i hope u guys consider this while doing crysis 2 dx11 patch pls.
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=31520674&postcount=28 IMO this is the best and most informative post in this thread. Thanks, I understand a lot more about DX10 and 11 as a result of reading the article you linked to and why full DX11 support for the game has been so slow.
I use an ATi HD6970 card and looking at the AMD website I can't see anything on there that indicates support for multi-threading with the graphics. I can see how this would allow a fully DX11 enabled card to not only render higher quality images but also use the deferred render queue to overcome bottlenecks and speed up the processing, I hope that AMD get that added to their drivers before the patch is released.
Its driver based, so you can expect your 6970 to have it. Actually, AMD would prefer to give developers access to the metal and remove the API. Believe me the card is capable, its probably in the 11.4 beta or it will be in the final driver release (11.4). There are a lot of developers thats asking for these drivers, BF3 needs it. Multi-threaded rendering is going to be big for any dev team developing on PC.Thanks, I did some checking on the AMD website and as you said above 11.3 doesn't have the feature added, nor does the 11.4 beta, but hopefully they will add it to 11.4 final or 1.5 beta. I'm sure they know that Crytek are looking at rolling out a DX11 patch and will hopefully want to get a driver update to ensure that they don't lose ground to nVidia. Especially as nVidia are now on their 2nd revision of driver support for multi threading.
It wouldn't surprise me if the reason for the DX11 patch delay has been down to driver support, after all how can Crytek test a product if the drivers to run the product aren't available? Or worse, they release the patch and then a driver update comes out and breaks the game, who would people blame for that?
I'm now more exctied about the driver update and seeing more power from the GPU being unleashed than I am about the DX11 patch that will then be able to use that power, finally I'll have a combination that will test my rig! ;D
