Dunmer vs Nords Civil War In Skyrim

Post » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:52 am

As you probably know, it has been confirmed that there is a civil war going on in Skyrim. What we don't know, however, is which two factions are involved. But if you go http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1372/skyrimmap.jpg and http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/2858/skyrimmap.png, you can see that there are labels under the cities/regions Whiterun and Windhelm. Under Windhelm, it seems to say"Jael R___" and "Divine Birth", and above Whiterun it seems to say "Jarkes Clan" and "Supreme Ruler". We already have predicted that the main character starts in Riften, and we know that the Argonians from Black Marsh have invaded Morrowind and as a result the Dunmer are on the move. So could it be, with Windhelm being the nearest large Skyrim city to Morrowind, that the Dunmer "migrated" or took refuge there and the Nords are conflicting with their ways. Is the civil war a Dark Elf- Nord war?

I'm pretty sure it's just Nords vs Nords.

Also, sweet poll options.

I hope its Imperial loyalists against Nord rebels. I doubt it will be Dunmer against Nords as the Dunmer didn't migrate solely to Skyrim so its unlikely that they would have sufficient numbers to fight all the Nords.

That's kind of what i'm thinking too but Nords-Dark Elves is a possibility. Sweet sig by the way..

There's another map floating around with "Empire" under Solitude and "Rebels" under Windhelm. Even before TES:V, Windhelm was considered the city with the most Dunmeri influence. Food for thought.

Okay, scratch that... Winterhold was the Dunmeri influenced city, not Windhelm. D'oh.

Nords vs Dunmer isn't a civil war. :whisper:

A civil war is a war between two groups from the same country or province, race doesn't really matter, as long as they're all Skyrimmites. Skyrimians. Skyrimmers. What the hell do we call a citizen of Skyrim?

Well, when the teaser referred to the sons of Skyrim spilling their own blood, I'm 98% certain that it's a reference to a civil war between Nords. That doesn't mean that there wouldn't possibly be mercenaries (some could happen to be Dunmer) fighting for either side, but I seriously doubt it would be Dunmer against Nord. The Dunmer need to work on rebuilding their population rather than destroying it, I think.

"When the sons of Skyrim spill their own blood." That sounds like it refers to the Nords to me.

Sons of Skyrim (Nords) spill their own blood. Nords spilling the blood of Nords.

I believe the context of the civil war has already been determined as well. It will be between pro-empire Nords and pro-independence Nords. Dunmer really don't have a place in all that.

Back during Oblivion, though, some Nords invaded the northwest corner of Morrowind. 200 years and a volcanic cataclysm later, though, and that small conflict is all but forgotten, especially because it pales in comparison to the much more important Oblivion crisis that happened around that same time.

Possibly there'll be conflicts between Nords and Dunmer, but a civil war assumes two warring factions of the same race/nation.

I'm pretty sure it's among Nords. If you look at the Skyrim map from the Art of Skyrim video by the way, you can see the word "EMPIRE" in red under one city and "REBELS" under another. Pretty sure it's primarily a Nord affair - we don't even know if the Dunmer city consummates one of the five major towns in the game or if it's a smaller settlement.

I think it is a pro-empire vs a anti-empire type of war. Since all the races live there I don't think we can a "race war". Since it is the homeland of the Nords however, I think they will be the majority of each side...
... If that made any sense

Forgot to add: The Dunmer are already back in Morrowind. During the eruption of Red Mountain, many fled to Solstheim, which has always been in an ownership dispute between Skyrim and Morrowind, but the Dunmer never actually invaded Skyrim itself. And it's been 160 years since Red Mountain blew. The land should have since recovered, and the Dunmer could go back at that time. They just need to rebuild their cities and infrastructure. Solstheim, however, is probably much more Morrowind now than Skyrim, attributed to the extended stay of the Dunmer.

You do realize that a civil war is a war within only one faction right?

It's a civil war between the holds that want to separate from the Empire and the holds that want to remain with the empire.

So it won't be race vs race, it's more of a political war. I mean the less traditional holds could have high ranking nobles that are Argonians for all we know, and the more traditional ones would be most definitely all Nords, maybe with a pissed off female Dunmer advisor.

As awesome as that would be, I think it will be Nords v Nords.
Hope that I'm wrong...

I'm pretty sure it's just Nords vs Nords.

To add, the dunmer are barely a unified group as is. Morrowind got wrecked like no other, and the dunmer were driven to Cyrodiil, Skyrim, and Solstheim. They're refugees, who have been beaten, battered, and humiliated, and are now living in the good graces of their ancient enemy, the nords. They're in no position to start a war, or they are doomed as a race.

its a civil war, so its nord vs nord.

and where did you get the idea that the dunmer would abandon morrowind just to fight the nords?

no, just no.

Also, not sure if you have been reading the forums lately, but its pretty widely known that its nords that want to be independant vs those that want to reform the empire
