Dumbing down armour

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 3:58 am

A couple of ideas for making enchanting less powerful while still having many slots would be making smaller pieces of armor only able to have minor enchantments. The other way is to have armor being over clothing stop enchantments on clothing from working. (that goes with the idea of armor interfering with magic)

PS. They should make enchantments on clothing more powerful then on armor.

Oh my mistake :D
Can't really be too sure if they're wearing the same armor or not, but it looks a lot like it. You might be right.

I noticed that too. Did you notice that it looks like the same armor, yet one guy has a shirt on under it?
Could indicate that clothing under armor has returned.

I don't see what was "dumbed down" about the armor system from Morrowind to Oblivion. All they did was take away your ability to make small changes in the way your character looked by taking away the precious shoulder slots. I'm sure they will put them in Skyrim again because they took the extra slots out because they thought people would prefer not having to waste their time getting extra pieces of gear that gave little to no protection but instead it enraged everyone that can't stand change. So I'm sure they brought back the extra slots for all the people that complained about them like all the other changes they did to THE PRECIOUSSSSSS. Too many people think that Morrowind was such a golden game and that any deviation from that game is just unacceptable. People have to let go about their first game in the TES series they played. Move on with your life to the better games like Daggerfall and Oblivion and possibly Skyrim.

Hey armour and clothing customization is a fundamental aspect of any RPG the also removed the realistic layers system which was nothing less than dumbing down probably down to the new engine not being able to handle it.

:violin: Two armor slots, wow, they removed the thing that made TES what it is, making one pauldron spikey and one smooth. RUINED!!!!

The fact of the matter is I see so many people that love Morrowind so much sling around "Dumbed down" inappropriately. Dumbing down implies that it has become simpler. Armor didn't become simpler because there was less of it. I don't see how something that was pretty self-explanatory and required no thought can become "dumbed down"

They also merged gauntlets.

Regardless of if you care or not, it played a major role in my immersion, because your gearset could be all that more unique.

Personally, I hope Pauldrons are added (as left and right) again, and that gauntlets are again seperated.

Assuming most people didn't use the console or duplication glitch.

You could produce tons of gold in Morrowind without resorting to either one.

Alchemy and soultrapping produced more gold than all the mines in the empire. As well as selling items to enchanters; you could pay for an enchantment, then sell items to the enchanter and get back all the gold you gave them.

Yeah you can get some pretty cool combo's on mixing bracers/gloves. If they arnt seperated though maybe someone can just peel them apart in like 3ds and mod them back in game.

That would be nice. I usually ended up mixing armor parts. Royal guard pauldrons were nice, iirc.

::sigh:: I'm going to have to play again. I'm forgetting a lot of things from Morrowind.

Yeah same here? Customization is one of my favorite aspects of video games.

My issue still hasn't arrived so I don't no for sure, but I would like to see the armour become a mix of Daggerfall/Morrowind with some new stuff.
I,e separate gauntlets, pauldrons, bring back cloaks, and... -new stuff here- I have hope with the return of enchantment as a skill that they will bring back more pieces of armour/clothing.

Totally agree, some games i really dont even like playing if they have a set character, it just makes you feel so much more into the game with the more customizations available

Player: "Hello, I want to enchant my gloves, please."
Enchanter: "I'm afraid I can't do that."
Player: "Why not?"
Enchanter: "Because, nowadays all pieces in your armor are counted as one full armor."
Player: "No they aren't!"
Enchanter: "Yes they are."
Player: "Look, I take my gloves off."
*Takes hes full armor off*
Player: "What the hell is this?!"
Enchanter: "See, I told you."
Player: "Ok, I want to enchant my shield then."
Enchanter: "So you want to enchant your shield and sword."
Player: "What?!"
Enchanter: "They are nowadays counted as one."
Player: "Oh, bloody hell."

no that is fallout the games have always been just 1 slot for the body
also if you look on page 51 the guy getting hit by the sword has 2 different bracers

It's the same gauntlet, just that the right one is partially covered in blood.

on page 52 the guy in the lower left corner looks like he has only 1 bracer on

If you look closely you can see part of the left bracer.

I don't see how the dark elf and the one falling back have the same body armor, it's hard to tell. The neck area looks similar but I can't say if it's the same armor or a different one.

We'll have to agree to disagree then :)

And yes, that's a Dragur in the background, a fallen (see undead) nord warrior.

i would like to have morrowind system back but as along as they dont reduce it from oblivion i will be content. what i hope they put in is clothing under armor and robes and cloaks over armor. any enchanting problems can be eliminated by making reducing the level of enchantment you can put on each item.

i really would love to know if they put pierce, blunt, slash resistances in. that is something that needs to be in a TES game where you have constant use of medieval type weaponry.

People like you are ridiculous. Why do you always have to boil everything down to "lol they r morrowind fanaticz"? People here simply think that it was a cool system. Lots of people don't wear helmets so they can see their character's face, and the hands are in front of the body, so you can mostly see the pauldrons and the cuirass (assuming that the upper body is what the mind focuses on, which I believe is the case). What I'm trying to point out is that the pauldrons are actually in an important spot, and it was a neat idea to allow the players to customize them.

I'm more concerned about being able to see sheathed weapons, arrows, rings, and amulets on our character as in Oblivion and about cloaks from Daggerfall. I want cloaks back.

For all we know, the different-looking bracers are merely a single item and it's just the style of that particular armor set to look cobbled-together, like a gladiator's. :ninja:

That was already posted a few pages back.

Strictly speaking multiple means it's larger than one. Doesn't mean we get more than two. It just means we get two, minimum :P

Game devs/PR people are masters at avoiding answering such questions clearly XD

there is absolutely no armor (except for steel around the pauldrens) that isn't symmetrical in Oblivion
