Dwemer return? Dwarves... the bearded ones. Fantasy staple.

I always thought the Dwemer were more based off of ancient Mesopotamia than Norse mythology.

Same here. Compare these 2 pics. http://fusionanomaly.net/gilgamesh.jpg and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-art-Dwemer-Concept.jpg.

Which part of ancient Mesopotamia? I just looked it up and Mesopotamia's history spans 9ages and about 6000 years.

The style, like J'sar mentioned, is the biggest one. The soldier on the far left of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PLATE3BX.jpg drawing looks a lot like the Dwemer concept art. 'Dagoth' and 'Ur' were both cities in the kingdom, and a few of the names of the ruins are similar to cities, iirc. The Mesopotamians were also considered very technologically advanced for their time, like the Dwemer.

Oh, yeah it does look like they were probably an influence as well.

While variety is good, I'd say there are other ways to add it. If Bethesda wants to increase the number of playable races in the game, something some would argue over, but I'm not saying whether they should or not, I'm not pointing out some options they'd have if they chose to do so, there are other races still living they could add, no need to bring back ones that are gone. And in any case, having actual Dwemer appear in the game would really not add much more variety, I'd say, at least in the race department, considering that they'd just be another kind of elf, really, and we already have a lot of those. They'd be elves with very different culture from the ones already playable, yes, but still elves nonetheless. Now having Dwemer ruins or artifacts in the game though would be fine, although I'd say we already explored that aspect of the lore satisfactorily in Morrowind, but regardless, if Bethesda wants to add some anyway, I won't complain.

I agree.By variety I meant not just playable races, but variety as a whole.Anything that contribute for this factor I will gladly say - Yes.Just look how dull and repetitive Oblivion was.And by saying that I don't want to start a flame war.Oblivion is a far superior to any other Elder Scrolls game, in terms of graphics, AI and gameplay. But that's it.I just fear that Skyrm may have the same fate.

Starting to wonder if I even should read the ignorance in this forum. Everyone seems to have a "DONT TOUCH IT OR COME UP WITH ANY IDEAS OK?!?!?!?!" mentality. Dragonbone summed up what I would say, and to conclude, yes something about Dwemers should be in Skyrim.

Morrowind covered them up nicely. Learned a lot about them, but they are still a mystery.

Skyrim should concentrate on something else, like the Falmer.

I don't know about other people, but I personally feel that some of that dullness was brought by negative changes, like the races for instance. Look at the Dunmer. In Morrowind, they were very distinct while in Oblivion they were just elves with differing eye and skin tones. Just something as simple as changing the voices to the "real" ones would have helped. It's far from the only reason, but that is why I don't agree with changing the Dwemer just because other races changed as well. Not all change brings improvement.

while i dont necessarily care if the dwemer themselves returned although it would be nice. as far as i know there is really nothing in lore preventing it from happening, if i remember correctly didnt the dwarves simply vanish and not just drop dead which means that they were transported somewhere else. what is stopping them from returning then?

i really wish that their technology made a comeback. we saw this to some extent with all the dwemer robots and ruins in morrowind and the big ball-o-stars that we got to fix with the oblivion DLC. why shouldnt there be a group of engineers that are dwemer fan boyz that repair and sell dwemer bot companions and those cool lightning guns that they dwemer archers used. magic in TES is so utterly boring and it would be nice to have a steampunk alternative to it.

think arcanum in first person. :)

You guys are so quick to squash ideas that could become a reality next November.

Dwemer are a personal fav, and they were implemented very well in Morrowind.

Would a little side quest involving the dwemer really destroy your soul?

There is no dwemer mystery. Word of god has said they're now the golden skin of the Numidium (giant stompy bot from TES:II), and the only one left is a diseased blob, whose body is now 3/4s cancer, partially insane, and can hardly remember anything from the past.

I am not amoung the "TES needs to feel completely unique and alien" crowd, but bringing back the Dwemer? and in the guise of the usual short and bearded axe wielding dwarf? No thanks. Besides i don't think this series needs any more races. Bethesda needs to make the 10 current races more unique before they even consider adding more.

The only place they showed up was in the ruin beneath Mournhold.
