Dwemer Dissapearence: A Theory.

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:57 pm

So I was wandering around Skyrim a few minutes ago and stumbled upon our good old friend M'aiq The Liar and he said "M'aiq knows why Falmer are blind. It has nothing to do with the Dwemer disappearing. Really."

This got me thinking.

The Falmer were the dominant race in Skyrim before the Nords showed up from Atmora. Yet, where are the Falmer buildings? Outposts? Cities?

I'd expect to find a good bit of these ruins around Skyrim, but I haven't seen anything other than the Ancient Nord Cities and Barrows... And Dwemer Ruins. A lot of Dwemer ruins.

Now supposedly the Falmer went and hid with the Dwemer after the Snow Prince was killed and the Nords took Skyrim. This led to them becoming nothing more than slaves, after the Dwemer gave them Poisonous fungus which destroyed their eyesight.

Okay, well, what if that's all wrong? These books weren't written until after The disappearance of the Dwemer.

What if the Eye of Lorkhan didn't transport the Dwemer into another dimension? It seems farfetched even from my standpoint, but what if the Heart of Lorkhan cursed the Dwemer?

The Falmer rebelled against the Dwemer, and supposedly the war was still going on until the Dwemers disappearance in 1E 700. Now look how technologically advanced the Dwemer were, I can't see the blind De-evolved Falmer lasting long in this war. I can't be the only one who notices how much trouble these Falmer have taking out the Dwemer Centurions, Guardians and Spiders. This rebellion should've been squashed the moment it reared its ugly head.

Now, what if during that rebellion the Falmer were squashed, were utterly destroyed. What if the Heart of Lorkhan cursed the Dwemer into taking the place of the race of mer they had subjected to slavery?

Or it could've sapped their intelligence, turning the whole race into mindless beasts.

I'm not sure. With a name meaning "Deep-Elves" I'd imagine that the Dwemer looked much like the Falmer do now. Living in caves for a thousand or more years, losing their eyesight and turning their skin pasty white.

TL;DR: Dwemer = Falmer.

Thoughts? I could be all wrong, but to me it does make a little sense. I just feel like I am missing something that could support this further.

It's neat to see some of these new theories about the Dwemer.

But the question was already answered in Morrowind. To put it nicely, they've met with http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/276/5/d/you_have_met_a_terrible_fate___by_momokariya-d3014ka.png.

We already know what happened to them and they are not the Snow Elves. The Dwemer vanished by using Kagrenac's tools (Keening, Sunder, Wraithguard) to tap into the power of the Heart of Lorkhan. By doing that, they vanished into the skin of the Brass Tower, Numidium.

I knew about the Heart of Lorkhan, and them tapping into it. I've played through Morrowind.

Just the way M'aiq said it makes me feel like there is more to it. The Dwemer did cause the Falmer to go blind, but how is that linked to the disappearance of the Dwemer?

The one thing that was starting to bug me was that there are no Falmer ruins in Skyrim. Just the Dwemer Ruins.

Because of what dwemer structures and metal is made out of. Rock formations take much longer to erode away than wooden buildings. Heck dwemer metal doesn't degrade over time at all.(BECAUSE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sp-VFBbjpE. Falmer mainly.)

Karma caught up with them. True story.
And when you enslave and dehumanize (literally treat a race of people so badly that it actually permanently alters their souls making them into lesser beasts), that's a lot of bad karma coming your way.

M'aiq is a liar.

That's my point! "M'aiq knows why Falmer are blind. It has nothing to do with the Dwemer disappearing. Really."

Sarcasm is what it feels like. The Falmer supposedly went blind before the Dwemer dissapeared. So what is the connection between the two? Or is he telling the truth?

Bah.

There is another cause of blindness. It's also known for causing hairy palms. M'aiq's palms are certainly hairy....
