Dwemer Scholars from Morrowind

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:08 pm

I'm doing a Dwemer mod and am looking to make it at least somewhat fit with lore. At this particular stage I'm researching the lore side and need to compile a list of NPCs in Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon that are interested in the Dwemer. Does anyone know any that I haven't included in the list below?

-Divayth Fyr
-Yagrum Bagarn
-Radac Stungnthumz
-Ignatius Flaccus
-Baladas Demnevanni
-Aryon ( he has a Dwemer museum in his tower IIRC )
-Edwinna Elbert
-Hasphat Antabolis
-Dahrk Mezalf
-Sotha Sil
-Anes Vendu ( dead )
-Pania Cadiusus

Sotha Sil is dead too.

You've included everyone I can think of. What kind of mod is this?

True. I can't guarantee he'll be dead in everyone's game though unless I make it a condition so I'll be using journals and letters from Sotha Sil to Divayth Fyr as the communications vessels rather than speech.

My mod is a Dwemer faction mod. The outline is in the link but the tl:dr version is that a some bad stuff happens and an old faction, called "The Artificer's Hand" which is dedicated to studying the Dwemer must raise a Dwarven fortress and use all the tech inside to repel the other factions and the new threat. The focus is on building Dwemer devices like mines and airships. Here's the link if you're interested:

Yeah, good point. Though he is more of a poet than an engineer but I can see him relating some information about the Wraithguard. He must have had it for an age.

Vivec has no interest in the Dwemer. He possesses Wraithguard because he was one of the people that used it to manipulate the Heart, not because he shares some interest in studying it. And even if he did have an interest in them, he wouldn't have anything to learn - he was alive before their disappearance. He said himself that he doesn't care about them.

He might just offer information on the way Wraithguard was constructed? He might not care, but he would know something

I think even if he related some information about how its performed over the eons then that would be something. I don't expect he would have vast knowledge of it but he would know how to apply it. Its behaviour under use would be good to know.

If you're including Vehk, then by those standards, Almalexia has to be included too.

If you're asking because you want to know who would be appropriate to include in the quest, then the Tribunal wouldn't be a reasonable option. The Tribunal wouldn't be bothered with just any person who strolls in and asks about the Dwemer. The player would have to have some kind of significant standing in the world.

Is Almalexia accessible outside of the Tribunal main quest, though?

True. The player will be notable by the end of the mod so so I can cover that one. But honestly, given that they only use the tools the information they give would be limited and maybe restricted to a few topics or passing comments.

I'm glad that you'll be portraying the Tribunal appropriately, and I can't wait to see how this mod turns out.

What about Sotha Sil, though? He can't participate if he's dead.

Ta, I'm trying to make it fit with lore as much as possible though a few bendy bits will be inevitable.

As for Sotha Sil it'll be letters, essays, journals, experiments etc. If I have particularly clever moments I will present information in the form of scenarios in which the player has to infer past or future events - kind of like a crime scene for lore buffs. I don't want to put too many restrictions on players and given the nature of the knowledge I'll be conveying I can have mulitple characters hold pieces of it so players can put them together. Also, if the player hasn't found Sotha Sil in their game they will just have to do the Tribunal main quest until they do. But I think most people who will be interested in a Dwemer mod will have done the Tribunal main quest or won't mind having to do it. Except me :whistling:

How do you plan on making him look? Cause in the game he's kind of... destroyed.

I recommend he looks like Vivec, only in steam powered armor or something
(assuming your referring to Sotha Sil, otherwise i'm sadly mistaken)

And a mask. I actually remember seeing a modders resource for an alive Sotha Sil, with an animation and all.

If I can work him in he'll be the resource that Nixta linked plus the mask will be obtainable ( mentioned by Nixta ).

Ninja'd :). It would be good to that resource in. Archmaestro has also done some others that I want to use.

The main problem in working him in would be how to explain his death. Perhaps a master clock-maker could produce a believable decoy. Or doppleganger?

I remember Almalexia saying that he didn't even make a sound as she killed him. This could be a good justification for a decoy/robot in his likeness. I have always wanted to converse with Seht in a flame-lit room. I just had an awesome idea for the mod actually. Secret Squirrel...

In all honesty, it's very likely that Sotha Sil IS the clockwork city. If you notice, he was hooked up with a ton of wires, and it's very likely he put his consciousness into that realm he created. The "imperfect" the nerevarine fought was likely a mini-Nunidium that Sotha was testing, but obviously wasn't correct.

That would also explain the rumors that he was "reshaping the world".

No, this is a theory that a lot of those who hang around here a lot came up with a long time ago. It sounds sound, despite there not being any real confirmation that I am aware of.

From memory, isn't there some dwemer mine somwhere that has a few people researching it?

Maybe Sorkvild the Raven can have some input, (hiding out in a dwemer tower and all) although probably not, as the majority of people will have killed him

EDIT: found that ruin, it's Nchuleftingth, the other resident Senilias Cadiusus should be added to the mod perhaps?,
