Hi,

I want to start a new character, my first pure mage and I want it to be Dunmer. Now, I don't know much about the Dunmer, only what Ive seen in Skyrim and Im curious what kind of destruction school do most Dunmer mages use? Fire or Frost?

Frost attracts me more but I don't know how much it fits for a Dunmer to use frost spells.

I've never seen a Dumner Cryomancer, and I've met a lot of cryomancers.

They have a flame cloak and fire resistance. Fire magic suits them the most but you could still use all 3 destruction types.

There are no elemental restrictions on any Race. Use all the frost you want

But from a more roleplay aspect, fire does suit them better.
(and get the Ash spells from Solstheim to complete the picture.)

Dunmer use whatever they want. The stereotypical Dunmer mage would probably use flame spells, but there's no reason as to why a Dunmer couldn't use any other sort of magic.

The Dunmer have an entire noble house dedicated to wizardry, so it's pretty much a matter of preference.

Any half decent mage should be able to use fire, frost shock. etc.. there are no restrictions. but personally i think fire suit dunmer more. but its not weird for a dunmer to use frost at all.

I could see a dunmer vampire using frost magic since it is so closely associated with vamprism. As a vampire their dunmer blood would also make them suited to using fire magic as well even though vampires hate fire. If you just want frost though Nords would make more sense.

There are no real restrictions, only a sort of racial fluff affinity for fire magicks. I was going to do a Dunmer cryomancer once for the blueish grey skin but the Ancestral Wrath ability interferred with my purist sensibilities on that idea.

The best Dunmer wizards tend to be in House Telvanni and they largely fight among themselves. In fact, only Houses Redoran and Dres had much of a history fighting people who don't have fire resistance after the War of the First Council. So for them, fire spells would be less effective. The advantage fire spells do have for them is their own safety (especially with the abundance of creature spell reflection abilities in their own game). Some of them might have a tendency to overestimate other races' vulnerability to fire too. Like a player fresh from Morrowind/Oblivion attacking an Altmer.
