Dunmer Voices

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 1:48 am

People voted Oblivion?

Seriously, I wouldn't mind the lack of the gravelly awesome Dunmer voices, if they weren't replaced with such awful high pitched "Happy Rainbow Elf" voices.

And you people can't use the stupid excuse of "living away from Vvardenfell makes your voice normal". If we're in Skyrim, there is a good chance Dunmer refugees from Vvardenfell will flock there. They're either fleeing to Black Marsh (heh, no chance), Cyrodiil (the empire is ruined), or Skyrim (the only place nearby doing well). I seriously doubt that all those Dunmer are going to fit on Solstheim, even if most of them are dead.

The Dunmeri should have their Morrowind voices back. They sounded really intimidating, and whenever they spoke you felt great respect for them.

EDIT: Oh, and they should also have their "Morrowind attitude" back (i.e. their gloominess, hotheadedness, xenophobia etc.). The Oblivion Dunmeri are simply too kind and gentle.

Could someone post a link to the voices? Then I'd be able to vote, or it will be Oblivion.

I enjoyed the voices they used in Morrowind as it was unique. In Oblivion every Altmer/Bosmer/Dunmer was voiced by the same actor (and sounded way too human for my tastes). Same with Nords/Orcs. I enjoyed the diversity of hearing different Mer with different voices. So if anything, please get more voiceactors in order to add diversity to the different races. :)

I would rather there was NO voice acting at all than have them continue the happy sunny rainbow elf voices of Oblivion. Oblivion took what I felt was the deepest, most strange, beautiful and dark culture every created in a video game - the Dunmer - and made them into cookie cutter lollipop idiots. I could never play as a Dunmer in Oblivion. I hope they don;t waste their time with big name voice actors, and instead find good quality and DIVERSE actors to fix the awfulness of Oblivion's voice acting. I would rather have text only than more of Oblivion. Morrowind Dunmer or nothing!

Morrowind's voices were better in my opinion, added to the mystery and made them stand out more as a race compared to Oblivion where they sounded the same.

Barney GumbleCraig Sechler is what happened. Though to be fair he DOES fit extremily well for Bosmer, as his voice combined with their facial design is the perfect formula for PUNCH IN THE FACE.

EDIT: Huh, Jeff Baker also did Haskill and RL-3, never figured them to be the Dark Elf dude.

Neither. Either more voice actors for all races or just cut the voice actors out.

I've always thought that the voice in Morrowind fit their face and by face I mean scowl.

Oblivion did originally have the Morrowind gravelly voices, in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq3xTsn-8sE&feature=related you can see the E3 presentation. Why did they revert to the crappy generic elf voice??

l love the Dunmer voices in Morrowind, MUCH more than those in Oblivion, but l was always under the impression that they sounded that way because of all the ash in Vvardenfell. But l suppose if Skyrim takes place shortly after the destruction of Morrowind, they would have the raspy chain-smoker voices, which would be okay with me.

i guess since the dunmer are now prim and proper in Cyrodiil? Now that i think about it, their gravely voices wouldnt have fit with all of the dunmer but since there were Cammona Tong Thugs, they should have had the original voices...

New ones. Morrowind's voices were to raspy, and Oblivion's were too generic.

I voted neither. I think Oblivion's is too high-pitched and I think Morrowind's is too raspy. I want Dunmer to have deep, but not raspy, voices.

I think most people will agree that giving entirely different races the same voice in Oblivion was a step backwards. Bethesda hired more voice actors in Fallout 3 - 36 versus 14 in Oblivion - so I think they already aknowledged the problem. Fun fact: the voice actor who did the Morrowind dunmer voiced the Shivering Isles's Haskill and a few characters in Fallout 3. Who knows, he might voice some dunmer in Skyrim.
