Dumb down Bloodmoon

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 1:07 pm

I generally consider Morrowind and Bloodmoon to be seperate games; I make Morrowind characters and I make Bloodmoon characters, but for the latter I have to waste time levelling on Vvardenfell, and by the time I'm ready, my character is the grandmaster of Great House Hlaalu, knight of the Imperial Dragon and could hand Dagoth Ur his [censored]. And then I can get all this wolf armor and nordic silver weapons, when my character is wearing glass, the cuirass of the saviour's hide and has 5 daedric dai-katanas.
So is there a mod which makes bloodmoon including the main quest playable at a lower level, even if it means dropping the difficulty? Because let's face it, in the expansions, you're nerfed e.g riekling+bristleback = stop studying destruction and get one of your CE enchanted dai-katanas out.

I've not heard of one that makes it easier or harder (though I have a feeling that the latter is more likely to exist). But regarding the armor: a bit of a self-plug here, but if you want those wolf or nordic armors to have a greater meaning, check out my HELLUVA Balancing mod. It has an esp for JUST the vanilla armors and weapons (vanilla being MW+the expansions). This does a heavy rebalance on the weapons and armors, making the good stuff very heavy but very defensive. So now there is more reason to consider the lighter armors like wolf or nordic silver.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful...

Hmmm.... Some reason my mind is leaning towards the options menu, where there's a slider to make the difficulty -100 to +100 harder. I would think that's based on how much the numbers favor/dislike you during rolls, or perhaps it adds to your skills and stats (silently).

On reflection, the pc does have to take on a load of werewolves, grahls and an aspect of Hircine. I don't want save the imperial city from an army of stunted scamps, so to speak. So while Midgetalien's mod is what I had in mind, perhaps it would better to just go straight into the game with a stronger character and improved basic equipment. Much like how the pc never really has any use for chitin weapons or leather armour because he has already one-upped them. If I jack up the pc's skills and attributes immediately and modify the levelled lists so that higher end critters spawn at lower levels without the pure grinding beforehand. What level would you say is appropriate to start Bloodmoon and stay there until the glacier falls?

Well, a bear is a blood thirsty beast 1500 lbs heavier than average human, and 2 times faster for that, I'd imagine it'd take 5 Dai Katanas to take it down :P

However if you grind until you have 5 Dai Katanas and full glass armor to go to Bloodmoon you're doing it wrong man.

I was also thinking Skyrim. I expected this to be a self-aware WIP post about a mod that backports ideas from it to Morrowind.

If you haven't already, try the Economy Adjuster set of mods. It won't nerf the creatures (which on its own might just be a job for the difficulty slider), but it makes glass and daedric gear much harder to find, buy, or have someone enchant. It replaces a lot of the weapons/armor that daedra and such randomly spawn wearing with slightly nerfed and much less valuable stuff. I'm not sure how the stats of those compare to the Bloodmoon goods. Anyway, you can probably grind up to Bloodmoon level without ending up in a full suit of great armor this way. Of course lots of other mods (MCA in particular) can re-break the economy, especially while you're levelling in Vvardenfell.

A passive wildlife mod or some mods that add specific passive animals should help, because you'd still have tough fights but at least there would be fewer of them per distance you need to walk. Doesn't address plot-related creatures, though. I don't use any of these that don't also add tougher creatures to fight, so I can't recommend one.

If grinding first is putting you off Bloodmoon, it might be worth it to just use the console to either transform you into a typical level 20 (or whatever) character, or give yourself lots of gold and start the game by visiting trainers until you're broke again. It's an awkward solution but you'd do it all just once at the start, and it won't take as long as grinding.

I'd like to try it, if you're willing to upload it... :)

I tend to use a chargen mod that allows you to start out at a higher level, when I want to play a Bloodmoon character, if I don't want to "cheat" by bumping my stats up with the console. (It's not cheating if you are RPing a older, more experienced character! :toughninja:) http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8814 is a good mod for that, although a little overpowered for real play, unless you get rid of the extra items.

Does Tribunal suffer from this kind of arbitrary difficulty too?
