Orc stealth archer, around level 30, had joined Dark Brotherhood and

Wore light armor, a bow, and did alchemy.
Now that I'm forced to start over, I don't feel like playing a character that's alike, so I kind of need some ideas on a new character.
Thinking about making a Khajiit spellshield, wearing a robe, a spell and a shield in one hand. Will this be viable? A shield seems useless to a mage, because staggering an enemy does not matter. Weither they're blocking or not, a fireball does equal damage.
Furthermore, can you make your own staff? Dual wielding staves or a stave+sword seems pretty cool, but if I can only find them in caves it will get a bit bothersome.
Feel free to drop some ideas, as you may guess I like playing 'unique' characters, as long as they're viable.
