DvO's Better Armor

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:24 am

I recall this project from a while back, even though I have more or less left the community, I would like to offer a hand at attempting to texture the models for you. I am sure I can spare a few hours every week to texture a model every now and then if you would like? I think my sig still links to my Photobucket account with junk I have done from old and crappy to newer and less crappy. XD

BTW the models look very nice and clean so should be nice and easy to work with. :)

Thanks for the continued enthusiasm, everyone. :) I'm going to start posting further updates and projects on this blog, http://daedricfoundry.wordpress.com , but will post a link here to each new post for a while so that everyone following this can find their way to the new HQ. Plangkye is ready for texturing, and I have several models cleaned up and ready, so you might see some cool updates soon. ;)

Definitely worth waiting for. Nice to see some detail as it should be. Detail in meshes always make an object more appealing.

I just hope that when you get to the Imperial armor, that the cuirass mesh looks like good muscle armor and that there's also a good female variant. :)

Thank you for this, The armor in-game does need some improving.
Can I make some suggestions?
For starters, The light-armor (and other types) boots in game need-some segmenting. Look at the Netch leather boots and Chitin. Using Better Bodies, it's very jarring to see your feet shrink whenever you wear those boots.
So, could you try and edit them to better fit the Better Bodies feet? Or at least make them longer? Either way, I can't wait to have this in my game :)

LOL, I wouldn't want the Legion dressed like Robin! For a more accurate inspirational model, take a look at http://www.theknightshop.co.uk/catalog/images/Royal%20Guard%20small.jpg and http://www.timelesstailors.com/acatalog/ah6071L.jpg... ;) And for Templar, definitelly http://www.wallpaperbase.com/wallpapers/movie/kingarthur/king_arthur_3.jpg!

Cheers,
PKR.

Nah, the http://mydisguises.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/batmanrobin_pics012.jpg would be better. @ Schumacher

Ooo, annoying film! "We've got a great defensive position behind the wall, what's our grand masterplan, boss? Stand on the wall and rain death on the Picts with our arrows? "Er... No, I thought we'd open the gates and let them in".

C'mon, I've seen worse: you're English, you must know your history is well-peppered with stories like this (although at Crecy and Azincourt you kicked some major a**!)... ;) That said, I slapped my head more than once in front of the idiotic happenings in that particular movie (and what a waste of an excellent cast!)...

Sorry for the OT - it's probably the disturbing thought of the Robin/Batman nippie-suits that's affecting our fragile, little minds... :)

Nah, the batsuit with the nipbles would be better. rolleyes.gif @ Schumacher

 D'oh, crap, I thought that was the one I linked to (notice Robin's suit does have nipbles). Oh well, you can tell I've never actually watched the movies... and for good reason. XD

Anyway, I should have another update by tonight... it's off to work I go!

Yep. I'll be doing all the Dwemer weapons and armor in one mod (I also made the battle axe a while back if you didn't notice). I don't know whether all the other sets will get the same treatment, but I would prefer it.

The great thing about the Dwemer weapons is that they're very geometrically simplistic, so it's pretty easy to wrap my head around modeling them in a short time.

I had seen it, but had apparently forgotten. *chuckle* They both look great - I love how you are moving the details of the original textures into the meshes.

Ok, a question for all of thee!

I took some liberties with the short sword to make it, in my opinion, more Dwemer-y. Specifically, it's a bit wider, sharper, and less chubby-looking than the original. But my 3D geek buddy differs in opinion on whether my design is appropriate for a short sword.

Do you think the original or my shape is better?

Technically you sword looks great. However my personal preference would favor a more narrow version closer to the original in that regard. I really like all the other models you have done. I wished I had your skills.

I sort of think that is the Dwemer shortsword Bethesda should have made. *chuckle* I like it, but I can see some people still wanting the more tapered blade. *looks again* No, I still prefer your blade - the channels are ridiculously squashed at the top of the original, almost as if the texture was intended for a wider mesh.

I see you go between a http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/71/Uncrossed_gladius.jpg and http://www.archeolab.com/cinquedea.jpg design. I'd recommend sticking closer to the Cinquedea (or five fingers, the width of the blade at the hilt), since it is a nicer weapon. The only 2 things I'd recommend for your model is to make the blade tapering more towards the tip for a more streamlined look (I don't like much triangular tips, reminds me of how I used to draw swords when I was 6yo) and to try making a less blocky pommel (square pommels are as impractical as they are ugly). Oh well, maybe you can disregard my last comment, it's a fantasy sword after all, and a square pommel is just as practical as that huge nut in the handle... :)

Wow, that "Cinquedea" looks almost like concept art for the Dwemer shortsword. Bizarre. It actually almost has the "nut" in the middle of the handle, and the pommel remind me of the Dwemer axe. *chuckle*

Yeah, Beth always had excellent concept artists and lazy 3D artists - it is a fact... ;)
