Duel swords should be stored on the back, Bethesda

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:29 pm

Currently your one-handed sword is displayed on your left hip. When you equip two swords, though, it still only displays the one sword on the hip. Shouldn't it display as two swords on the back? Even in the live-action commercial the sword was drawn from the back. What gives, Bethesda?

Daggers (both single and duel) should be stored on either hip.
Two-handed weapons should be stored on the back.
One-handed weapons (single) should be stored on the hip
One-handed weapons (duel) should be stored on the back
Staffs and bows should be stored on the back

And, yes, this is a minor issue but one that can easily be fixed in a future patch from Bethesda. I'm not asking it to be fixed in this week's patch over even any patches within this year. It's just something to think about.

Isn't the storage of swords on your back something that looks 'cool' but really isn't as feasible as a scabbards affixed to the belt?

Nothing should be stored on the back except abnormally large swords during a march. Staffs should always be held.

The whole stuff sticking to the back trope makes me want to swear at kittens.

I wish it was this way as well. I don't get why the swords don't show up on both hips. I'm pretty sure I've seen it happen at one point during my playing, but haven't seen it in a while. There is a trick to get them both showing I think. I remember reading about it on here but never tried it.

This actually kind of annoyed me when i noticed it. The fact that one of your weapons disappears if you're dual-wielding when you sheath it, and then re-appears when you draw it made it feel like they didn't put enough thought and effort into this game afterall. And then, to top it all off, i decided to use a staff and realised when you sheath it that disappears completely aswell.... Really?

I know for a fact that it was a viable option to have your weapons stored on your back. This was not something that was that usual however and was never made with small weapons like shortswords or daggers, and i got to agree with the creator of this post that i don't think that you saw a lot of people running around with one one-handed sword on their back. But sure, two one-hands? I won't say that i KNOW that there where people out there who stored their swords on their back, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't that unusual in merc companies and armies that had to move quickly. having two swords banging at your hips while running could be quite annoying ;)

So having considered the historical variability i want to say that it would look epic ;) yes i said epic and it would be a lot better then having one sword on your hip while the other one magically teleports to a random plane of oblivion until you're once again ready to pull it out.

I don't much mind how it would have been implemented, but BOTH weapons should be visible when sheathed if you're dual-wielding. The current method makes dual-wielding look like an unfinished mod rather than an intrinsic developer feature.

Even in first-person, the right arm is shown drawing its weapon, but the left arm doesn't even reach for one yet a weapon appears. If the left arm can magically summon weapons, then why can't the right? If they were going to do this, then why even have a weapon sheath at all?

Either there or one on each side, getting sick of seeing my character's randomly appearing weapon in his left hand for dual wield.

I agree with everything else for sure.

It's funny, it is pretty much the same animation used from Mod's in Oblivion to where the off hand(shield but remapped to a dagger/sword/etc) would disappear when sheathed.

Hm. Doubt this would ever be included in a patch or DLC. I am looking forward to a mod that solves the problem though. It's pretty damn annoying.

It's funny that a lack of animation is exactly like a lack of animation? You and I have different opinions on comedy.

The storage of anything on the back, including sword and shield, is entirely impractical except for traveling.

If anything, I'd like to see a mod that removes back storage entirely.
