DX11 Patch Announced for Crysis 2!

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 2:14 am

Also, DX11 doesn't magically make a game look 99999999999 times better (see BFBC2).

Directx 11 can make a big difference. Just look at the heaven benchmark (unigine)

Or... you can look at a game built originally for DX9/10 with DX11 added onto it (like BFBC2).

It's foolish to compare Crysis 2, which is a game made primarily with DX9 in mind with a benchmark made to showcase (and let's face it - to advertise) the hardware tessellation of DX11.

Slapping a DX11 pipeline onto an already made game isn't going to somehow magically make things better. If crytek had developed crysis 2 FROM THE START with DX11 in mind and used the pipeline to take advantage of all of it's features then maybe it would've made a "big difference." IMO gluing it on to the final product as a patch isn't going to be a giant game changer by any degree.

Also @yakkern - let's not attack each other based on race, yeah? I can see where you're coming from, but making every single glassy object in the damn game to have realtime reflections is clearly not going to help. I don't think I was very clear about that in my original post.

Honestly I was waiting for my new monitor to come in (and hoping DX11 by then) before I started campaign- well it's here so I started and have to say even though it is DX9 this game looks amazing. Better than even most DX11 games. Think a good mix of (engine, textures, art, etc) all the above is needed to make a game great, and not just tech.

Thanks CRYTEC- don't care what the DX11 fanboys say, this is an awesome game and doesn't play like a port to me!

The DX11 is an after thought which is GGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. Least this will improve the graphics but the damage is still done unless this patch is 4-6gb. But really, its probably going to just add some lighting effects and a little bit of tessellation. **** YOU CRYTEK. If this is some anti piracy scheme to release dx11 later so the pirates will buy the game. I think its safe to say its probably going to fail.

Also, "BF3 is designed to Beat COD"? LoL! By wut? enhancing the snipe fest and putting tents on the campers? The only way I see this happening is if they have a lot of huge maps with a couple of small maps. And hopefully they fix the controls... W + A = running at an angle. Doesnt seem to work for bfbc2...

Anyone thinks the game review people will do an edit on their videos? For example, the guy from gametrailers.com reviewed crysis 2 and said that in terms of "graphics, pc looks the best but the consoles are not far behind" which is certainly true but if dx11 is going to do anything to improve the graphics for the PC, it should look way better then what the consoles can do. But of course if dx11 really is an after thought and they are only going to add barely any noticeable effects to it and just claim its in "dx11", I am not looking too much forword to it. Just cause its in dx11 but looks slightly better then dx9, I dont think it will mean anything then. But if its truely in dx11 and makes pcs look far more superior then consoles, then **** yea!!!!!

Consoles run rubbish resolution, rubbish texture quality, horribad jaggies on account of no Antialiasing, unlikely to use any texture filtering to speak of and running at 20-30FPS (considering TV it's okay, but it's still absurd when the framerate is chunking on a console).

PC's have been capable of running games looking nicer, run better and faster than ps3/xbox360 since those consoles were released

I'm not a stickler for graphics, and Crysis 2 really does look good for DX9/10, but Crytek has a lot of hype to follow up. The first Crysis was made to show how much the PC can do. That game alone was responsible for a huge jump in graphics card performance needed for the game to be enjoyed. (At full potential) As well as showcasing the new DirectX 10!! Until a hack was enabled for DX9 cards that can emulate DX10 with better performance. DOH!! I was hoping that Crysis 2 will do the same for the gaming industry and hardware companies to stop being stagnate and move forward. I thought the new Cryengine 3 would perform better for older DX10 cards because of the new tech that only PC's have, and the consoles would be an after thought.

Like everyone here, I am very curious to see what Crytek is putting in Crysis 2 as DX11 enhancements. Is it going to be like Uningine Heaven DX10 to 11 difference with tessellation implemented, or is it just going to have sharper textures, better reflections and lighting. I think they had DX11 in mind and wanted to do it but, due to either time or money (maybe both) they backed off and concentrated on DX9 for consoles.

Either way, I'm happy that Crytek is listening and caring about the PC community that they will make a DX11 patch for them. You don't see that kind of support for PC lately.

People, please copy and paste my post to remind Crytek what they should add into patch!

No. Stop whining.

You wanted Crytek to be doing the latest tech, well they're doing it.. And that's called DX11, not DX10.
If you want to be putting your money where your mouth is when demanding everything from Crytek you better get out and buy the latest GFX card.

I really doubt about free patch…
Probably they will release some kind expansion (something like Crysis Warfare) with DX11 patch (which will update Crysis 2 )... and all this won’t be free!

IMO the game looks just fine now, but rather than putting out a useless dx11 patch, a high-res textures patch and bugfixes for the Damn AI might be a better use of time and resources. But nooo you guys kept shouting "WHY NO DX11" and now look what we're getting...
The team working on DX11 aren't the same team working on textures and AI :)

Every improvement to make Crysis 2 a better game is important in particular is DX11 for majority of pc gamers really had high expectations from Crytek to surpass what it did in Crysis 1 not only in terms of gameplay but especially in graphics quality and that is where DX11 comes in.

What about physics? You gonna improve it?
I was expecting something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZn7JuYZEaI [starts at 0:46]
But after all the “Destructible World” wasn’t really destructible, it was static and boring!

If they also finish physics of game, the patch in general knows a horse-radish when on light will appear! Let at least will betray on full power all delights 11dx, and more detailed options of a drawing as it was in the first crysis!

Also bitte bietet es kostenlos an.

Sorry das ich nur auf deutsch schreibe, mein englisch ist schlecht.

I like how he used present tense. Maybe there'll be an AI/texture update as well.
