DX11 Discussion

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 9:26 am

Alright guys, let's not get this thread closed. Don't bring consoles into it since we're talking strictly about PC.

Anyway, they've already said that Skyrim will use DX11 on PC, but it won't use any of the graphics features. Do you think there's a chance that they'll do the same as Crytek and release a full DX11 patch with improved textures, maybe a few months after release?

Although I'm digging Skyrim's art direction so far, I think improved DX11 textures/lighting would make it http://www.crysis2blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/crysis2fn21.jpg.

Personally, as much as I would like it, I'm not expecting it. And even if they do, it'll just be tacked on, basically. It won't have nearly the effect as it would have if the game had been designed with DX11 in mind.

I'm hoping for a full DX11 patch.

I want to stress my system as much as possible with Skyrim.

i want to see what it would look like with Tesselation.
I want to see what it would look like with maximum textures
I want to see what it would look like with superb lighting.

i want to see some highly advanced animations

but mostly just the tesselation.

Edit: Just looked at the image you posted OP. At first i was like :o NO WAI

then i was like, wait.. it looks shopped, now i don't know what to believe :/

They know full and well that the community will take that into their hands. So why spend resources on it?

I don't know a lot about it, but I've heard that it's nearly impossible to implement DX11 features if they're not included with the original game. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. I just seem to remember modders saying that it would be years at the very least before that would be possible.

There is a chance but it's soooo small that to calculate it would make me cry...

Oh well.

Did LoL heartily at the wallscum picture though. Surprised there haven't been more rage posts about the AI.

The chances are probably next to nil. I wouldn't say it is impossible but the number of folks who know how to write the DX11 shaders and then hack them into the engine without being able to touch the engine itself, not very likely I would think.

Obviously we'll get bigger texture packs and the like, same sort of things we get for Oblivion, but I'm fairly comfortable in saying you'll never see DX11 features in Skyrim.

Oh dear, you guys do make me chuckle.

But in all seriousness, of course there will be these things. I mean, bethesda obviously have nothing better to do than spend money and time developing graphic patches on a system where almost everybody pirates its games and never buys them.

Guys, we are lucky that bethesda arn't bastards and have made TES console exclusive.
It looks fine with DX9, and it will have DX 11 SUPPORT anyway, which will help graphic modders like timeslip.
Don't worry about it people.

I give it a year after launch, the features are there but there locked up begging to be unleashed. Though i'm not saying it would be easy but there's very talented modders out there.

Im not expecting it, and I do think it;s too bad.

But other than that, I won;t really miss it.

The game looks very pretty, and personally I don't need the most cutting edge lightning, or anything.

Well it's first gonna be created for the consoles and the ported to PC... So i don't think they'll add directx 11. Maybe it will be available as extra download or as a patch.

Would someone please post a video link if they know one, of something that is Dx11 based that cannot be done in Dx9, but is something we'd all want enough to bother getting a dx11 card and operating system (which would run the gamer about $500 give or take)?

There's no way they'd spend more time developing for the PC above the absolute minimum. And even if they did release a patch with more graphical features, they'd charge money for it.

Crytek didn't charge for their DX11/texture patch.

And about the screenshot, it would take a beast of a rig to achieve those graphics, but it's real. Here are some more:

I don't see much difference myself, and I usually like the Dx9 version better it seems.
(the Dx11 version is too dark in places... it actually loses detail in some spots.)

**Here is a second video with an upgraded Crysys2 (say it uses higher res textures).

Neither did Bioware but this is Zenimax. The pics are awesome.

I find it amazing that picture 2 is crysis and not real life :P

I hope some random company makes another game like crysis 1 in a couple of years. Something that really pushes the boundaries again.
For those don't know...

Crysis = 2006
Oblivion = 2005

You cant see any difference. Not.

Unless of course they really wanted to see the game they make look it's best .. If YOU were making a game, wouldn't you want to see it at it's possible best? That being PC DX11. I don't get why they wouldn't do it seeing as it's what alot of there PC fans want.

Maybe the people that want to use dx11 just simply arn't allowed to .But i bet someone in that Bethesda office would love to add DX11 to the game....SHOUT louder mate so they can hear you!!!!

Others have done it why can't Bethesda. :(

It's a modded Crysis 1

@MadHaze. Zenimax never did give BGS a chance to stress their PC ports. I'd definitely do it - it only needs a small team - but Betheswon't.
