yes with very high skills / perks it start to get plausible as you are very special, however this will put it very near the top of the tree in an specialization on guns.

Not master and it will still bring very high penalties in accuracy, the setting is to maximize dps on close range. And yes kickback from heavier gun will hurt rate of fire a lot unless very strong.

Most use of two guns was not to use both at once but to have more magazine capacity, with muzzle loaders this was an critical issue, even with revolvers it was important in an battle, with pistols it became pretty irrelevant. as they has large magazines and are easy to reload. Trying to reload an revolver on the horseback while people are shooting at you is non trivial.

yeah but Bethesda does a good job of balancing realism/immersivness with fantasy and creativity. like obviously radiation wouldn't do all this in real life but the devs put a lot of time and effort to create an entire universe, giving everything a backstory and making it fit. They don't just plop you in the game and say "here's a BFG go blow some [censored] up" in Fallout like in other games. So there's a balance of realism and fantasy.

If you want me to be super anol and technical: the lone wanderer has already been confirmed to be ex military. meaning he has military training on firearms. Soldiers don't dual wield because firing 2 guns at the same time makes BOTH of them useless. 1) your accuracy will be awful. (biologically humans cant aim 2 different guns even if you train for it) and 2) you can't reload without putting them both down which would take forever.

bottom line is that firing 1 gun with 2 hands is more accurate and kills bad guys faster than firing 2 guns.

sorry to be a buzzkill, I know it's just a game. here's a link

It is already in the game, at least in New Vegas

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Love_and_Hate

This does hit on each weapon. I give this to Veronica is the DPS is such that she will wear it over most any other weapon and not have that huge power fist hanging off her arm.

Back on topic, why do people want Dual Wield in a game? Is it because it is just about useless in real life?

While all of that's true, Fallout 4 is first and foremost a game, not a simulation. Realism is often thrown to the wind in favor of better gameplay. Take the simple mechanic of health even. It's not a realistic mechanic at all, but getting one shot if someone happens to hit you in the head isn't fun for most players out there. I'm absolutely positive Beth would sacrifice realism in favor of more fun/better game play.

If we are completely tossing realism out the door I want to be able to catch bullets and throw them back at the enemy while I dual wield fat mans and have invincible slave girls kneeling at my feet.

Sure, you can make the argument that games are not realistic. They arent. But where does it end? Shouldn't they TRY to be real? Shouldn't a game like fallout be easy enough to suspend disbelief?

I know what you mean, but I was talking about High-tier Unarmed weapons. To only have low-tier/ mid-tier unarmed weapons have the ability but suddenly prevent it with Power Fists/Gauntlet weapons is overall stupid. Also, Yes, Love and HAte is probably one of the coolest Unarmed weapons out there in Vegas :P

My problem is that when you add something like this it has to be slipped into the core mechanics which means everything has to be re-balanced which means the current core mechanics get shifted around. It is an un-needed alteration that risks damaging the current balance, Skyrim messed it up doing just this thing as it brought about the "magic as a held weapon" garbage that deleted tons of class themes like Paladins and such

If the game had dual wielding of any sort they most certainly would show it at the e3 demo.

When you hold a one-handed weapon and you ready a spell, you wind up with your weapon in one hand and a spell in the other. You dual-wield by default.

I frequently use a one-handed weapon without a shield. I like to block, and I like to cast spells, but when I ready a spell, the function of the right mouse button changes from block to cast, and I lose my ability to block. I prefer being able to block, so I put spells away as soon as I am finished with them. Unfortunately, I cannot unready a spell with a hotkey. To put away a spell, which I frequently do, I must use Skyrim's cumbersome and problematic inventory interface.

Bethesda's implementation of dual wield interferes with my doing what I would rather be doing. I am forced to jump through hoops to get it out of my face.

As an option yes, but it should have a downside. Accuracy should lower when dual wielding pistols, or other fire arms.... both in vats and outside vats... Melee weapons should take a slight damage decrease if dual wielding weapons that usually are two handed, a high strength should determine whether you can duel wield two handed melee weapons, as well as machineguns.

Yes... because everyone knows the main protagonists of all Fallout games are so awesome, they defy all common sense! Remember, these people usually run towards the blood curdling screams... not away.

Well, at this point the game is basically finished. If dual wielding is there, those naysayers are just going to have to live with a feature being in the game that they may never use. If it is not built in, then all the pro Dual Wielding folks will have to adjust their expectations. Either way, somebody is going to burr upside their proverbial bottom side.
