Duty Calls - available now!

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 9:52 am

"Commence high-budget inter-developer slapfight! Duty Calls is Epic Games’ riposte to the slew of military shooters on shop shelves: specifically Activision’s Call of Duty series. The eagle-eyed among you might’ve noticed that from the name.

Duty Calls tells the serious and profound story of Some Soldier Guy, who’s sent on A Serious Mission to kill A Bad Dude With An Eyepatch And A Dreadful Accent. Highlights include unlockable ranks (all the way to ‘Sergeant of the Master Sergeants Most Extreme Person of Extreme Sergeants to the Max!’), a wide range of pickups (two, ranging from a stick to 500 sheets of wide-ruled paper), and an incongruous slow-motion section. All bullet sounds are replaced by the word ‘boring’, and each enemy announces his presence by way of describing exactly what he’s doing at that moment. All in the name of building narrative, of course."

The game is hilarious although really short.

(The time between this post and my last post is the time it took me to download, install, and complete the game.)

My internet disconnects too often to download something that size but I would have loved to try it otherwise, it looks funny, even if it's incredibly short.

wow... that was a huge disappointment, it was 5 minutes of content at most (including the advertisemant at the end), so wasting my time downloading 760mb installer that only creates 500mb of data

I despise Cliffy B and his need to inject everything with so much testosterone based badd ass nonsense. For once, I hope Activision does something about this...and seriously inflicts damage to Mr.Blizinski and his companies ridiculous marketing practices.

If this is not created by People Can Fly, then never mind, and i retract my statement.

Didn't he make some tweet about PC gamers not getting a demo and them being grumpy?

EDIT: Found it on destructoid.

"BULLETSTORM DEMO COMING TO 360/PS3 JANUARY 25th. In other news, PC gamers are grumpy about this.”

Instead of making a PC demo, they release this.

Do they expect to make good sales on the PC?

Bulletstorm looks like a pretty good game, but this game doesn't want to make me buy it, and doesn't make me laugh at Call of Duty (still the best military shooter out).

Bullet storm isnt that great, it relies on a gimmick that wears of quick, people will forget soon. Also it not being serious, svcky timing with DNF.

BFBC2 would like a word with you.

Just finished it, took about 5 minutes :P

Funniest part was about the guy getting killed as part of the drama followed by a slow mo killing of the guy who killed the before mentioned drama maker.

I thought about buying Bulletstorm, until they mocked Halo 3, and now Call of Duty. Bulletstorm is just first person Gears of War, anyways.

The game is funny, but not really worth the download. I was just as amused watching a YouTube video of it as I was actually playing it.

Right, because in Gears of War you have a leash that can knock things into the air, the ability to kick people, funny dialog, and a system that awards points for creative kills. Are you really not going to buy it simply because Bulletstorm made some parodies of Halo 3 and Call of Duty?

It's funny that "The Comedian" was offended by the fact that the company did some parodies.

i think some of the guys really missed the essence of call of duty series, COD is about warfare and soldiers, mission based and the likes, MW2 is closest in our present armed warfare as dated today, so you care less about kicking and guns that do giants, but COD games are made and was based in warfare reality which actually happened WW2 and modern war these days. so its really inappropriate to mock COD, granted there's a laugh, but COD does stand out yet a little disappointing, but does not deserve to be mistaken like parodies like this one.
