Duel Wielding Shields?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:27 am

This does not sound like something I am desperately looking forward to. I assume taking down dragons while hiding behind a single shield and wielding a sword or axe that may actually hurt them will be hard enough.

As people said, it would be pointless not to include it, as physically speaking, it is possible to pick up two shields. Now, I hope they've balanced it properly so that it will be as useless as it would be in real life.

But hey, I think we should be able to dual wield bows. No, really. You just shouldn't be able to knock arrows if you do. You should also be able to dual wield torches, lanterns, lockpicks, forks, w/e.

everytime some says it would look stupid, i cant help but think of giving the shields a razor sharp edge that could be capable of slicing opponents.

I want to dual wield my fists. The game would be so much better.

This a thousand times. Judging by some of the posts on this forum, some TES fans are actively opposed to any Form of hans to hand progression, and don't want it to be a viable skill, or even a perk or two. If any one wants to dual wield shields, claymores or crossbows, that's fine by me, just let me beat up a bandit with my bare hannds.

Why do so many people seem to thing that it would never have merit?

You’re not going to be holding both shields in front of your chest. That's not how blocking works. The idea with blocking is that a person is trying to hit you and you move the shield to have it take the hit instead. Very few attacks are directed at your torso.
Unfortunately any realistic way to have blocking would involve moving the shield to block the attack from the area of the body that the attack was directed against; something you cannot do with one button at all successfully.

also everyone seems to have arbitrarily decided that it would not work with a certain shield size (shields can be anything from fist sized... to something that reached head to knees)

The way I always visualized two-shields working was one in front (guarding torso) and one going over the head.

Yo dawg, I heard you like defence, so we put a shield on your shield so you can defend while defending.

Well, if you're 7ft tall and look like http://www.theslipperytruffle.com/log/valuev_2.jpg, then you should be able to do this, just imagine the fear in the faces of your enemies, when you smash their buddies' heads like ripe watermelons with friggin' shields!

Dual. As in "2". Not duel. Sorry for playing the spelling police but it bugs be to no end when people spell it "duel".

On topic, no, dual wielding shields is silly.

Duel Wielding Shields? whats your opinion on this possibility?

A bit defensive.
But imagine a PC with two shields who uses Dragon shouts offensively.

Sounds good. If all your offense is magical, being able to block attacks more effectively would be pretty awesome.

On the other hand, if you have a lot of strength, bashing people to death would also be pretty awesome.

Two shields and a boot toe knife. Now that'd be quite entertaining. Although I doubt they've added kicking in to hand to hand combat.

It would add to one of those things to do when you get bored, like tumbling a corpse of the 7000 steps of the Throat of the World  , nothing more.

It should totally be in the game, it might not be useful, but it should be there. :D

Yes. Why not?

I like the possibility that the new two-handed system will create a lot more options like this, even if some would be suboptimal at best, and silly at worst.

Haha "Breaking Immersion" seems to be a big topic on this forum now. So much so that people seem to just say it about anything they disagree with.

How would the ability to equip two shields break someone's immersion into the game? If anything, it seems like if you clicked on a second shield and it was like "Nope, you're not allowed to do that. It's impossible to hold two shields in real life.", that would be a little more 'immersion-breaking'.

That being said, I don't care.

Immersion should be a banned word on this forum.

There are some points in life where you just have to say "[censored] common sense", and punch people with shields.

I vote yes.

ROFLMAO. Word, brotha.

I voted 'stupid, yet awesome'.

the real question should be.. can you snowboard on your shield? I mean it's Skyrim.. come on Bethesda make it so. Don't ruin my immersion

I doubt Bethesda will sit and make code just to forbid you to dual wield shields (because, since each hand is equipped individually, that's what it would probably take for dual wielding shields to not be possible)

From there on, I just can't see what people like in that thought. But more power to them. Weird use of the word hardcoe though..

I agree. I don't really care if other people feel the need to try to fight with two shields (why?) but if you want to, then why the hell not.
