I'm a Dwarf and I'm swinging an axe, swingy swingy axe

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:10 am

We all(?) know Skyrim is a pretty damn good game, and the combat is one of the best things if not the best thing about it. I play it on master difficulty and I do find it enjoyable going up against 5 Seriously Angry Daurgr Death Overlord God King Guys with a couple of swords and somehow coming out alive 20 minutes later being depleted of everything and needing a vacation. But I also enjoy equipping a hefty 2H axe and going to town on some lowly skeletons and chopping through them like a hot knife through butter only for it to be over in a matter of seconds. I'm aware I can turn the difficulty down to give me the same pleasure against said Daurgr but that feels like cheating.

My point is that there's a hack-and-slash element to Skyrim but not enough baddies in one sitting for it to be enjoyable (except possibly some of the civil war quests), I'd like to go up against 30 skeletons that hit hard but die fast and if I don't stop swinging my axe I'm done for, but sadly I get only 6 or 7 at the most. Would anyone else find something like this enjoyable and/or implemented into the game? For a example a "wave-after-wave" sort of scenario? Or just a massive room filled with the blighters. Also doesn't have to be skeletons as some computers could find it hard having hundreds of pieces of bone flying everywhere but that helps get my meaning across. I know mages would have a field day with it they'll sit sit in a corner and blow everything up instantly, but that'll be fun right? :D

Hope I got my point across, I'm quite tired. :)

If you're on PC, just give it time. Modders are already planning stuff like that. If you're on console... well, you have my most sincere condolences.

I don't think Skyrim handles large mobs well. Fps became really skippy once when I was helping the Legion regain a fort from the Stormcloaks.

That was the only time, though.

Yeah that's what I meant by saying skeletons are a bad example but they would definitely be most fun to go up against.

I totally agree.

Essentially what I find in dungeons is that, as quite a 'tactical', stealthy mage, albeit with some brutal one-handed weapons (it's so much more powerful than my magic, but I prefer my destruction for RP purposes), my dungeons consist of me sneaking through, finding my enemies, choosing a tactically smart spot, figuring out a strategy and going for it. I've played TES for so long now that I very rarely I have to use anything for close combat.

I could, of course, because I could decide to wade in, but it doesn't fit in with my approach. It would be good however to have, in a similar manner to the (at times) seriously long running and firing exercises that are Dragon Priest + Deathlord endurance battles, to have a massive amount of easier kills. Low level draugr with some deathlords maybe. Loads of them!

Would be fun. Might slow down quite a lot though

enemys on screen, notice civial war enemys disappear real fast, is an issue, changing the difficulty is not cheap lol.
complaining that enemys take to many hits when you turned up the difficulty is ur own problem.

beth makes rpg games, they are not hard, sorry to ppl that find them hard but you must be very underexsperienced or just forget full.
you can save any time.
you cab pause any time.
potions are instant and you can spam loads.
enemys mostly scale.
gear can be upgraded well above that of the enemy.
you need to make challenge for your self. if that wasnt the case you could accomidate so many play styles in one games somthing beth excell at.
i actully sudjest getting over your feelings about challenge and compertition ect amd get down to what makes them enjoyable, for me and alot of my friends ive talked to about adjusting there play style, its the rp that make it, and turning the difficulty up just increases the time it takes to kill stuff and the amount of gear needs to be used up, try adjusting the difficulty as you go i do this to balence out the game, as i generaly only ever died randomly i desided, a few hacks or a head shot was better if it kills the enemy, so in fo i play ez diff so enemys die when u shoot there face, sk i play normal so softys die when i hack there face, when dragons attack i turn it up to master, other than that i restrick my self from go nuts with high level everything, chooice something you like abd go with that as your mainoutlet, you dont need deadric sword 200% enchanted and smithed thats just a waste, nothing in the games needs that [censored], you want to be an epic or enchanter try iron or cloth, youll still rip up my steel axe does 60 points of damage ive not even finished smithing it.
if i want a challenge i play rts of fps with real ppl, not one play rp games that are for relaxed enjoyment imo.

one of the first quests of the companions made something like this, like 4 waves of several daurghs. With the appropiate battle music it felt really epic. When I repeated it it wasn't epic once again, so yes I agree, this is something really fun worth adding.

Knock-knock that advice might have been helpful 3 weeks ago when Skyrim came out but its a bit late now. Thanks anyway.
