Dynamic body change

Post » Wed May 25, 2011 5:41 pm

What do you guys say about a fable-esq body altering system related to your skills, such as extended use of blunt or two handed weapons gives your character more muscle mass then say someone who runs around swinging a short sword who would have more muscle definition. Also someone with high athletics or acrobatics skills would in turn be a lit slimmer and athletically built then say someone who specializes in heavy armor who would have more of a bulky build. This also plays into food where someone who heals with fruits and vegetables would be more fit them someone who constantly stuffs down mutton.

I didn't like it. Why put so much time in creating your character's build when it changes by your actions. I'm not putting you down, just dynamic bodies in general.

I didn't like it. Why bother with putting so much time in creating your character's build when it changes by your actions. I'm not putting you down, just dynamic bodies in general.

I ditto this.

I think the response to that system in Fable III (or which ever) was overall pretty negative. But that's just what I've heard.

I hated how when I went on a killing spree I looked so ugly. My gosh I'd have hated it if it were like that in oblivion.

I think it's a nice concept -- but it has to be a bit subtle. I heard that in Fable you could become fat in a matter of minutes --- it should take weeks (in-game time) to notice even a slight weight gain -- and muscle tone should only change slightly with increased strength (to not offset the careful shaping people like The Tamriel Terror has done) :)

One thing from fable that should never come into TES, mind - is those runes that pop up like zits on your face when you get better at magic. Uhhg <_<

edit: Btw, I haven't played Fable for more than an hour or so -- I've only watched my brother played when I walk through his room, so didn't know about the changes that occur when your karma changes.... that's just stupid, IMO

It was amusing in the first Fable, but it got really negative reviews for Fable 2 in large part because the females ended up looking like Russian Olympic shot putters, and was largely removed from Fable 3.
Good for a less serious RPG like the Fable series, but not The Elder Scrolls or Fallout for that matter.
However if you could choose to make your character taller/shorter or thinner/fatter at the point of character creation that would be cool in my opinion.

Yeah, what happened was I wanted to play as small/medium character yet ended up looking like the hulk simply because I liked swinging a sword around

the only thing I liked in fable in that regard, is that my character ended up looking like a complete demon (even more so when he became a girl lol).
dresses like a marrauder, scraf and bandana hiding the face, trench coat, all in black, with horns going out downwards, blue-ish skin, green glowing eyes, blue mana lines, tons of scars, the red lines you get when you're evil, and tatoos.
might sounds random, but it looked epic lol.

still, I wouldn't want that in Skyrim. not that it's a bad idea, I just don't want every choice I make to have an effect on what I look like

I'd rather you just pick your body at the start.

Do not want.

I don't want the game to ruin my character's body that I've customized for him/her.

Yes Absolutely,

Just the amount of muscle mass and muscle tone. And make it so women can't get as muscular as men (except for Orcs and Nords).

I agree there. When I spend a long time creating a character I like, I don't want to have the original look I went for change due to something that happens during the game. I just want to make my character look the way I want at the start, and keep my character the way I want.

Maybe for some games, I wouldn't mind something like this, but none of those games are ones where I could spend an hour or longer creating the exact character I want.

No. If anything change related it would have to be by will because your character didn't look the way you intended in daylight because you set him/her up with dungeon candles. Natural shops for the natural things, like beauty (skin tones) and hair dressers etc. But I still want to be able to change some body related parameters at startup, like height, weight, briast girth, waist girth, hips girth, leg length, and muscularity: http://www.wimp.com/lookgood/ Maybe muscularity as the game progresses, but at my own leisure at specific places.

Ok, found better, from actual games, but you get the picture :)

Ah, hell no. I prefer my Average Joe Warrior to have a "normal" body frame without the "extra muscle" or gaining them in a sudden. Same with my female toon.

firstly- not skills- atributes are a yes though

agility could get rid of some fat

strength could make muscles bigger

endurance could make other muscles bigger, or could handle 50% of muscle size in conjunction with strengh

willpower and intellegence i dont know about. maybe they should alter facial expressions

personality could give the player different facial expressions.

oh, and no extremes. a character at the most should be built like a rugby player, an Olympian that isn't a weight lifter or like Bruce lee. no super buff freaks, even if you have 100 everything!

this would be much better than what you posted

That is not the way the body works. Fable actually did it like this? Awful.

This feature of Fable is preciselly what make me don't enjoy a game that I enjoyed a lot at the start. If you think that previous TES games experience system could ruin your playing, Fable morphing is waaaay worse.
