Dutch reviewers about Skyrim (Gamescom)

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 1:27 am

Hi, first post so be kind :P

i dont know how good your dutch is but these gamecritics do a tour around Gamescom and the first part of the vid is about Skyrim.

http://www.gamekings.tv/videos/gamescom-2011-de-eerste-beursdag/

nothing new except you can (drumsounds) COOK!

(don't beat the sh%t out of me if this was already common knowledge)

some basic translation:

- it's sort of the same as crafting ore/mining
- it doesn't 'feel' like a minigame
- you actually use a frying pan
- apparently the person who was showcasing the game was cooking a butterfly (yeah your not the only one wtf'ing here)

If this is true, I'm happy. One of the things I was most concerned about with Skyrim are these new side features (mining, cooking, smithing etc.) feeling like tacked on mini games.

Yeah they already mentioned cooking in passing (that you could cook the Horker meat). Wonder why you would be cooking butterflies though...hopefully more because of alchemy than feeding :)

Interesting. "actually using a frying pan" could mean a lot of different things though.

He said "Kolibrie" that means http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummingbird, not butterfly. That would be "Vlinder" :P

Edit, okay, now they're saying he picked up an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odonata and cooked it later.

Yes! Frying pans! I'm so excited! Now we need a stew pot and a loaf pan and we'll be all set!

Excellent news, if this is true.

One of my biggest fears for Skyrim was Fable-esque mini-games for certain activities like jobs, crafting and cooking.

It may have sounded like gibberish to you, because they were speaking Dutch. There's a difference, you know.

Ah yeah sorry, no butterfly but a 'Odonata' thanks for the rectification.
maybe i rushed a bit and i now have to dissapoint because they also said that they didn't actually see it. but heard someone talking about it. If it was someone from Bethesda then off course it's 'not gonna feel like a mini-game' and it's raining rainbows and glittery sparks. because in their eyes the game is perfect.

Still interesting stuff though. I can see now why they did so much trouble with the 3D models of gathered meat and flesh.

Also i can imagine that the Odonata's in Skyrim are poisonous or something and when cooked with meat creates a poisonous meal... Dark Brotherhood anyone? because i do get the feeling we can mix stuff.

  • You can use a mining pick to get ore from rock.
  • You can melt the ore in forges to get bars.
  • You can make these bars into armor and weapons.
  • You are able to attach "spell badges" (as he called them) to weapons. Seems to have the same effect as enchanting.
  • You can catch fish, dragonflies and hummingbirds.
  • You can combine these as ingredients and make your own poisons.
