Everytime i go into a dungeon i get lost or i end up wandering around trying to find the thing i'm supposed to kill but i never find it and i end up just giving up. Is there a way to cheat in Daggerfall so i can get out of the dungeons when i get lost in them?

putting a mark at the entrace to be able to recall there is the simplest way to get out (or back to known area) when you're lost.

If you want to find a quest item quickly in a dungeon, just use the [ or ] key to cycle through the possible locations in the dungeon.

It's best if you only use that as a last resort, though. Once you've been playing for a while and you have a decent amount of dungeon-crawling experience, you'll start to recognize distinct patterns in dungeon layout and be able to locate the quest location in that pattern. For example, have you ever seen that really big room with several walkways going around the outside of it, and at the bottom and in the middle is a big stone platform with a ramp/stairway leading up to it? The platform at the top of that ramp is a quest location, and you'll often find the quest item there. Another example is in the gray-rock caverns, you can keep going down and down until you get to a dead end with three enemies around a campfire. That's a quest location, and the item you're looking for is often there.

Each dungeon has six quest item locations. So do your best to find the item (or enemy) on your own, but if you exhaustively search the place and still haven't found what you're looking for, or if you just feel like getting it quickly, use the [ and ] keys to cycle through and find it.

Yea, let's not immediately point the newcomers to the cheats to complete the game ;)

Anyhow, you should become very familiar with using the dungeon map. You can see where you have and have not been, any secret doors you may have missed, etc. The idea is not to just run around the dungeon at random hoping to come across your target and then actually be able to find your way back out; be diligent and explore an area fully before moving on to the next area--you can usually notice you've hit a new area by the change in wall/floor textures.

And yes, go learn to cast Recall and lay an anchor at the entrance.

I find the map pretty darn confusing but luckily everytime i go looking for the thing i'm supposed to kill i always end up at the entrance in the dungeon i'm in now. I guess i have nothing to do but keep trying.

Edit: I tried that cheat with the [ or ] keys but it didn't work.

You need to have the 213 patch in order for those cheats to work.

not really my verson isnt 213 and it worked all you need to do is go to the Z.cfg file in your Daggerfall folder. At the bottom add the following line: cheatmode 1

If I remember correctly, Bethesda didn't add the cheat codes in until the 212 patch.

In any case, though, it's foolish to play the game without the latest patch. If you do, you run the risk of having all your save games corrupted at the drop of a hat.
