Dunmer Immigration in Skyrim

Post » Mon Sep 14, 2009 10:36 pm

So according to the lore, Vvardenfell will likely be a boiling crater during the time that Skyrim takes place. It would be pretty cool if TESV introduced the conflict of Dunmer immigration from Morrowind into Skyrim in the story/world of TESV.

Why go to Skyrim when you can just go to mainland Morrowind? I'm sure that there will be some sort of conflict between the Dunmer and Nords, but immigration? War over border boundaries is far more likely.

That would be awesome. Personally I'm itching for a return to Solstheim (which apparently is where a lot of the Dunmer ended up), so if this was included I would be ecstatic.

Read the last paragraph under History.

Of course, this is all assuming Skyrim takes place during or after the events in The Infernal City, and not before.

Because argonians reclaimed the mainland.

Well the city of Winterhold in Skyrim was suppose to be filling with many Dunmer after what happened to Vvardenfell according to some lore on Skyrim. The Dunmer will likely play a large part in the city atleast which may lead to some tensions between the newly setted dunmer and native Nords.

That sounds like a cool idea. Plus, it'd give them an excuse to bring back the Morrowind Dunmer voices.

I'm not expecting Skyrim to take place during/after the Infernal City, since the murals mention Oblivion and perhaps Akulakhan (sp?) which represents the events in Morrowind, but not the Infernal City.

I did hear about Nords attacking Dunmer in Morrowind as a rumour in Oblivion, so I wouldn't expect the Dunmer to immigrate into the lands of their aggressors, and even if they did, I doubt they'd be accepted very much.

Only if the game includes skinhead Nords to fight with the Dunmer.

That would be awesome. I personally hope for more politics in Skyrim, and seeing more Dunmer at certain places would also add variety so you don't always see only Nords everywhere. Well, it IS a Nord province, but giving a real excuse for some more Dunmer at a place or two with political things around would definitely spice up things.

Are you talking about skinheads that fight alongside Dunmers against the Skyrim government?

That would make me puke

Exactly. And you think that EVERY SINGLE surviving Dunmer will be able to stay here? Even with the major number loses, they aren't all staying here. They WILL move. Skyrim is the most logical. The Empire is in chaos. No Cyrodiil. Black Marsh is just a stupid idea. Skyrim is the only remaining area nearby that's a fairly good idea.

I forsee an awesome new Nord/Dunmer alliance.

I hope so, and that is what I was thinking about even before Skyrim was announced.

Hopefully they will include at least a city under great Dunmer influence because of the events in Morrowind. I would enjoy seeing how the Nords react to it.

I'll be glad to come across as a dike with my Nord character telling them how much they are foreigners and [censored]. Slavery anyone?

I think Skyrim is like a treasure trove of lots of good things and opportunities for some nostalgia is one of them. The Dunmer migration brings not just Dunmer from Morrowind, but the culture of the Dunmer of Vvardenfell. Some Volethi influenced architecture, some burial tombs or little things like the lamps and that soft blue, yellow or red glow they gave off or some craft works [goblets and glass] or Dwenmer objects saved from the destruction... and of course Alcohol.

But that is just the beginning. As Skyrim is practically surrounded by the landmasses of Daggerfall, Oblivion and Morrowind, I'd expect similar effects on the southern and western borders of Skyrim respectively. Of course I think that all of this is the icing on the cake of the purely Skyrim-esque aspects of ES:V Skyrim.

I'm loving all the ideas tossed around in this thread. This will make playing my favorite race, Dunmer, all the more interesting and give a better role-playing feel. For my part I'm hoping for a Nord-Dunmer alliance, though it is Dunmer nature to be distrustful and hesitant to agree to such a thing. Could set up an interesting opportunity for some political (and maybe literal) backstabbing :D

It's going to be interesting to see how the demographics are. The beast races are probably the smallest groups, Nords will obviously be the largest... I'm guessing the rest will be around equal.

Instead of an alliance between the nords and the dunmer, I see the dunmer being ungratefull guests and garnering the ire of most of skyrim.

I hope there will be another book on the account of queen Beneziah in her days living with the Nord family.

That would be cool.
