Thats what i said about Ayleid ruins was every hall some kind of safety simulation to them or something?

I think most of those were installed by later inhabitants.

So, Dwemer ruins were once their cities, correct? You can see that they have living quarters, dining areas, armories, etc.

If that's the case, why the hell did they fill their damn cities with traps? I got turned into mince meat by these spinning blades that activated when I opened a door. What kind of moron would design his CITY to have deadly traps rigged to half the doors and staircases?

Did the Dwemer king just think "Ah, we might go extinct, let's place THOUSANDS of traps, just to [censored] with any adventurers that may try to explore our ruins." I wonder if THAT'S how the Dwemer went extinct. Thousands dying to the SPINNING BLADES OF DEATH that two-shotted my orc in all his Daedric armor.

So, thoughts? I'm still surprised that scholars haven't figured out the Dwemers cause of extinction. The last few probably just left false notes that they didn't die in a completely [censored] manner.

I remember reading in Morrowind that the Dwemer didn't go extinct but vanished under mysterious conditions. Like literally jsut dissapeared off of the face of the earth. I remember in Morrowing there was a Dwemer you could speak to and he was trying to figure out why they dissapeared and why he was forgotten or something. Anyway to answer your question maybe they plan on coming back and wanted to make sure no one took their junk?

Right now, a moat and a draw bridge is all you need really. :P

Dwarves need something to keep them occupied down under the earth. I mean, what kind of technologically advanced race is going to look at a pile of levers and mechanisms and just NOT make deadly traps with it? :hehe:

The traps you avoid were placed there by the Dwemer for defensive purposes. The ones that kill you were put there later by that one Dwemer in Morrowind (can't remember his name), to stop adventures looting the relics of his people.

Best reason I can come up with

If I'm not mistaken, it pretty much explains to you in Morrowind what happened to the Dwemer.

I know what happened to the Dwemer, the OP was a joke.

Although, I wouldn't place it above the Dwemer to invent lies, left behind in notes, to hide their deaths from their own traps.

Their toilets probably had legs. :P

Why run to the toilet when the toilet can run to you.. Damn that's a million pound idea! Better run to the patent office! :bolt:

They were in a war state, and the Falmer could pop out of anywhere.

ANYWHERE in the city!

They're master diggers, after all.

I'd even have a trap on my bathroom if I knew something could come busting out of my wall without any kind of warning xD

So because the Falmer can arrive anywhere, the only solution is to install traps anywhere!

Traps are important part of Dwemer's protect system. They are activated by centurions and other machine-servants when their Dwemer masters are not at home. When the entire race was disappeared their servants just activated all the traps and most of them are still working. That's how I have figured it out.

Maybe that's what the Dwemer Spheres were originally for... but they have been waiting so long for something to do they got irritable. So now they just beat the crap out of you. ;)

A Dwemer said, 'Nothing is of any use. We must go and misinterpret this.'

Vivec felt that his mother was afraid, and so consoled her.

'The fire is mine: let it consume thee,
And make a secret door
At the altar of Padhome,
In the House of Boet-hi-Ah
Where we become safe
And looked after.'

This old prayer made the netchiman's wife smile and begin such a deep sleep that when Dwemeri atronachs returned with cornered spheres and cut her apart she did not awake and died peacefully. Vivec was removed from her womb and placed within a magical glass for further study. To confound his captors, he channeled his essence into love, an emotion the Dwemer knew nothing about.

I figure the Dwemer have gone to one of Mundus' moons, and will one day return to the planet, and invade tamriel in their gigantic mechanical tripod war machines of death. The traps are just their head start at thinning the population.

Haven't found a dwemer ruin in skyrim yet, and I am not looking forward to it. My friend says they are too large and a pain to explore.

I totally enjoy exploring ruins and the Dwemer places (Morrowind and Skyrim) are awesome and full of atmosphere and make me interested in seeing more and learning about the race that built them. They could be 1000 times larger and id still love them.

Apart from one particular huge and outstandingly beautiful cavern, the Dwemer ruins are the best experience I've had in the game, the traps are a very enjoyable challenge, and the mechanics are fantastic, I'm hoping there is a chance to build from the parts found, if not I hope some creates a mod to do so.
