Dwarves?

We don't really know what happened, just they vanished at the battle for red mountain. There is however a vast amount of speculation in various places.

I thought the Dwemer were all wiped out from one of the Daedric Princes. There's some info about it in one of the books in Morrowind.

Inderictly Azura, perhaps. Kagrenac destroyed them in the end, though. Or un-created them. Or teleported them to another dimension. Who knows? He tried to create a God for his people (Numidium, or Akhulakhan in Morrowind) using the Heart of the dead God Lorkhan, the mastermind behind the creation of the world. But a certain Chimer King and his friend entered his room before he had completed his preparations. So he used the Tools he had made to control the Hearts power before he was prepared and.. Poof! Bye, Bye Dwemer. All of this happened during The Battle for Red Mountain, the war between the Chimer and the Dwemer. As i said this should probably be in lore.

Then how do you explain that surviving Dwemer at Tel Fyr?

That IS official lore. If you actually would've talked to him, you would have found out he was in 'the Outer Realms' during the Battle and remained uneffected by Kagrenacs error. Then he got Corprus Disease making him an immortal mutant. Another theaory btw is that the Dwemer actually BECAME Numidium, and that his skin was made out of their souls.

It's fun trying to come up with a reasonable theory that the developers themselves can't create.

All of that can be found in books in Morrowind or by talking to our good friend Yagrum Bagarn in Tel Fyr. Or Vivec for that matter. He doesn't say much, just that they did not become immortal as he can't find them anywhere. And he's a God, he probably knows best.

They gave themselves up to become the golden skin of the god, Anumidum. It's called absorbocide.

That would be one theory. There are others equally likely to be true. Well more or less equally likely. Some are plainly not viable but you never know....

Yagrum tells us some Dwemer did not agree with Kagrenac's theories. I doubt they would give themselves up. But since the devs are never going to tell us what happened anyway, everything is as good as saying they became Ironwood Nuts since there are no Ironwood Trees or plants in the game :P

Within the context of several writings, it makes sense.

Do not think as others do that Kagrenac created the Anumidum for petty motivations, such as a refutation of the gods. Kagrenac was devoted to his people, and the Dwarves, despite what you may have read, were a pious lot-he would not have sacrificed so many of their golden souls to create Anumidum's metal body if it were all in the name of grand theater.

The Dwemer are a quit intresting and hot debating issue, and I hope for shakes Betheseda leaves it that ways (it gives a bit of orginality from tolkien-like fantasy)

a intresting picture i have found thanks to google is this one

The Dwemer or more common 'Dwarves' are totally not like the Dwarves you know, they are Mestopatian (Middle East) looking elves if you ask me.

Same region, but it would be better to say "Mesopotamian", "Sumerian" or "Assyrian" because "Arabic" refers to more modern eras and doesn't convey the proper idea for their http://www.imperial-library.info/gallery/mw_TAoM_p44.jpg.

That was hopelessly corny and bad. FYI, the disappearance of the dwarves predated Oblivion since Arena. And this is the same Bethesda who showed topless women in their video games.

Beth hasn't shown topless women since Battlepire, and they've been pretty good with keeping the goods out since then.

And the disappearance of the Dwarves was in Arena-Redguard (thoguh I'm not too sure if Redguard used the term Dwemer or Dwarf as I destroyed that piece of trash after playing five minutes of it). The Dwemer didn't exist until Morrowind onward.

They gave themselves up to become the golden skin of the god, Anumidum. It's called absorbocide.

more importantly still, why do we have so much dwemer armour in oblivion? its supposed to be incredibly rare and expensive. also it is meant to be the best armour which you can find.

The first part yes, and the second part no. 300 gold is still alot, and most of the people you find it are are bandit smugglers, so that is a likely place to find something incredibly rare and normally only manged by the eat empire company.

And it is no supposed to be the strongest armor in the game. Why? For one it is extremely old. Every piece you find comes from before the Dwemer became Lillim...uh Numidium. Second off, they don't have a Daedra living inside. I mean, it is pretty clear Daedric armor is the strongest conventional armor in Tamriel.

Sorta.

Because it's leveled loot. It completely disappears once you're past level 15 or so. But that doess not really have anything to do with lore at all what so ever. It's gameplay.

Unless you listen to me... in which case it was all smuggled in across the border by opportunists gleefully flouting the monopolies, and the rest was dumped on the market by the EEC, ruining the economy.

And then the flood of Daedric gear was planned by Dagon, who thought that destroying the economy was a good idea after all?

Well played.

I find it rather disappointing that, in Morrowind, a lot was made of the Emperor's declaring all Ebony and Dwarven weapons, armour and artifacts property of the Empire, and that owning said items were punishable by death, and that Oblivion didn't even mention this.

That being said, Morrowind didn't do a whole lot about it gameplay-wise. Dwemer artifacts and Ebony armour weren't contraband. It would have been interesting if it were necessary to unequip all your Dwemer and Ebony armour before heading into town, for fear of getting arrested.

Because of Emperor Septim's edict that all Dwemer artifacts belong to him. When he died, Cyrodiil was left with plenty of dwarven armor and weapons.
