Chapter one
Arrival
___________
"Is this the place?" Jeff asked. "Sure is." I replied. We were standing in front of a huge building, according to locals, it was called the Dunwich Building. We were here to loot the place of ammo and supplies. We were a small merc group. My name is Leroy, I was the team's ammo boy. I was equipped with a 10mm pistol and a combat knife. The rest of the team were older than me, and I was new to the group. Their previous ammo boy was blown apart by a land mine. I was only twenty three, and this was my first mission with the team.
The medic was Greg. He had scraggly blonde hair, dark skin, and green eyes. He wasn't the nicest of people, but he did his job. He had a 10mm SMG and a .32 pistol. Then there was John. He was the team's close quarters guy. He was a ghoul that the team said had picked up from Underworld. If there were enemies too close for comfort, he was your guy. He had a combat shotgun and a kitchen knife. And last but not least, the team's sniper, Cheryl. She had long black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She normally had a .50 cal sniper rifle with a 9mm pistol.
And then there was me. I had fair skin, I was short, and I had medium lengthed dark brown hair. And that was our team. Most other merc groups had a name, but we didn't. We were just a group of mercenaries becoming friends over time. So here we were in front of the Dunwich building. John continued to the door. He opened it up and held the door open. "Well..? What the hell are you guys waiting for?" he said. We went over and went through the front door. John stood there for a moment and looked around to see if anyone was following them, then shut the door.
As the door slammed shut, the knob fell off. John picked up the knob and attempted to put it back in. It didn't work. He tried pushing the door open over and over, but it wouldn't budge. They were locked in. John grunted and kicked the door in anger. Then we took a look in the hall we were in. A long line of blood had been splashed across the wall. The entire hall was dimly lit and overflown with black shadows. It was hard to see. I pulled my satchel from my back and searched through the boxes of ammo. I found my flashlight, which I had found when I was younger. It was solar-powered, so it was still working.
I flipped the switch on it and put it in my front pocket. The flashlight was shaped like an upside down "L". The circle of light shone into the hall. "This should help." I said. We began walking. Greg was in front and had his SMG equipped and loaded. He wasn't paying attention to the ground and tripped over something. His gun slid across the floor and stopped at the wall. "Damn, that hurt.." he said as he turned onto his back. He tried to look at what he tripped over. He tripped over a group of skeletons and a box of ammo. He quickly jumped up. and grabbed his gun.
I squatted over and opened the ammo crate. I pulled open my satchel and poured in the ammo. I swung the satchel over to my back again, and got up. "Looks like someone was here before us." I said to the others. We began to go into into the first room to our left. Greg made his way to the Nuka-Cola machine and the food container, getting anything that would help us. John inspected the room for anything suspicious. I sat at the doorway watching out for anything. I looked at my pistol in boredom. Then I heard a faint scream at the end of the hall.
I stood up slowly and loaded my pistol. "Hey.. Hey, guys, did you hear that?" I asked. "No, what are you talking about?" Cheryl replied. I squinted down the hall, shining the light from the flashlight to where I heard the scream. "I thought I just heard a scream.." I told. I pointed my pistol towards the end of the hall. I heard distant footsteps slapping the tiled floor. They were swift and quick, and became louder and louder. Another scream, this time, very close. Too close. Then, the creature passed the light from my flashlight, and swung its arm towards me. I pulled my pistol's trigger in fear.
