Although we never saw a showdown between those two men in TES: Skyrim, many of you probably at one point wonder who is the better man...in battle!

Both men are undeniably great warriors, although most of you probably consider Ulfric Stormcloak the more vigorous and able-bodied contender. We all know Ulfric masters the art of the thu'um, which will probably gives him the edge over Balgruuf the Greater when choosing either side. Whether that factor suffices to defeat Balgruuf the Greater is an option I leave all of you to decide for yourselves.

Personally i consider Balgruuf of both men the person with more wit and common sense, in comparison to the more rebellious Ulfric Stormcloak. However if that suffices to defeat his foe in a dual to the death... is uncertain to me.

Also tested this in my game, i think balgruuf won but im not sure. i would try it again but im too lazy.

Ulfric was a former Legionnaire and veteran of the Great War. Not to mention with the Thu'um, Ulfric would definitely win in a fight against Balgruuf. It's common sense. The only reason for choosing Balgruuf is pro-Balgruuf bias or not liking Ulfric.

If Ulfric didn't have the Thu'um, then Balgruuf would win a in fair fight. Using the Thu'um, Ulfric has the slight edge with Unrelenting force & disarm shouts. I'd cheer on Balgruuf regardless.

They say Ulfric stormcloak killed balgruuf with his voice. Shouted him apart!

I prefer Balgruuf as a jarl and as a person, but in a straight fight Ulfric would win, he not only has the thu'um, but first-hand experience from the great war.

I'm a bit confused why this poll is so close. I'm no fan of Ulfric, literally, I have zero love for the guy, but how on earth can you think Balgruuf is a match for him?

I'm a bit surprised myself of the poll outcome. Obviously people have a higher opinion on Balgruuf. I was not aware of that.

No offence to Jarl Balgruuf who is a likable man and probably one of my favorite jarls.

But Ulfric has his thu'um and his skills in battle. Jarl Balgruuf wouldn't stand a chance. Even if Ulfric agreed not to use disarm or unrelenting force I still see this as being a one sided match between the two.
