Dumbest thing to occupy yourself during the loading screens?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:32 am

Some of us who suffer the long loading screens (mainly console players), i was wondering what is some of the dumb stuff do you do while the game is loading. Yes, all of us do it, and i know most of us do.

Dumbest thing i do to occupy myself would be making dumb noises and hum stupid tunes. Why? i'm very unsure why, i usually don't even realize i'm doing it (and no, i don't have some mental issue).

How about you?

I usually read the text from the loading screens in a silly accent

Strange. I'm on a console, and I know the loading screens are longer than on PC's, but I've never really felt the gap. I just sit there and wait!

If there is a need I get a drink or maybe take a bathroom break, but I do that even during gameplay, so it's nothing special. I like sovern's idea though, might try that! :P

I usually stare at the loading bar, look away for about ten seconds and stare at it again, so it looks like it's loading faster.

I play on my Xbox 360 so the wait times aren't as miserable. I'm assuming you guys are playing the PC version. But the if they do get slow then I'll (ashamed to admit this) start singing along with the background music.

I play on the PC, and my load times are comparable to those on the 360 with about 120 mods installed and roughly 20Gb worth of asset data. Even then, the only really long load times are on the initial game load and the initial exterior worldspace load. And those only take about 20 to 30 seconds. With 120 mods, some of which are HUGE. At this point, I would say on average, my load times are about ten to twelve seconds.

Completely vanilla, the load times are only a couple seconds. Ten seconds at most.

If you have a good PC, it will MURDER the 360 in terms of performance and load breaks.

From the opening post: "long loading screens (mainly console players)."

Just for kicks I timed my opening loading screen three times: 3 to 4 seconds long. I'm on PC.

What the heck are you guys talking about? I'm on 360, and my loading screens on average are about five seconds. Course, it is installed to the hard drive.

You can expect double to triple that time if you keep all the game files on the disc. Since some people out there might not have a hard drive for their 360 thanks to the Arcade version, this does matter.

I mainly just sit there (because mine are not very long), but sometimes if it is a long one, I will look at the image in the background and make weird remarks about it. i.e. "Oh that Goblin is acting strangely today!"

I usually change the channel. I have internet on my TV, so I'll often come here to browse the forums. Or I'll look up something on UESP. Or I'll do something else I can't mention here without getting another forum warning. :verymad:

Actually, Oblivion's loads aren't really that bad compared to some other games. But I'm on PS3 with no mods or extra stuff running the background. :P Perhaps this is why.

Just a few seconds for a loading screen for me, on a PC.

So not much time to do anything. Sometimes I look at the screen for details like the location it is showing. I guess that's not the "dumbest thing", but it's what I do.

My laptop can't handle Oblivion, so I'm getting huge lags every now and then. My loading screens lasts from 10-30 seconds, and I just stare at the screen 'till it loads.

Well me, being an absolute idiot, I like to try to load my friend's list (I do play on Xbox) and see who is online. It could just be my old fart console but when the loading screens are up, the Xbox guide is laggy and wont load until the loading screen is finished. So I end up just sitting there.

When my computer was crap, I would take a drink and stretch, but now I only have like 3 seconds during the loading screen, so I crack my knuckles real quick and get back to it. If I just came from an area (say, go from one section of a dungeon to another and back), I won't even get a loading screen.

Yeah, same here. I don't remember the load times when I played on my inferior rig, but as others here have mentioned, my load screens are darned near instantaneous now. I'm glad I was talked out of going console, especially when I hit the 250+hour glitch, which was a snap to fix on PC.
