Dutch cover story: Interesting Info #2

So it's a good thing right?

Not really/not necessarily.

I'd rather a geographic level scaling because that would make sense. I still don't like areas being locked to my level.

So you can pretty much break the game by visiting every dungeon at level 1.

I think it's a testament to how spoiled we've been by TES over the years that we can actually feel potential disappointment about having 130 dungeons in an area the size of Oblivion in an open-world RPG that lets us do anything we want in any order, as one of ten races, while specializing in 18 relatively (compared to most RPGs at least) deep skill types. LOL. I just thought I'd step back for some perspective, and that's what came into my mind. Just putting it out there.

Oblivion had over 200 dungeons.

Just checked it. You're right. :P

Well, that's even better then. Less dungeons means more unique dungeons.
And that also means less dungeons spread on the beautiful landscape. (And less dungeon icons on your compass. :D )

That's what I was thinking, though I imagine with creatures in the wild and other stuff going on, that you would probably level just a little by the time you visited every dungeon.

Nice, thanks for posting this! Im definitely not going to read that spoiler though hah.

Im worried about dungeons locking in level. You enter at 5 and it stays at 5? So they can be your level and lower... not higher normally?

Well I'm going to avoid that.

Although one little sentence explaining level scaling is not enough information to determine how level scaling works in the game. Is it applicable to every dungeon? How will it work exactly? Do some areas function differently? How will they function? Is there a chance level scaling is tweaked even more till release? Stuff like that.

It's very vague and ambiguous (just so you know).

Oblivion had over 200 dungeons.

Over 200 very boring and bland dungeons...

I'm sure all of Skyrim's dungeons are much more unique and interesting.

I'm kinda worried about the "no combining spell effects"-thing, I like combining spell effects when making spells and enchanting, it gives an extra dimension to magic.

And by the way, this is kinda off-topic but since this obviously never will be on-topic here goes:

Happy with all i am hearing. 20 hours of main quest is pretty long. and that's usually if you focus on the main quest. I don't think morro's or Blivi's was that long.

The description of that fireball spell is awesome, reminds me of this thread!

I'll just enter every dungeon at level 1 and play the rest of the game with one hand. :hubbahubba:

Will loot be scaled? I did raise an eyebrow or tilt my head to most of the things.

For you people who complain about Skyrim "only" being the same size as Cyrodiil...I say this:

In real size on the map, Skyrim is way smaller than Cyrodiil....so it will feel immensely bigger in this game!

"Skyrim is approximately as big as Oblivion."

Best news this week. I'm so happy. No more Smallowind or Smallout 3. :celebration:

Fallout 3 was only a tiny bit smaller than Oblivion. Oblivion was roughly 41 square kilometers. Fallout 3 was like 36-39 square kilometers. Not very much smaller :P

You don't play games in real size on the map. You play games as how they are... well.. the games obviously :)

If Skyrim is the same size as Oblivion it would most likely feel even smaller.

Because of that, we'll not be able to experience landscapes like this :(: http://www.cpawsbc.org/files/athead_Valley_from_Global_TV_helicopter_ride.jpg

Hmmm... spoiler is interesting. A little disappointed that I read it (but it would have worked it's ways into my ears (or more appropriately, my eyes, har, har har) eventually), but it falls into my "Please don't reveal anything we don't learn in the first hour or so of gameplay" rule.

Speaking of size...I hope there are lots of areas that have Oblivion-gate style entrances into an even larger domain.

Sounds like it, I dont see them allowing you to ender a dungeon at lvl 5, have the dungeon lock at lvl 5 then giving you a lvl 40 artifact.

not really. I remember reading somewhere that dungeons have a certain range of level. say thereMs a dungoen that's for lvl 21-36, well if you visit it a lvl 6, then it's gonna be locked at lvl 21. THAT's what it means! not that every dungeon will be locked at level 1 if you explore without leveling

"Low-Fantasy" (Meaning the game does not look as vibrant, vivid and weird as Morrowind did, more like Oblivion) -> "Oblivion was for sure not over-the-top in terms of its style, but Skyrim should be considered low fantasy even more than its predecessor. Much of the locations look realistic, and could easily exist in our own world."

This is upsetting.

Source? Fallout 3 was not that big. I'd estimate it was 25 square kilometers. (it felt like 20).

I don't think they got the terminology quite right with the low fantasy thing. High, low, classic, sword and sorcery, they all have an illusive quality to them, and most books or games don't neatly fit into those catagories. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Monsters will still be there, magic items, spells, all that. I think they're just trying to define the way Skyrim looks.
