All I can say is THANK YOU Crytek for listening to us pc users and not forgetting how you got where you are today!!

Kinda svcks that many people have already beat the game. By the time the patch is released, Crysis 2 will be old news...

Looking forward to the patch regardless, but just a very bad call to release the game as unfinished as it was...

Hope they make the textures a bit more high res as well so it doesent look like a cheap PS3, or Xbox game...

Thanks for the announcement Crytek. I biched alot about this game, but after I finished the single player, I was more than happy with it, but still missed the Crysis 1 eyecandy. DX11 will be icing on the cake.

I care. After all the biching and moaning (from me as well), people like you are now complaining they're putting in the time, money and effort into patching in DX11? The fact that the game shipped as a slightly better Xbox game is water under the bridge. Patches like this can only make things better.
who cares now? i used to give a crap but i couldnt care now if its DX12, whats the point, youve finished the game, so what if you get some gloss ass $hit on your second playthrough?

It should have been there when we got the game, adding it later is just pointless and nonesnse.

The fact that the game shipped as a better 360 version wont make me replay the game in the future and wont make me bother with its new "glorious" visuals.

FCUK Crytek and their LIES and ****, there are better and more deserving PC developers for our PC cash.
Shut the **** up you whiny twat.

no, IM with you... if it makes them happy, fine... but... a good game should come before graphics... especially in this age where it's harder and harder and harder to be THAT much better looking.

I'm just glad that Crytek/EA have the decency to keep their lips sealed about DX11 features until they're SURE that they will be in the game (close to the release date). From what's happened so far, most would expect them to do the opposite and show all of these amazing DX11 videos/screens and then not release half of them in the final patch. Thank you, Crytek/EA.

The question:
Will the DX11 version of Crysis 2 include DX10 features that can be used on systems that have only DX10 hardware support?

The answer: Probably yes.

Direct3D 11 is a strict superset of Direct3D 10.1 — all hardware and API features of version 10.1 are retained, and new features are added only when necessary for exposing new functionality. This helps to keep backwards compatibility with previous versions of DirectX.

Direct3D 11 runtime introduces Direct3D 9, 10, and 10.1 "feature levels", compatibility modes which allow use of only the hardware features defined in the specified version of Direct3D.

What that means: On a DX10 system the DX11 features will simply not be used. DX11 when implemented in an intelligent way uses all or most of the basic DX10 features (and DX9 features) and uses the DX11 features to enhance the features provided by DX10. That ordinarily means that a DX10 system will use DX10 features in an application implemented for DX11. It is quite silly and in most cases impossible to implement only the few DX11 features without implementing any of the DX10 features.

There are only 3 prominent DX11 features that are only implemented by DX11.
1. DirectCompute - a way to get the GPU to perform certain processing tasks on the GPU instead of the CPU. When implemented a DX10 system simply does this processing on the CPU. This is determined by the video driver and is totally transparent to the user. When DX11 hardware is present it DOES provide much better performance but it is a programming optimization technique dependent on sensible implementation.
2. Better Multithreading - obviously intended to better support multi-GPU hardware and SLI configurations. Whether this will give better performance is up to the programmers.
3. Hardware Tessellation - this is the big addition in DX11. Intended to give (visually) higher quality models without a performance penalty. Again, whether this actually improves the visual quality of a game is up to the programmers. Current implementations show little difference in DX10 versus DX11 visual quality.

There is no point in implementing the specific DX11 features without having first built a base of good implementation of the DX10 features. So, the DX11 version of Crysis 2 will almost certainly feature DX10 support as well as DX9 support.

There is so much potential for console to excell in graphics. It really is not fair that console users can't get upgraded graphics whle PC gets upgraded graphics, chance to add mods that add new content, and pretty much they get their own sandbox. And just throwing out the words kid, you might want to check my age before saying so. I am a older vivid gamer, been around alot longer than you and seen all there is from Attair to Xbox 360.

Not really. The consoles are limited by their hardware which cannot be upgraded and are years behind the capability of a modern PC. Some console gamers are already complaining about stuttering and low frame rates on the latest titles.

That is true atleast, but I mean in their own terms. Not in PC terms. So far what I seen from Crysis 2, it is not taking full advantage of the 360's hardware. The game is looking more like a game based on Xbox instead of 360, but that is okay, as long as the gameplay excells. But right now, the gameplay is buggy at best.

Jesus Christ almighty, the amount of complaint on these kind of forums are atrocious. It's filled with bumbling morons who knows jack **** about game development, elitist idiots and dumb pirates. Crytek, you are a good company, just whatever you can to please your fans. You are in control of the game, not them.

I hope people don't honestly believe that the difference between how Crysis 2 currently is now as opposed to how it'll be when this DX11 patch comes out will be HUEG!

Um, DX9 to DX11. Quite a leap in technology, with a quite big differences.

And here you are not adding anything but a complaint. Go svck your thumb and prostate yourself at the altar of Crytek. Meanwhile, I'd still like Crytek to fix the issue with multi GPU full screen flickering. I think DX11 would be a nice addition to the game. Is that alright with you?

It doesn't matter how much of a leap of technology it is, I'm just saying if you're expecting it to look noticeably better then you will be disappointed.

Nice way of not comprehending my sentence. If you've seen me earlier, I am quite happy with this DX11 announcement, I was mainly focusing to the amount of complaints on a Crysis 2 forum, which is astonishing.

I am quite optimist and I think there WILL be differences. I am sure, seeing as how they will get the most out of DX11.
