dxd9.dll Fix not working as well as I'd hoped.

Okay, I bought Fallout New Vegas and I was really excited to play/have it. But I start the game and the NPC lag issue hit me hard. So after a little cursing and some Google magic, I discovered that I needed the dxd9.dll in my New Vegas directory. I did so and the problem went a away but several new ones popped up. First the Graphical Quality is not what I would like it to be. I have turned everything up. Second, the Window border constantly flickers while I am playing. I have tried many different things to get it working. Found out my drivers were way the frak out of date. Updated, but after new issues began to pop up. Now the game locks up after about 15 minutes of gameplay and Fast Travel takes a good 4 minutes to do. I find that the game freezes while the window border flickers and it will recover and I will eventually get to where I wanted. Fast Travel also seems to be the reason why the game is locking up. For example I fast traveled to The Strip north gate, walked through it, and after walking by the Lucky 38 it froze and I had to use the three finger salute to close FONV. Fallout 3 ran beautifully on my system maxed out even with graphical improvement mods. Any help Would be Appreciated.

I do not want to seem rude as fallout New vegas does have many bugs and issues. But you are trying to run this on a notebook with a NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT.

Most games (And I say most - as I have never seen one clearly say they support notebook video cards ) do not support Notebook video cards (Even though the game may/may not run on the notebook).

Having said that:

Border issues can be caused from drivers, forcing AA through the Nvidia control panel (Use in game), Having HDR and AA both set to on.

I highly suggest, that if you are going to really be serious about gaming - get a desktop- not a toned down mobile computer.

looks like an overlay issue. I get that when I use the keyboard volume control, and mouse battery warning. I've also seen that when another program is trying to steal focus.

Have you tried to launch the game after a clean boot? try msconig. the startup tab should only have things checked that are necessary to make the computer work. 90% of the crap just slows things down.

EDIT: also I think STEAM community uses an overlay at the top. make sure that is turned off in the game config in STEAM.
