Dunmer voice change?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:22 pm

I finally realized what made morrowind so special. It's a combination of no fast travel a revealable map and the uniqueness between races (and the fog, oh the fog). The one that always stood out to me the most was the dark elves raspy growly voices. I know that oblivion was more popular by number and that people are probably used to the voices in that game but I think they should return the dunmer voice to what it was in morrowind. Not a hissy voice like in oblivion but a complete 180 to what it was before.

What do you think is this a smart idea? Will it hurt the game for people who only played oblivion? Or is it worth it to get some uniquness.

I am really hoping that they bring back the Dunmer voice from Morrowind, it was that voice alone that made them the best race, I couldnt bare to play one in Oblivion not with that sissy voice, heck the elves let alone the Dunmer were so fairy-dusted in Oblivion their hair even shined <_<

I didn't think any elf voice made sense, aside from the altmer. But even their voice could do with a change. Fortunately for everyone their statement about have lots of voice actors gives promise to having many different distinct voices. We shouldn't have the oblivion problem,

They said they're using more voice actors. Maybe they'll actually have a different voice actor for each race, instead of Oblivion's answer: Elves have the same voice, Nords and Orcs have the same voice, etc. Hopefully, they'll return to the voice actor used in Morrowind.

I think the voices in MW were better, However I would be OK with ANY kind of diversity between races. Dunmer should definitely sound more masculine... heck all the elves could use that. *dreams about the day when Bosmers aren't the whipping boy of TES*

I couldn't stand the Smokes-Ten-Packs-A-Day MW dunmer voice.

I couldn't stand the.... flamboyant generic elf voice in OB either.

Just something mildly gravelly will do.

Also... is a poll really necessary?

Yes please, their balls have to....re-drop?
But I don't want them to have that deep, smokers, gravely voice from Morrowind, I think they should meet somewhere in the middle, a deep, mildly gravely voice.

I couldn't stand the Smokes-Ten-Packs-A-Day MW dunmer voice.

I knew someone who smoked 4 packs a day (and sometimes a carton in 4 hours) for a long period of time and still had a relatively high-pitched voice. :P

Wait, wait, wait, wait.... People complained about how there was only one voice actor per race/gender combination and then say "Oh well it's okay if it sounds like Morrowind!" How about each Dunmer sounds unique? That would be cooler than Morrowind or Oblivion...

I think it was less "Smokes-Ten-Packs-A-Day and more "Breathes-Ash-For-700-Years". Made sense to me

I want an entirely different approach to the Dunmer.
New voice actors. Although a few Morrowind refugees should have the old Morrowind voices.

I hope their voices go back to the way there were in MW. Not the feminine whine they had in OB.

More of an idea than literally having one voice actor. Just that all the dark elves should sound like dark elves (regardless of who does the voice acting). The Dunmer in Oblivion were so...Altmer-ish. Any Dunmer living in Skyrim are likely from Morrowind rather than being expatriated from Cyrodiil so it makes sense from a lore perspective to have them sound more like Morrowind's Dunmer (without actually having just the one voice actor). The sissy Cyrodilic Dunmer wouldn't last long in Skryim anyway. :cookie:

I don't want them all to have the same voice, but I want them all to have the same accent so to speak

Great names for my Argonian characters.

Anyway, what made Dunmer so great was not only the voice, but also the attitude. Make them say things like n'wah again or fixing the voice is a job only half done.

I hope so, but if you want 3 different voices for each gender and race that's 60 actors just there (unless there's some doubling) - but let's hope they stay true to their word.

Edit: On topic, I voted to bring 'em back from Morrowind, or rather its style, but yeah, I'd like for some diversity as well.

I would like multiple voices per race, maybe not even restrained to that race - but only if the character sounded believable and not a carbon copy of evey other NPC in the game.

There is no reason why the Dunmer that was born in Skyrim would have the same voice of the Dunmer native to Morrowind. Skyrim-Dunmer have breathed naught but clean mountain air except when they sit around the bonfire, roasting their mammoth.

Well they lived in Cyrodiil, they aren't going to sound like those from Morrowind. It's just regional. Besides, look at the real world, you can't see the deepness of voice is characteristic of even a family, let alone a race. Not to mention that the Dunmer were just the Chimer that were cursed to look dark. They are closely associated with the other elves so it would stand that they would also sound similar. Now however, I do believe they could use a different attitude than Altmer. Altmer think they are high and mighty while the Dunmer are just rude and hate the other races and think they aren't worth licking dirt off their boot.
