Dynamic body change

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 2:16 am

That is not the way the body works. Fable actually did it like this? Awful.

It's just warrior -> bulk, rogue -> definition, magic -> veins, alignment -> aura. Oh, and of course eating tons of fat and sugary food makes you fat. No, not realistic, but it definitely fits the game and its tongue-in-cheek take on fantasy. ^_^

What ruined the first game was that levels were represented as years. So you start at 20 and end up as an 85 year old geezer.

Sorry but awful idea, it takes long enough in the facegen to make an avatar that doesn't resemble an amphetamine addict with sunburn. It will take even longer now with body shape choices ( but probably oh so worth it ) . I don't want the TLC lavished on my character's look to be ruined because I've gotten good with a sword.

What do you guys say about a fable-esq body altering system related to your skills, such as extended use of blunt or two handed weapons gives your character more muscle mass then say someone who runs around swinging a short sword who would have more muscle definition. Also someone with high athletics or acrobatics skills would in turn be a lit slimmer and athletically built then say someone who specializes in heavy armor who would have more of a bulky build. This also plays into food where someone who heals with fruits and vegetables would be more fit them someone who constantly stuffs down mutton.

Only during character creation. After GTA San Andreas dynamic bodybuild I've been having nightmears about that, and even if it would be improved from that I propaply wouldn't like it. Plus when I play RPG I want complete control over my character so bodybuild changing around when I play wouldn't fit in that category.

I didn't like it. Why put so much time in creating your character's build when it changes by your actions. I'm not putting you down, just dynamic bodies in general.
That's pretty much my thoughts. No point in really designing a character; it'll constantly change over time.

I'd rather you just pick your body at the start.
I believe that is what Beth is going to do.

Only Fable I played was the first (where your guy ages to reallly old and grey in a few years and everyone else still looks the same  ), but I'd heard a number of reviews of 2 that said the whole feature was terrible.

No thanks.

I wouldn't mind it if it were done very very subtly and only with specific things. I think it would be nice to be able to tell if a person or if the PC is sick by looking at them. Bloodshot or dark ringed eyes, maybe redness or even rash depending on the disease. I wouldn't really want massive body changes, but maybe some toning and very subtle and slow developing weight alterations would be fine.

Personally, I would rather just see environmental affects. Dirt or mud, wet from rain, glisten from sweat. Blood from a recent battle. I think those kind of more immediate affects would give the character more personality than long term ones that kind of outwardly typecast the player into obvious roles.

i thought about that a lot

i think it would be great if your strength changed your appearance (made you more yolked), but since theres no strength stat anymore i guess then health pool would work, or for example bigger mana pool makes your eyes glow or something like that

i really like how in KOTOR your appearance changed depending on what side of the force you were,

i often thought how it would be cool in rpgs that have magic schools divided by elements (fire, water, air . . .) that your appearance changes depending on which element you were proficient in. fire would make your skin darker and your eyes red, air would make you look like storm from x-men . . . stuff like that

I think something very subtle, that is limited by your original body type that you choose, nothing excessive or "silly". I quite liked this mod for Oblivion that altered your muscular build depending on your Strength attribute. Perhaps magical players can grow longer beards, have more intense eyes (nothing glowing or sparkly), maybe have a little environmental awareness when outside, snow swirling about their feet, grass greening in their footsteps. Stronger players should have more mass, more agile, quick players should have more tone.

It should really only be noticeable at higher levels in order to visibly distinguish character strength/skill. Nevertheless, Fable's implementation was idiotic and grotesque, especially when it came to character metabolism (it didn't matter that you were constantly out sweating your keester off planting blades in bandit maxilla; eating meat or cheese, even in moderation, turned you into an ugly, obese creep).

The idea is great but when your running in full plate you won't even notice unless you get taller and wider.
Now i like the idea of if you use magicka to an insane degree that your body will take on an ethereal appearence, rune's that glow through your armor/robe.
Im not fond of the Fable esq idea of when you get hit you can get a scar either.
As far as your action's giving you an "Evil" or "good" look just no. Why spend all that time making your character's look when it will just auto change if your "evil"? like what becoming a vampire did to you in morrowind
