no dwarves?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:18 pm

idk if this question has come up yet or not, but ive been dying to know the answer since i started playing this wonderful game. why is there dwarven armor, but there are no dwarves in the game? and why isnt being a dwarf one of the choices you can make when choosing a race? i think it would be sweet to be a dwarf.

Firstly , They're are dwemers , Not dwarves.

They mystically disappeared at the siege of .. some red stuff.
Many thinks they committed mass suicide but nothing is confirmed.
From what i've heard we get to meet one dwemer in morrowind
but he doesn't tell you much.

Check out the lore forum.

It is somewhat explained in Morrowind which also features the last living dwarf.

Dwarves are elves and are also called dwemer.

They are elves, with beards. They were once nicknamed "dwarves", by the GIANTS who lived in the same areas as the dwemers.

Dwemer are elves, one of the races of elves. They were called dwarves becazse they were small in comparison to some giants.. I really can't remember where I read this. ^_^

No Dwarves, as it should be. Men and Mer and Beasts we have in TES, meaning we only have Elves, Men and Beasts. Elves aren't immortal and perfect, but arrogant and proud. Say bye bye to generic fanatasy-land, and hello to a-bit-less-generic-fantasy-land. While your in the Imperial Library, look around, some interesting stuff there.

You can get a mod to play as a dwarf, like I have. There are many, but my favorite is Lokgarr's, which you can get http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Dwarves;85625 :)

All disappeared one day. No one knows what happened.

There is one last living dwarf, has coprus, lives in Tel Fyr. (In Morrowind.)

The Dwemer all died off (save one fat, robotic-legged one) due to a failed attempt to become immortal.

You know what OP, I have no idea. Dwarves were mentioned since the first TES, but they never included it. All they said was they disappeared.

In fact, Morrowind is really the only one that showed a dwarf in all the games, but that's after they changed the dwarves from D&D to "being elves with an alien mindset."

If they're called "Dwemers", then why is the armor called "Dwarven"?

I think it might be because the developers thought Dwarven would be more acceptable to the general gaming population.

The OOO mod change Dwarven to Dwemer throughout.

The "mer" part of Dwemer gives you a hint that they are elves.

Somewhere in this game, I remember readig that Dwarven armor was really the metal bodies of Dwemer automatons that were modified to fit their wearers. Maybe someday Bethesda will have a TES called "Return of the Dwemer", where they come out of stasis to reclaim 'their' world. Sort of technology vs magic. Imagine armies of Dwemer robots vs the various peoples of Cyrodiil.

Rather some original context than the old generic "dwarf = short red bearded shouty angry man, with big axe/warhammer"

@OP- the armour and weapons are still around because they didnt disappear with the dwemer (same for all the ruins etc), they are artifacts that get discovered and put to use.

Dwemer craftmanship- made to last :P

Dwemer were a race of Elves, kinda like the Dark Elf and High elf are a race of elf today. But there was a mass extinction. Me? I think they were destroyed by the might of their own technology. Thier old ruined cities still dot Morrowind's landscape.

If they're called "Dwemers", then why is the armor called "Dwarven"?

Why is a Person from Japan called Japanese instead of Japanen? Or Japanish?

Its just something to make the name of the people/ material from their culture a bit more imaginative.
