[REQ] Dwemer Statue

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:53 am

I'm working on a mod, and it could do with a statue, one not found in the vanilla game: a statue of Kagrenac. Obviously, there isn't much to go on in terms of Kagrenac's appearance (we know what the average Dwemer looked like, but that's about it), but for anyone who wishes to help me out here, I have a look in mind.

Given that he was a man of very high station, Kagrenac would most surely be portrayed by an artist in the most respectful and flattering manner possible. Flowing, highly-detailed robe, decorations demonstrating his rank, ornate jewelry, all that stuff. He may even be wearing a bit of armor, like a pair of boots and pauldrons. For this statue, what I most want is for him to be wearing a belt with Sunder and Keening dangling from it, and Wraithguard covering his right hand (who knows which of Kagrenac's hands was dominant, I'm just going with what hand Wraithguard normally goes on for the player). The Tools are what's going to give evidence of the statue being of Kagrenac, given that his appearance isn't exactly as recognizable as that of, say, Vivec.

I envision Kagrenac being a rather nasty-looking fellow, a little scarred and deformed from magical experiments gone wrong in his youth. His history would indicate to me that he didn't spend much time smiling, at least not while surrounded by people. I imagine this would be a little difficult to have come through in a chunk of stone meant to look almost 4000 years old, but perhaps the statue doesn't have to be made of something so susceptible to the elements?

I don't know what I could do to reward anyone willing to make this statue for me, but I'm not without skills, so I'm sure we can work something out.

That's a very nice drawing, but not quite what I have in mind.

I'm pretty sure that I read something somewhere that said dwemer did not wear armor directly, instead mounting it on their centurions, and were surprised at the thought of of wearing armor directly. If that is true, maybe just put some robes on the statue, and maybe a pauldron and gauntlet?

I find it hard to believe that a race capable of creating steam-powered robots would find the idea of wearing armor to protect themselves in battle as odd. I mean, the Dwemer had to evolve their technology just like anyone else, so it stands to reason that in the beginning, they strapped pieces of metal to themselves so that they don't get injured or die when a Chimer shoots them with an arrow.

Why? If they had technology to fight for them, I don't see it unfitting for them to think wearing armor and entering into a combat personally is somewhat primitive.

I would imagine him as standing in a noble type pose for a statue like this. His face wouldnt look happy or angry just "important". I think the statue would portray the best of him, not make him look "nasty".
