[Relz] Dunmer Lanterns Replacer

Dunmer Lanterns Replacer
by Melchior Dahrk

The lanterns in Morrowind are one of my favorite aesthetic aspects of this great game. I tried smoothing out the dunmer paper lanterns by simply subdividing it, but I soon realized that the mesh was a complete mess. So I decided to just remake the thing from scratch with some small improvements here and there focused on giving it more mesh detail and smoothing it out a bit. So, after a short while I had a little replacer on my hand. I have lots of little improvements on my game like this sitting around which I've never gotten around to uploading, so I figured I'd share the most recent addition to my stock.

Enjoy!

Paper Lanterns Replacer
==========================
by Melchior Dahrk

This mod will replace the 3 dunmer paper lanterns and 3 #4 Dunmer lanterns from the original game with smoother, more detailed versions (yet not with a ridiculous amount of new polies). The other lanterns may be made if there's enough interest from you users and from myself as well.

To install, simply copy the meshes folder into your data files and overwrite any existing meshes.

Please ask before incorporating this into any mod or before redistributing this on a different hosting site. I'll most likely be fine with it, but I'd like to be asked on this one.

Happy to share this with you. I've been considering uploading a few other things. I had thought about making a compilation of some of my tweaks in the same way that Adul and Anteres have done with their mods. But now that PES isn't accepting mods I've been trying to decide what host would be best to use. GHF Downloads is great but for some reason it feels off posting multiple mods under one heading there; but that might just be because I'm not accustomed to the format.

But I'll certainly look more closely at sharing some of my small tweaks :D

I'd love to have that Elaura, it'd be much easier for me to keep track of all my mods. I'd then create mirrors for all of my old PES mods on GHF as well.

GHF Downloads allows public comments correct? Is Fliggerty planning on incorporating any sort of ranking or rating system?

Excellent! I'll get that ball rolling.

The actual Download page in GHF D/L will have a link to a forum release thread where people will be able to comment and provide feedback. The forum thread, in turn, has a link back to the download page. Therefore, just like PES, although membership is not required for download (unless requested), it is required to leave a comment.

I do not know if Fligg has any plans for a ratings system for GHF D/L. I do know that it is up for discussion once his family settles back in and the MMH uploads from PES and ElricM are done. Most recent uploads are viewable and linkable, http://download.fliggerty.com/home, although currently there is a little glitch that puts anything the Senior Curator (me) personally edits back at the top of that list. That will soon be fixed and the list will be accurate.

Exactly what I was going for. What's the point in completely remaking the mesh if I leave it simply higher poly ;)
Nice work!
Thanks Haplo :D

Thanks Elaura, I look forward to migrating over to GHF Downloads! Is that forum thread automatically made? Like on Nexus? I never even checked, heheh. I haven't been on GHF in a while, but I did notice that Flig and Schmig had a new little girl!! I'll have to offer my congratulations to them soon; being a 'new' dad to another little Dahrk myself, I can relate to what they're going through :D

Yes, it should automatically generate a release thread. There is also a box you can post a mirror link as well as an existing release thread.

I've thought about it. I enjoyed remaking this one from scratch so I may do something similar with the others; just to make it a complete replacer ;)

Thanks Rattfink. Those are Plangkye's textures - thought there could be some of Connary's here and there since I use his as a base.

Nice little mod you've got there - I'll definitely install it, as it keeps nicely in touch with the feel of the vanilla game whilst still removing some of the more aesthetically displeasing aspects, if that makes sense.

I understand completely and that's certainly the look I was going for - with some enhancements of course.

I'm glad you like it ;)
