Duel Option - Suggestions

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:32 pm

Having played in the last 2 Beta Weekends I am sold on this game, an amazing piece of work and one of the best MMO's for many years.

The PVP is amazing and goes a long way to provide the experience of open world PVP that has been missing in recent titles.

One feature I would like to see added is a duel option for members of the same alliance.

I'm sure the players in PVE do not want to be bombarded with invites to duel or for duels to break out in the middle of the crafting tables, but with that said I have jotted down some suggestions for a system which I believe would offer the duel feature without ruining immersion, infact adding in some cases.

Duel System

1. Allows dueling in Cyrodill between members of the same alliance

2. Provide a setting in game options to turn dueling on or off - only those interested in duels will receive the invite when requested.

3. The idea of a duel/sparing fits well within Cyrodill, allowing troops to practice, build PVP builds and do so without disturbing PVE.

4. Make dueling possible in one area - I would suggest in an area near the PVP tutorial quest - down by the practice siege weapons.

5. This would provide great spectator sport and I am sure would be a welcome addition for those trying to learn their class.

Please let me know what you think, and if there are any devs out there please consider adding this.

Why not? Good idea and good fun for those who love PvP and duelling. If it is possible someday, I hopethere will be option for PvErs like me to put this duel thing off.
Got tired of constant duel challenges from WoW players....

I don't really care how they implement it, I just want to see dueling in the game. I don't believe I have read a post where someone was against it. Every single one of my friends who have been in beta with me have said "Hey man, come duel me." "Oh you can't duel, lame."

Maybe we can keep this thread near the top and get some feedback.

Had the same discussion with my buddy in the last Beta, he wanted to Duel and of course could not.

If done right I am sure we could have the feature and make sure it was not intrusive on the PVE aspects of the game.

And with a great team of Dev's such as those in ZOS I'm sure can be implemented with some ease.

No. Dueling leads to cries about class imbalance and results in nerfs and major changes.

The classes in this game have been designed to compliment each other... not compete with each other.

I would like to go further and have more of a staged dueling area. In Oblivion, it is said that Kvatch had an arena before it was burned down. Place an arena there, and add instanced duels.

i think dueling should need a separate area of it's own though, not in cyrodiil

maybe an island people can teleport to with an arena-

oh wait, i've heard so many people saying they don't want arenas already...

No. Dueling,in most cases, is friendly competition. All classes will be competing with eachother in Cyrodiil, large scale, small scale, it doesnt matter. Those same people will cry about game imbalance just the same. It doesn't mean devs have to listen.

For what reason? Because you're bad at 1v1 pvp? Then toggle it off, and never worry about it again. Don't have to punish the rest of us who would really like to see it implemented.

I'm down with the Instanced Dueling. That way, more than one pair of players can duel at one time, it is totally separate from the rest of the PvE world, and it is completely optional and controlled by the player initiating it, rather than being invited.

As for the comment about it encouraging Race/Class disparity, I don't get that. It provides an opportunity to try out a build or setup or new skill or item, without a penalty. If I tell my buddy "Hey, let me wail on you for a minute so I can see how this works," I think that is really helpful. If it leads to me making a better character, that isn't a bad thing. Now, I know what you are saying though. If class A always beats anyone else they dual against, regardless of player, everyone will say that class is OP. And honestly, if that was the case, if it won EVERY time, maybe it is.

Dueling would be nice if only to be able to test data against other players, check out various patterns, but other than that there shouldn't be anything special beyond allowing players to wager money on the winner/loser.

So someone has to be bad a 1v1 PVP to not like it? Dueling is a very annoying, it clutters the towns with 13 year olds who wanna measure their newly found yard sticks.

Wow, I just had a sick idea!! If you had an instanced dueling arena, you could make it 1v1 or 1v2 or 1v3, or whatever! The limit to the number of combatants is endless. That would be ridiculous! You could basically set up whatever "mock" battles you wanted. Now THAT would be crazy fun! Imagine, you're in your guild talking smack to your buddies and you are like "Three DK's could wipe any three other classes any day of the week!" and they are like "oh yeah, prove it!" Bammo, to the arena! Amazing!

I want an Arena guild similar to oblivion. It could work plenty of different ways but my idea was a PVE encounter (think brawlers guild from wow) that unlocks as you level up. lvl 10-19 1 encounter 20-29 second encounter opens etc...with "Heroic Mode" at max level to redo every fight that has been unlocked.

This arena would not only serve as PVE encounters but it would also be a site for 1v1/2v2/4v4 fights vs other players with an easy wargames type option for 2 groups to fight against each other.

The most time consuming part of creating this content would be the PVE encounters

I love dueling and I think its absolutely necessary for the longevity of the game.

That said, under no circumstances should it ever be allowed in Cyrodiil. That's the AvA zone and I don't want anything detracting from it. Training/practicing should take place in the PvE territories.

Also, for many people, dueling is an RP tool. If we can't fight next to an active volcano, its just not the same.

No, that's not the case at all. he just didn't provide any details as to why it was "annoying" and that was my way of sparking a debate with him. Also, you're saying the towns would be cluttered? I've never played a game where you can duel in town. Now the outside of towns cluttered with people? Yes, I have experienced that. But why would you care? If you don't want to duel, don't hang out outside of the towns.

That's exactly what I think.

Dueling doesn't affect him.

But the guy finds a way to get "affected" just cry about how dueling is bad.

And I like how he thinks that dueling is for kids. (???)

The idea def has potential, and for the dislikers a toggle in options, tick the box saying 'automaticly decline duel invites' same as you have in other games for automaticly decline group and guild invites, so its not like it hasn't been done before.

Would be great for friends to help eachother test builds etc, imagine the potential use in guilds etc.

Yeah I think it would be nice to have the option at least, with toggle.

Me, as a pve player, I was always annoyed by these 'duel-kiddies'... I think it started in WoW, hrhr... Whatever, I was quite relieved, when later mmos gave an option to just ignore duel-requests automatically, so your points are okay for me, why not implement it for people, who like it? ;)
