[WIP] Duke Patrick?s Thanks for the Maim-ery

[WIP] Duke Patrick's Thanks for the Maim-eryi think checking the player's kill stats at very quick intervals should be a good indication of whether an npc dies due to the player killing him or not. i THINK this is how Picador's Vows and Covenant's death tracker works.

That is not the problem, I already have my own way to do the player killed REF detection using "isPCmurder" and some tricky slight of hand with hidden factions. I use this in my Fresh kills alert the NPC mod. The problem is in tracking REF of ALL the actors....No way in HECK am I going to track ALL the actors around the npc in a quest script!...(it is possible, but convoluted so I am just not going to do it that way)....I will be using the OBSE Cross Hair ref grabber. This is why it needs to be at close range....In this way I grab the ref of the actor as the player bares down on the target actor. With this data I then check who it's combat target is, then I can run the skill levels checks of the targets combat target, and all other condition checks....Then I run the calculations and award the bonus or penalties after the Cross hair ref is killed by the player....The condition checks all happens in a fraction of a second while the attack (weapon, arrow, kick what ever) is travailing to the soon to be dead actor.... came up with this trick with the OBSE Cross Hair Ref grabber last year and have been using it in my mods successfully already.
ahhh coool. excellent! :foodndrink:

thanks...

one thing I may try is to briefly extend the cross hair grabber to say 300 feet if the player is using an arrow or casting magic, this may be a simple way around the issue of needing to be 8 feet close. I will ask my good friend SkyCaptain about this as I know he had experimented with this as well...

I have two suggestions for names:
DK's Battle Coordination Appreciation (;p)
or
DK's Combat Ettiquette

I am also thinking, if you save a guard's life, for instance, maybe the guard shouldn't just give a simple "thank you." The guard might be inclined to reward you? Nothing extravagant, maybe 5 or 10 gold, but this could become a living for a starting out character?

Something I've been missing since I first saved a life in Cyrodiil.

Perhaps you can name it "Duke Patrick's: Attitude of Gratitude". It's accurate, appropriate, and catchy. ;)

Seriously, though, I have wished for this since 2007. I just never have the time to make it.

If their health is not low (needs to be less than half) and their confidence level is high (over 50) then
their disposition will go down toward the player for interfering.

or

If their level is higher than their combat target and their confidence level is high (over 50) then
their disposition will go down toward the player for interfering.

I can do this without adding too much complexity to the script.

Aggression should definitely be used as well. The more aggressive someone is the more likely it was that they started the fight and wouldn't want interference, like bandits for example.

thanks...

I'd like to know what he says, too. If it actually works smoothly to increase the grab distance, check it, and turn it back in the same frame or the one after, that could be very useful.

A suggestion not related to the mod's title: stop thread necromancy, especially for WIP/IDEA threads for mods by modders who aren't producing for Oblivion any more.

Just a thought.

I have no idea what you're talking about. If DP said he'd never mod Oblivion again, I missed it. I can't read the forums as much as I'd like. :)

If he really intends to never produce this mod & wants the thread closed, that is easy to do.

DP withdrew from the modding scene. He said that he was going to make a final merged version of his SCA mods as his last act, but then he took almost all his stuff offline and hasn't been heard from since.

Unless anyone knows better, I'd say this is dead.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound snotty. I've just noticed a number of 3-4 month old threads popping up suddenly and I was "wtf?" about it.

DP had a falling out with some other modder(s) and decided to stop creating for Oblivion 3 or 4 months ago. He's semi-active in the GECK forum, but that's it. If you check, you'll see all of his RELz threads are locked, and (I think) a bunch of his mods on Nexus are missing.

[edit] PS, I really like your Diverse Voices... I'm trying to promote it in another thread but your original RELz/WIPz thread has gone missing. Care to start another? :)

OK, I have put it on my "to do" list. Thanks for the kind words. :)

I think I was just ahead of my time. I've seen DP making & updating Oblivion mods since all this... perhaps my hope to see this one done is not in vain.
