Dunwich

Alright. Let's see how this goes.

Chapter one
Arrival
___________

"Is this the place?" Jeff asked. "Sure is." I replied. We were standing in front of a huge building, according to locals, it was called the Dunwich Building. We were here to loot the place of ammo and supplies. We were a small merc group. My name is Leroy, I was the team's ammo boy. I was equipped with a 10mm pistol and a combat knife. The rest of the team were older than me, and I was new to the group. Their previous ammo boy was blown apart by a land mine. I was only twenty three, and this was my first mission with the team.

The medic was Greg. He had scraggly blonde hair, dark skin, and green eyes. He wasn't the nicest of people, but he did his job. He had a 10mm SMG and a .32 pistol. Then there was John. He was the team's close quarters guy. He was a ghoul that the team said had picked up from Underworld. If there were enemies too close for comfort, he was your guy. He had a combat shotgun and a kitchen knife. And last but not least, the team's sniper, Cheryl. She had long black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. She normally had a .50 cal sniper rifle with a 9mm pistol.

And then there was me. I had fair skin, I was short, and I had medium lengthed dark brown hair. And that was our team. Most other merc groups had a name, but we didn't. We were just a group of mercenaries becoming friends over time. So here we were in front of the Dunwich building. John continued to the door. He opened it up and held the door open. "Well..? What the hell are you guys waiting for?" he said. We went over and went through the front door. John stood there for a moment and looked around to see if anyone was following them, then shut the door.

As the door slammed shut, the knob fell off. John picked up the knob and attempted to put it back in. It didn't work. He tried pushing the door open over and over, but it wouldn't budge. They were locked in. John grunted and kicked the door in anger. Then we took a look in the hall we were in. A long line of blood had been splashed across the wall. The entire hall was dimly lit and overflown with black shadows. It was hard to see. I pulled my satchel from my back and searched through the boxes of ammo. I found my flashlight, which I had found when I was younger. It was solar-powered, so it was still working.

I flipped the switch on it and put it in my front pocket. The flashlight was shaped like an upside down "L". The circle of light shone into the hall. "This should help." I said. We began walking. Greg was in front and had his SMG equipped and loaded. He wasn't paying attention to the ground and tripped over something. His gun slid across the floor and stopped at the wall. "Damn, that hurt.." he said as he turned onto his back. He tried to look at what he tripped over. He tripped over a group of skeletons and a box of ammo. He quickly jumped up. and grabbed his gun.

I squatted over and opened the ammo crate. I pulled open my satchel and poured in the ammo. I swung the satchel over to my back again, and got up. "Looks like someone was here before us." I said to the others. We began to go into into the first room to our left. Greg made his way to the Nuka-Cola machine and the food container, getting anything that would help us. John inspected the room for anything suspicious. I sat at the doorway watching out for anything. I looked at my pistol in boredom. Then I heard a faint scream at the end of the hall.

I stood up slowly and loaded my pistol. "Hey.. Hey, guys, did you hear that?" I asked. "No, what are you talking about?" Cheryl replied. I squinted down the hall, shining the light from the flashlight to where I heard the scream. "I thought I just heard a scream.." I told. I pointed my pistol towards the end of the hall. I heard distant footsteps slapping the tiled floor. They were swift and quick, and became louder and louder. Another scream, this time, very close. Too close. Then, the creature passed the light from my flashlight, and swung its arm towards me. I pulled my pistol's trigger in fear.

An ammo boy is the person of the group who carries the team's ammo, all of it. It's a pushover job, too. It's quite a bit of weight to carry, you aren't equipped with the best weapons, and you are a large target for the enemies because you supply all their ammo. Without ammo, a gun is useless. Without a gun, you're screwed. One more reply and I continue.

After pulling rapidly at my pistol's trigger, bullets pounded into the creature's head. But it hadn't dropped yet. It was still slashing away at me. My pistol fell out of my hand and it fell onto the floor. I fell down also, unarmed and prone. I felt its long nails dig into my skin again and again and I screamed in pain. Then I heard John's shotgun go off, followed by a splattering sound. Bits of brain and skull flung onto me as the creature fell onto the ground, the entire top half of its head gone.

Blood spewed out of its head continuously, and a large chunk of brain hung out of it. "Jesus Christ, Leroy. I turn my back for five minutes and already gettin' yourself into trouble!" John said as he held his hand out over me with a smile. I smiled back and grabbed his hand, then he helped me up. "You alright?" he asked. I nodded and crouched over to pick up my gun. I noticed the creature again, wallowing in its own blood.

"What the hell was that thing?" I asked. John sighed and shook his head. "That's what I'm going to be if radiation eats away at my brain and makes me lose my mind." he said. "You mean.. It's a..?" "Yes, it's a ghoul. A feral, to be specific." he replied. I frowned and holstered my pistol. "Hey, we done here?" John asked. Greg nodded and continued out the doorway. The team continued on down the hall as I followed.

Then came the fork in the road. There was a large opening in the wall, leading to more darkness, and to our right was a staircase. "Which way?" Cheryl asked. "That broken wall has got bad news written all over it." I said. "Well, we could check it out then take the stairs." Greg said. We all agreed, then Greg led us on through the hole. My flashlight only made light a few meters ahead, then it was all pitch black.

But as we moved on, a distant light appeared. There was a small office room at the end. But we had to get through the darkness first. As we moved through the piles of rubble, I noticed a glowing green light in the corner of the pitch black room we were in. "Hey, guys, check this out!" I said as I ignorantly pointed my light at it. "NO!" John yelled as he saw me point the light at it. The light uncovered another of the things that had attacked me.

Except this one was glowing green. It immediately stood up and let out one of its screams, then charged us. We all quickly backed up, letting out a hail of bullets onto it. It was bombarded by lead bullets but wouldn't go down. Greg fired off rapidly with his SMG at its head, then it finally went down. John walked to where it laid. I saw it breathing and attempting to get back up. John aimed at its head with one arm and pumped a shell into its head.

As he shot it, the head exploded and the green glop from its body flung onto John. He wiped it off and kicked the thing in the ribs. Then he turned to me and scowled. "What the hell were you thinking?!!" he yelled. "I don't know! How was I supposed to know what it was?!" I replied, yelling also. John silently cursed and turned to the small office. He walked into it. "Looks like this place was an office building before the war." Greg said to us.

Chapter Two
A warm welcome to Duwich
________________________

We had finished searching the room. We only found a few boxes of 10mm bullets and a syringe of Med-X. We got back into the hall and began up the stairs. To the immediate left at the top of the stairs was a room. The door was closed, but an engraving on a plaque placed on the door read: MAINTENENCE, RESTROOM. We decided it wouldn't be of use, so we began to walk past it. Before we completely passed the door, we heard low grunts from the maintenence room.

We quickly shuffled back to the stairs. We all crouched and got as silent as we possibly could. We began whispering. "We have to find out what's in there." Greg commanded. "What? Are you kidding? Are you trying to get us killed?" Cheryl replied. "Look, we can't just pass it, it might come back out and get us from behind. Let's go." Greg replied as he began to go forward, still crouching. Cheryl grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him back.

"Who the [censored] made you leader of the team? We're not going to do what you say just because you say so. If you think that-" Cheryl was interrupted by the noise of the maintenene door opening. We all saw it, and took action by getting down the stairs, hiding behind the wall but still near the top. John put his finger to his mouth as a sign to stay quiet, and he began slowly going up the stairs. Greg began to mouth the words, "What the hell are you doing?!" but John didn't notice or even care.

John reached the corner and peeked over the edge. The thing in the maintenence room was a feral ghoul, and it had its back turned to the stairs. John began to get behind it. I got to the top of the stairs and watched. John slid his knife from his vest and got closer to the ghoul, in silence. He was now right behind it. He slowly began to stand up. He brought his knife behind the ghoul's neck and then to the front of its neck. Then he pulled as hard as he could, and pulled it off from the side.

I could see blood spurt from the neck and onto the floor as the ghoul tried to let out a yell, but all the air escaped through the cut in the throat anc made more blood escape. John pressed his hand against the ghoul's mouth and dragged it back to the stairs. He took his hand off its mouth and brought his knife up. The ghoul gurgled out more blood before John repeatedly stabbed the ghoul in the heart region. It let out several grunts each stab. Blood splattered onto my face.

The ghoul stopped breathing, then John let go of it and watched it tumble down the stairs. I wiped the blood off my face. "Nice, John, you're going to have to teach me that one day." I said. We got up and got into the maintenence room. As we thought, there was nothing. We continued down the dark halls. The part we went through led to the right. There was only one door, the rest was blocked off. A quarter of the top of the door was ripped off. I looked through.

It was hard to see for a moment, but after a few moments things became clear. There was rubble everywhere and the ceiling lights hung from one cord. There were several windows. I imagined that we would be able to jump from them and get out, but we would break our legs or die from the fall. A few figures passed the windows. More ghouls. I thought it was only a few, but then I saw more. The entire room was infested with them.

Ghouls under the desks, in corners, crouched on the ground, everywhere. This building was definately a nesting ground for them. I quickly got down and away from the door before I could be spotted. "Guys, they're everywhere.." I whispered to the others. John pushed me out of the way to see for himself. He sat for a few moments then came back. "Yeah, there's no way we're getting past. The front door is locked and the rest of the place is blocked by the ghouls. Any ideas?" John said. "If they're blocking it, then I guess we'll just have to push them out the way." Cheryl said while reloading.

Dang, that last chapter ended with a glowing one...now we get a whole room full of ghouls. What is John's malfunction anyway? Is he crazy or just a show off? I mean...he is obviously the stealth character yet after he took out that feral sentry he "let the body tumble down the stairs". That sorta defeats the purpose of being quiet up to that point. It makes me think John is a classic horror char doing things the audience "wouldn't do". I think Cheryl and Greg stand a better chance of making it out alive. Of course I could be wrong...

When it tumbles down the stairs, it doesn't make noise. Just imagine it rolling down slowly. He's not really stealthy, just is when the time comes. John is the bad ass of the group,**SPOILER** but he dies later on. **SPOILER**

"Push them out of the way? Are you crazy?" I said. Greg came to see what all the commotion was. He looked through the broken door, but didn't realize just how many there were. "You call that everywhere? Watch this." Greg said as he ignorantly opened the door while reloading. He began walking into the room. He started firing off at random ghouls. "No! Get back here you [censored] idiot! You can't take them all!!!" Cheryl yelled. Greg turned back to us, still shooting.

"What do you mean? There's only a few." he said, smiling. He turned back in front of him, and stopped shooting. His smile faded to a frown. "Oh [censored]." All the ghouls in the entire room got up and charged. Greg tried shooting, but only a few bullets came out. His magazine was empty. He cursed while trying to change the clip, but he was out of clips. "Toss me ammo, Leroy!! NOW!!" he yelled. Butit was too late, and the ghouls were too close.

The first ghouls pounced him and ferocously ripped and scratched away at him. More and more ghouls approached. There were more than we had thought. There were now three green gowing ghouls, radiation exploding from the pores of their skin. We all tried shooting the ghouls off, but they didn't notice us or die. Greg's screams rung throughout the halls of the building. "We have to go help him now!" I yelled. I got up and ran through the door, shooting ghouls.

I unloaded my clip into them, but only killing a few. John then came in, and started shooting as well. The shells from his shotgun popped the heads of the ghouls, but we couldn't kill them all. Just then, we saw another ghoul come up the stairs in the large room. Except it wasn't a normal ghoul. It had bits of power armor around its shoulders and forearms, and it was surrounded by radiation. It appeared to be blind, but its senses were high in smell and hearing.

It let out a deafening scream, then ran towards Greg, who was still barely alive. It grabbed Greg by the legs and began dragging him off. The other ghouls knew to do the same. They got to his lower body and dragged him down the stairs. Me and John tried shooting the ghouls off. We followed the ghouls to try ad get Greg back. The ghouls pulled him into the new room, which was also wrecked with a large hole in the ceiling, leading back to the room we were in.

The ghouls kept dragging Greg fastly, and they began dragging him into a tiny hole, big enough to fit the ghouls if they crouched. They got in and began dragging Greg in. He held on to the outer part of the hole. We dropped our guns and grabbed his hands. We tried pulling him back out, but we couldn't. He was pulled down by the ghouls, into the darkness. We could hear his scream from the tunnel but we couldn't do anything. all that was left was his gun and his satchel.

Greg! NOOOO!!! OMG those ghouls got Greg...suddenly the Dunwich building isn't very high on my list of places to go vacationing.
.
I dunno. John just seems to underestimate the ghouls more than Leroy and Cheryl...who surely stand a better chance of making it out alive than he does...(I didn't read the spoiler, honestly I didn't ;) )

Well, John knows way more about the ghouls than the others and knows their heads are weak to shotgun shells. That's why he always aims for the head. Unlike Leroy, who had know idea what a feral was until the Dunwich Building. I'll tell you guys one more spoiler. Cheryl makes it out. I won't say anything about the rest, but that's it.

And for the guy who said it reminded you of The hills have Eyes, that's where I got it from. Good job on that, I guess.

Alot of spelling errors in this fanfic, I always type fast and forget to edit.

We stood there, shocked at what we just saw. John dropped onto his knees and pounded his fist into the ground. I got closer to the hole and crouched down. I couldn't see that far, but the tunnel ran deep underground. I could sill hear Greg's faint screams. I couldn't tell if they were screams of pain or screams of fear. I looked behind me and watched John pick up the satchel and hoist it over his shoulders. He tossed the SMG next to me. I picked it up.

He sat in the corner of the room with his head in his hands. John and Greg were good friends. I knew he felt really bad. Cheryl came running from the stairs. "Hey, what happened?" she asked. She saw the trail of blood leading into the dark tunnel, and Greg's things with us. She sighed and said, "I know you guys feel bad now, but if we don't move on, we'll all end up like Greg. We can't stay here and mope around." I stared at Greg's SMG. His bloody handprints were on the handle.

I stood up and got out a few clips from my bag. I kept them in my pockets, but I used one to reload the gun. I pulled back the bolt as I got to the door that led to the next room. "She's right. We need to get out of here. And it's not going to happen if we waste our time here worrying about Greg." I said. John stayed silent, but got up and came to the door. He kicked open the door. Me and Cheryl both followed into the room.

It was a bloody scene. Mutilated torsos, people's ribs ripped open to expose the heart, headless corpses and blood lay everywhere. Cheryl gagged, then ran to the previous room. I could hear her vomiting. I would've done the same if I weren't trying to survive right then. John just spit onto the floor and passed through. John opened the next door as well. As I walked through the doorway, a bursting light went into my eyes.

Up ahead in the room, a man in casual clothing stood. The entire room was clean and perfect. But when I blinked, it all went away. Where the man stood was another green glowing ghoul. The room was no longer clean and perfect. It was grimy and wrecked. The ghoul let out one of their infamous screams, then it ran at us. I went to reach for my gun, but John blew its head clean off. I sighed.

The room was especially dark. If it weren't for my light, it'd be impossible to see. The only things in the room were a desk, broken concrete, a light dangling from the ceiling, and the dead ghoul. I walked over to the desk and opened up the top drawer. The top shelf was a casing for a .44 magnum. It was in perfect shape, untouched since before the war. The case was pressurized and airlock, and nothing got in or out. I attempted to open it, but it was locked tight.

It wasn't a normal lock, it was a keypad lock. I tried pressing random numbers but nothing worked. A burnt folded piece of paper was on top of the glass. I took it out and unfolded it. It read,

If locked out of case due to wrong keypad entries, the combination is in the terminal.
Terminal is only accessed by code. Code is: 34FB-1-023G8.
If the terminal is broken, I have hidden a piece of paper with the keypad combination.
It is inside the building, but location is not adressed, but it is in the basemant.
Whoever finds it truly deserves the gun. It is a masterpiece of a gun, and could easily blow off your arm.
The paper is very well hidden, and it is unlikeley you will find it. God bless the USA, and nowhere else.

I closed the paper and put it back in the drawer. I didn't know the code, so I closed the drawer and attempted to get on the terminal. But I had only then noticed the terminal was exploded and blown out. If I wanted the gun, I'd have to find it in the basemant of the building.

I'm making it they find it in the basemant which is near the end, and on their way out they take the magnum. If we do the RP, Leroy will have the .44 as a weapon as a reference to this. I hope to see fans from here on the RP if it kicks off.
