Durnehviir Quest Problems

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:13 pm

This is from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Durnehviir_%28quest%29 page:

BUGS: "It is possible for you to learn the shout, but never be able to summon Durnehviir. This can happen if the game gives you all three words at once, and you leave for Tamriel without speaking to Durnehviir again before exiting the Soul Cairn."

My problem is the above bug happens every time :wallbash: I cannot complete the quests even using quest-stage cheat.

Note that I DO speak with Durnehvirr a 2nd time, after exiting from the Boneyard but cannot talk to him again, ever.

Also, unlike when the Greybeards teach you Shouts AND give you the power to use them, when you get Durnehvirr Shouts you do NOT the power to use the first one.

Even when I do get a Dragon Shout and can use it for the First Durnehvirr Shout, the objective "Learn the first word of Durnehviir's Shout" does NOT complete, therefore you cannot complete the "Summon Durnehviir in Tamriel" objective.

Has anyone gotten this quest-line to work?

If YES, how? I guess, how do you get Durnehvirr to teach you the first word of his shout AND give you the power to use it.

Completed it twice on the Xbox 360, very easy to complete if you can find the right spot to summon Durnehviiir. Of course on the Xbox 360 we have no mods causing bugs and no console commands to stuff things up. As far as I know you always get all three words of the summon shout at the same time, otherwise it would probably glitch. If you spoke to him the second time you should have all three words, just unlock them same as you would any other shout go back to Skyrim and summon him. Big dragons need solid ground to appear on and it has to be flat.

I have no idea what you meant when you said

You can only use the summon shout he gave you to complete the first objective, using some other shout is not going to do anything. Durnehviir teaches you the first word of Soul Tear when you summon him, and he will appear right in front of you so that is where you need to be looking when you summon him. Make sure to hold the button down long enough to get all three words out.

If you have never summoned Durnehviir, then it is no surprise you never progressed on the quest. Lots of people had trouble summoning him, but that is not a bug, that is just a fussy dragon problem.

Wait! HOW can you summon Dunehvirr WITHOUT having already learned (and activated) the first shout

I obviously missed something.

You were given all three words of the shout to summon him the second time you spoke to him in the Soul Cairn, he is waiting for you to use the shout and summon him like he asked you to. That was why he gave you that shout, so he could get out of the Soul Cairn for a while. He will reward you by teaching you a new word of Soul Tear each time you summon him.

I have no idea why you have not unlocked the three words of the shout he gave you. If you do not have enough souls, go kill some dragons.

I've activated all 3 words of Durnehvirr's summoning shout AND tried it several times. Nothing happens :wallbash:

And, yes, I'm out in the open with enough space for him to show. Even tried the area around the tower outside Winterun where the dragon attack hapens in the Main Quest.

Are you shouting at the sky? Coz if you are he won't come. You have to shout either straight ahead or towards the ground.

Ah :lightbulb: the Wiki has a comment that the summoning shout works like a Conjuration spell, and Conjuration spells have to be cast AT something.

Since I've just started a new-game, I'm have to try that when I can.
