Dwemer in teaser but not in game, so I have 3 questions

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 7:25 am

I was just watching the teaser yet again ( I have to get my dose of ESO somehow now that beta has finished) and thought I'd ask a few burning questions I've had here as to why there is a dwemer in the teaser and not that option in game?

Now the very little I know about lore, I say little because some of you amaze me sometimes with your depth of lore and outright knowledge compared to what I've learned, anyway, the little that I know says the dwemer were all wiped out a few hundred years ago from where we take off from ESO, and aside from the one random you meet in morrowind (ES3) there really isn't any of them left.

1. So who is this dwemer in the teaser?

2. How did he survive?

And lastly the big question.

3. Why can we not have Dwemer as a race since there is one in the teaser?

Can I have a link, please?

Anyway, only one Dwemer survived, and that's because he was not in Nirn at the time that the other Dwemer wiped themselves from existence.

That should answer all the questions, if that one Dwemer that you saw is the same Dwemer that we can meet in TES: III.

Oh, I see, it is the Nord with the epic beard.

I could be wrong but he looks like dwemer to me. Happy to stand corrected, and this is the teaser or cinematic trailer if you prefer:

Oh yeah, he is a Nord and he and his crew are from the Ebonheart Pact. Dunmer, Nords, and Argos.

Altmer, Nord and Breton. It represents the 3 factions in the trailer.

I saw him as a dwarf as well. Funny that. Too ingrained on LOTR beard styles I guess =P

That's a Nord.

Dwemer: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120107003841/elderscrolls/images/thumb/3/3b/MW-Dwemer.png/268px-MW-Dwemer.png

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/350/0/f/one_dwemer_by_lokyl-d5o6lrc.jpg based on that + lore description.

They were probably even paler yellow than the second pic, closer to the first. They spent their whole lives underground.

A Dwemer child could out-beard a Nord advlt.

The Dwarfs of nirn are quite different than the Tolkien dwarfs. They are Elves and would look more like the Altmer rather than short hairy men.

Better to ask and get an answer than never know.

And besides, you said yourself you don't know a ton of TES lore. I don't fault you for not knowing. Hell, i've been a TES fan since i started college in '96, that's the better part of 20 years i been absorbing this stuff lol.

By the way, dwarves in Elder Scrolls =/= dwarves in D&D

Yeah, dwarfes in ES isn't even remotely like dwarfs from other fantasy settings, except the name (which isn't even their "true" name) and the whole underground thing. They are another elven race, there are no tradtional dwarves in ES.

But he isn't short in the teaser, and he looks dwemerish to me. I feel a little daft for not recognizing it as the three pacts...dur...

And that's where people like you guys come in, I can learn from you. Happy to learn more about this stuff.

The more I look at his armor, the more nord it becomes.

The Dewmer aren't even short. They got the name "Dwarves" from their close relationship with the giants, if I recall correctly. Thinking of them as dwarves like those you've seen in other fantasy worlds is an error.

Every representation I've ever seen of a Dwemer did sport an epic beard, however.

Ya I think this was the problem.

People think that Dwemer are Dwarves like from other fantasy series.

Looks almost Persian inspired. Or earlier Babylonian/Assyrian. Maybe that is what they were going for, a Civilization we know exists but don't know much about other than the ruins we can find. The idea obviously, not the real world example :P

TBH I find it a helluva lot more interesting than the generic stock fantasy dwarves. The idea is still there, a mechanically-inclined civilization mining the earth, but more than just "short hairy guy that gets drunk".

I don't want to get flamed to death or anything, but how on earth are people assuming that the Nord who towers over the human and elf was a dwarf, exactly? I mean, the very definition of dwarf means diminuitive... Gimli = shorter than Legolas and Aragorn. Flint Fireforge is shorter than Raistlin and Caramon. And so on. Dwarves are stout. Not giant. You're welcome.

I stand corrected, crow pie tastes horrible. I could just delete my old post, but what fun is that. It would seem that nobody REALLY knows how tall the dwemer were. I've always thought the stone benches and beds looked diminuitive, too small for someone human-sized. However, it would appear that most residents of Tamriel believe they were elf to human sized, while only a handful believe they were the size of children with beards.

TES Dwemer ("Dwarves" is a misnomer) were not short. They'd probably be somewhere between the nords and the altmer in height.
