Dunmer in the civil war

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 9:58 am

Which side do you think a dunmer would take in the civil war?
I know that some dunmer live in the Gray quarter in windhelm, but I can't imagine them agreeing with the racist nords and ulfric stormcloaks ways.
But I also can't imagine them joining the empire as I can't see them agreeing with the thalmor and the empire and fighting with them.

Which side would you take if your were a dunmer?

Well the Dunmer will either not care, or Join the Empire, plenty of them have joined the Empire in the past, I mean for example, there was Symmachus who was Tiber Septim's right-hand man during his Conquest of Tamriel.

My last Dark Elf was Nerevarine, he joined the legion.

As far as I know the Dunmer despise the empire. Morrowind's Morrowind was ripe with political tension.

Skyrim Dunmer love the Empire. They [censored] hate the Stormcloaks due to being discriminated against.

I've seen a few dunmer in game that actually get along with certain nords, but then again they despise alot of them.
I was thinking about ignoring it like a dunmer probably would do but I want to play the civil war quests, also don't really want to build another character

From a moral standpoint Empire. They don't like being with the Thalmor anymore then Ulfric. But Dunmer really don't care to trust anyone. They would just be neutral. They have their own thing going on with Argonian's.

From what I've seen the majority of Dunmer are content to sit around doing nothing but complain about the Nords and Argonians. Otherwise I would say the majority are just trying to live their lives peacefully by tending to their shops or farm land. I did come across a Dunmer Farmer on his way to Solitude saying he was going to join up with the Legion. I also came across a Imperial farmer... or was he Breton? Who said he was on his way to Windhelm to join up with the Stormcloaks. But over all I would say the Dunmer want nothing to do with either the Empire or the Stormcloaks.

If you look in that Dunmer inn in Windhelm and go upstairs you actually find a legion armor
think they join the empire because theyre not treated right by the Nords, its what I would do as a Dunmer

The Empire for sure. They've been exorbitantly discriminated against by the Stormcloaks, and the Empire is welcoming towards them. Furthermore, the Empire is the Dunmers' only chance to eventually get Morrowind back from the Argonians.

The Nord citizens living in Windhlem didn't give the Dunmers the fancy houses they are living in when the Dunmers arrived.

They only gave the gray quarters to the Dunmers.

Dunmers thus hate the Nords in Windhelm as they think they should get the best houses, like back in Morrowind. The Nords shoud live in the slums instead.

They'll join the Empire. Perhaps when the empire won they can ask the empire to give them all of Windhelm.

When I eventually play Dunmer again, I'll be backing the Empire because they have common enemies.

The Stormcloaks have and never did anything racist to the Dunmer. The only time you really see racist behavior is a Drunk idiot being just that, a drunk idiot. And he isn't even a Storm cloak, just a villager who just happens to live in a city that supports the rebellion.

Don't get me wrong the Nords can be a fairly cold people *hah* and the treatment they give the Dark elves isn't the most welcoming. But I find it strange how the Dunmer of all people are trying to play the victim when they themselves treated the Nords nearly as bad as they did their slaves. And now that the Nords took them in and allowed them to live within their walls all the Dunmer seem to do lately is whine and complain. The exact opposite of what you need to do to gain a Nords respect and friendship. Its a hard land where you need to show your worth by actions. Not sit in a city and whine all day :P You don't see any of the Dunmer farmers or Soldiers being harassed.

Many of the Dunmer brought wealth to Windhelm, but was refused to buy proper houses solely due to their race and ancestry, and was herded into what came to be known as the Gray Quater.. I don't know about you, but that would piss me off big time if I was a Dunmer.

You have to consider that the Nords living in Windhelm already owned the nice spots. Why would a Nord up root another Nord for a people who have treated yours like trash since the first Era? Plus I find it slightly hard to believe that any Dunmer of wealth went to Skyrim and not one of the easier lived Provinces such as High Rock or Cryodill.

As far as I can see Windhelm is not such a big city. And the walled area(thus safe area) is limited and few. It's not like one can expand and build more houses inside the walls.

The Nords have lived there for generations and they all have their own houses, passed down by their ancestors. I don't see any reason they would want to give their houses to others without compensation.

The only vacant house in the city is the one for the player. And even then, the dragonborn(no matter what race he is, Nord or dunmer, same) has to lots of dangerous or difficult tasks and favors for different citizens in the city in order to gain THE RIGHT TO BUY that house. And then, he/she will still have to pay a decent sum of septims for it.

I doubt any of the dark elves there is willing to, or able to do all these things. Not to mention having enough money to buy it.

In medieval times, living in a walled city/castle is a prestige that not many people can enjoy. Most people can only live in unprotected farmlands or huts.
And yet, the Dunmers can live in the safe walls of Windhelm. I think the stormcloaks are already treating the dark elves greatly.

yeah considering the history between nords and dunmer its not much of a suprise but what does shock me is the treatment the nords are giving the argonians and khajitts how do some nords have such passionate issue with dunmer yet treat the argonians worse? and to a poster above after the argonians sack morrowind they left theres no occupation by anyone its been said in game that the air is still mostly ashy there and uninhabitable only the outer lands were unscathed by the valcano :intergalactic:

I think there should be a third option in the civil war. Just for the Dunmer to take :)
I love my dunmer and I'm also on the fence which side to take. Gotta wonder the lands for a little bit more to make a decision.

Well today I just met a dunmer who said he was joining the imperial legion because and I quote "a unified empire is better for us all" So I guess a dunmer would join the empire. Of course I'm sure it all has to do with what said dunmer's political views were, so I guess it varies from person to person.

Every race mistreats the Beast races, the Nords are hardly unique when it comes to this. The reason for keeping the Khajiit traders out of the city is fairly understandable seeing as the Khajiit deal heavily in Skooma and more often than not are addicted to it. They also deal alot in smuggling and peddling ill gotten goods. Its unfair but its the general image the Khajiit have portrayed to the other races. The Argonians being forced to live outside of Windhelm was actually a smart move on Ulfrics part. The only people the Dunmer hate more than the Nords are the Argonian's. The feeling is mutual between the two races and you can only imagine how much worse the Grey quarter would be if they lived side by side. All the murder and theft would probably destroy that section of the city.
