Duct-taped clips?

Post » Mon May 09, 2011 11:57 pm

What exactly is the difference between Duct-taped clips and a simple extended clip? I've heard something about faster reload, but no specifics.

Well, an extended "clip" would have more bullets in the magazine, where as a duct-taped "clip" would be two taped together so you pull one out, flip it over and plug the new one in without having to grab one off your belt.

Extended mags add more shots per clip but slow down the reload speed. Bigger the clip, the slower the reload. With duct tape mags, you have a regular sized clip but the reload speed is increased.

just to let you know, don't refer to magazines as clips, newscasters and lawyers do this all the time, it makes em look stupid, i have learned that people that never understood firearms use that term because that is all they hear from the media in movies some games and such.. The "Tryhard" types are the worst though when they try to act like they know firearms and get [censored]ted on when someone that knows firearms throws facts in their face. the worst was from COD: WaW, when people believe that a MP40 is the greatest weapon ever made, truthfully the best were the M1 Garand, M1A1 carbine, MG3, The STG 44, and Mosin Nagant.

Mathon is right on point on the usage of duct-taped Mags.

@Hot Wire: they increase the weight of the weapon when you draw it, run with it, and switch it.

Oh and I'm assuming the extended magazine does this too?

@Dark, Yeah, to be honest, I usually get confused between Clip and Magazine. I think people use Clip because it's shorter and easier to say.

more than likely

@hot-wire: the extended mags weight more and take longer to reload do it being heavier and the fact you have to reach to your mag pouch to get another mag. Duct tape mags weigh double and are right there when you have to reload, the main difference is the extended mags don't have to reload as often to make up for the slower reload time.

Call it a mag (not to be confused with MAG). I refuse to fault people for saying "clip" (notice how I love to quote that).

The magazine is part of the loading mechanism of the weapon, where as a clip (no quotes, actual item) is just ammo packaged neatly. Several older rifles (the garand for example) used clips of ammo because they did not have detachable magazines, but most modern weapons use detachable magazines. If you look inside you'll notice moving parts designed to push the next bullet into the fixed loading mechanism, which then pushes it into the chamber, which then pushes it into the enemy (slightly simplified).

Well, if they work similar to the ones in Blops, they give you one fast reload, one slow reload every second time.

I just hope they do not magically double your stock ammo, because this would mean you'd carry double the weight and should move slower.

As REVO said, the first reload is faster, but the one after that is at normal speed b/c the mag duct taped to it is empty so it only helps every other time which is something important to take in to consideration

If that's the case, I think you will find players firing off one shot just to get the slow reload out of the way.

It wouldn't be a bad strategy though.

whats even worse than that, is that some people think just because an M4 has a slightly longer barrel than what they think the normal length is (like colt commando length), they automatically think that its an M16. they think that just because the barrel doesn't stop at the front sight that it's not an M4. I hate people that aren't educated about firearms
