Dunmer and Argonian relations

Post » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:02 am

Reme, ber that most Dunmer were wiped out by the eruption. Not that many left.

Surely the eruption would only destroy Vvanderfell (If that). The distance from Red Mountain to Tear is about the same distance to Cheydinhal in Cyrodiil, and quite further than Winterhold in Skyrim.

EDIT: Also, only House Dres, and House Telvanni are supporters of Slavery (But has been ABOLISHED!) House Hlaalu, Redoran, and Indoril weren't involved in slavery to the extent the other two houses were.

I was just thinking this, the eruption would only destroy things on Vvardenfell and any lava that came down would get caught in the Foyada or turn to steam in the Inner Sea. This wouldn't affect the mainland too much. And then the Argonians would have to invade from the south and come through Dres and Hlaalu territory (the 2 strongest Great Houses). Redoran would also come down to keep out the invaders (prob. not Telvanni) and King Helseth would send troops to the southern border as well. IT DOESN"T MAKE SENSE!!!

Actually, Redoran were fighting the Nordic forces in Northwestern Morrowind, so they wouldn't be able to help. Hlaalu, Dres and Indoril... and I guess the Provincial forces (Imperial Legion too, as the Black Marsh soldiers would be invading Empire territory) would defend the southern borders. As for the eruption, its not just the lava, but rather the Volcanic Ash, which would be the problem. Still, the damage would be centered around Vvanderfell, and not the massive province as a whole. Also, Telvanni would probably be wiped out, as they have no outstanding holdings on the mainland.

The Telvanni Isles were most likely safe from the volcanic eruption

So since
Spoiler
Black Marsh invaded Morrowind and drove all the Dunmer out to Solsteim and Skyrim
, don't you think that the relationship between the two races is a bit... chilly?
I guess we can see numerous quests about bar fights and such between them, maybe most prominently in the Dunmer city.
Speculations and thoughts?

How is that a spoiler?
And yes, will be interesting

Remember the Volcanic ash? Think about a giant mushroom-esque Pompeii.

The Telvanni isles are the most northeastern isles in Tamriel, they're further away from Vvardenfell than the mainland. You can't go there in Morrowind.

But surely the Dunmer would be used to the ash. They live on an active volcano!

If it didn't reach Solstheim then I seriously doubt it would have reached the Telvanni Isles since they're further away.

Its still not a major holding. Firewatch and Port Telvannis are outposts of Telvanni influence, yes, but aren't major centers like Sadrith Mora, or Tel Aruhn. House Telvanni would have very minimal influence.

i thought Port Telvannis was the capital of Telvanni. Like Blacklight and Redoran, Narsis and Hlaalu, Tear and Dres, and Almalexia and Indoril. Thought the Vvardenfell branches were only minor...

Unite Dunmer brothers and sisters! One day revenge will be ours!

What was the motive behind this assault on Morrowind?
Centuries of the dunmer invading and enslaving the argonians. It was the argonian's chance to strike back at the race that had been persecuting and enslaving them since the Chimer/dunmer knew about argonians.

If anything, the dunmer had it coming and the argonians were only too happy to carry it out.

But surely the Dunmer would be used to the ash. They live on an active volcano!
The ones in Vvardenfell did. If you remember Tribunal, when you unleash an ash storm on Mournhold, everyone is extremely surprised that there's an ash storm.

Anywho, the situation played out like this:
MoT fell, and triggered Red Mountain to blow its top. To gain some perspective of how large Red Mountain is, I calculated it to be roughly half the height and length of Olympus Mons on Mars in real life. Now, because Red Mountain blew its load, causing the Inner Sea to continue boiling for 40 years after the explosions and that Vivec is still covered in a few feet of ash, one can deduce this explosions was FREAKING HUGE! There were also likely tsunamis that would have hit the southern and eastern mainland hard, on top of a ton of ash. Now, while the dunmer of Vvardenfell may be used to ash storms, the amount of ash that probably bellowed may have been more than enormous and the mainlanders are not really exposed to ash storms. To further add, Indoril had been in steep decline since Tiber Septim took over Morrowind, Redoran likely lost most of their leaders and land from the eruption, nord raids, and the Oblivion Crisis. Also, the Telvanni are not all that powerful, as the Oblivion Crisis gave them lots of trouble, and even they began to give way.

With all of that hell combined, it was the perfect storm for the argonians, who kicked MD's forces REALLY hard during the crisis to begin with, to storm Morrowind and have their revenge for 3000 years of persecution, enslavement, and invasion.

I will promptly situation permitting find the first Argonian I can get my hands on, and axe them. No questions asked, nothing, just paste them.

Probably wiped out by ensuing tsunamis.

The lore states that it is controlled by the Telvanni. It is from those isles they got their architecture. Port Telvannis is the main settlement there,
I don't believe it says anywhere that it's just an outpost, I always had the impression that it is their main home and that Sadrith Mora is only their main city in Vvardenfell. Anyhow,
of course they have less influence but I would not call them wiped out just yet.

What ever way you look at it, the middle and southern parts of Morrowind would have been spared from the worst of the disaster and would still be able to hold off against the Argonians (with the two strongest houses and the King's army and Ordinators, if they're still around).

In that case wouldn't Solstheim also be wiped out? They're pretty much the same size and Solstheim is even closer.

True. Red Mountain is a good ways from the sea; perhaps there were no tsunamis?

When was it not chilly, the dunmer raided the borders of Black Marsh for slaves for centuries, who they then use to uphold their economy. My ex-slave Argonian is looking forward to finally be repaying their hospitality in equal measure.

Sadrith Mora is the real capital of the Telvanni lands, Port Telvannis is just a town on the Isles. The biggest town, but all the political power of the Telvanni were in Vvanderfell.

I put out known and easily deduced facts of why Morrowind was ripe for the picking above, you guys should reread my post. Also, it's very likely the climate of Solstheim changed and became warmer.

Now, I haven't read the Infernal City (don't even know if it's released in Australia) but could someone tell me how they overcame both Hlaalu and Dres. Thanks.

I believe it was said that both the Argonians and the Telvanni did well in the fight against the Oblivion gates. The Redoran lost, but made quite the epic last stand at Ald-Ruhn. So possibly, the Argonians shared their knowledge on how to defeat the gates with each other through their tree-talk, while the Telvanni, being Telvanni, just kept to themselves ignored the mainland.

The Argonians only attacked because Morrowind was under turbulent times. They are opportunistic lizards. If it was a fair fight, the outcome would have been similar to the 3E390-something war with the two.

I play as an Altmer, so I have affinity for my Dunmer cousins.

You shouldn't. The Chimer (who are now the Dunmer) turned their backs on the Altmer and their ideals.
