Dynamic Hair Growth for PC

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 1:26 am

What I would love to see is some form of dynamic hair growth for the PC. In The Witcher 3 you saw Geralt’s beard grow from clean shaven to a bit of a five o’clock shadow (I have to check that as I haven’t played it for a few months and I left him with a beard) to a trimmed beard to a bit scraggily, there were more beard lengths but they were cut to accommodate the free Beard and Hair Style DLC, I do not know if his hair grow before the DLC.

It would be cool to see your character’s hair and beard (or just hair if it’s a woman) grow. Now there would have to be some limits not everyone can grow a ZZ Top but it would be good to start off with a clean cut character and by the end of the game he looks like Grizzly Adams.

No thanks. Haircuts are annoying enough in real life, I don't want to pick a style I like just to have it messed up after a few hours of playing time.

It could be fun but I don't think we'll get that feature unless someone makes a mod for it.

I think my preferences for realism in games stops at hunger pains. I don't think I'd ever play on hardcoe personal hygiene mode. I can see a mod coming now. Someone's going to add a hygiene bar that decays over time.

Beard/Hair growth is easy to do when theirs virtually no character customization to worry about...

Beth only just added physics based rendering (hair movement etc), so keep hoping...

I dig what you are saying OP, but the real question is how fast are we talking?

I mean, we all grow hair at different rates. I look like a burly hobbit after a month without a haircut.

Sounds like a good mod, if anything.

It would be a nice thing. Nothing I would expect to see in the actual game, though.

Eh, mostly I'd just like a way to change hairstyles in-game without needing to use showracemenu via console. As well as, of course, a plentiful array of options to choose.

If I feel my character would be growing a beard or longer hair, then I'd just be able to change it to something more suitable.

The Hygiene bar get low enough you get a special stink kill ability. Mind you it would be good to see your character’s clothes get dirty.

A day or two (game time) for a five o’clock shadow if your character has a goatee or something the growth happens around it.
A week game time a bit of a growth.
Two weeks it starts to fill out.
Three weeks it’s a short beard.
To maybe two months game time Grizzly Adams.

Awww my secret mod plans revealed!

Also adding "mood", "bladder" and "stimulation" by the way

Come on imagine the hilarity!

*the solver survivor walks a lonely road, the sun bearing down, the horizon holding deadly surprise, who knows what secrets await-*

*fart sfx*

SS "Ah damn, ruined a perfectly clean vault suit AGAIN!"

*dog meat looks up at the sole survivor, pondering the sudden strong odor*

Personal hygiene, hair growth with havoc, and bodily functions related to Realistic Needs (I really mean you know) all of this has already been done as a mod.

Lol it could have negative effects on your charisma that progressively increase until it reaches the point where people attack you on sight

I would like something along those lines. As a man who gets a full beard within a week if I don't shave, it'd be very immersive to have your character get at least a 5 o'clock shadow after a few days. Since this wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea perhaps it would be possible with a mod.

Nah. Just give us the option to get a "haircut", aka change hair style.

Good mod. Call it "Fresh Cut". Have it function the same as the Witcher 3 and when the SS gets a haircut/shave they get a temporary Speech/Charisma bonus called Fresh Cut. Once it's grown to the next phase or size then you lose the temporary C buff.

I would only go for that if there was an NPC readily available to barber the hell outta that hair.

Would be cool, but I usually make scraggly bearded elderly characters with bald heads, so maintaining style would not be a huge issue for me.

I love TW3. Although in my experience, hair growth - though nicely implemented and with decent variety - is not really a mechanic that is necessary in my game. In TW3, hair growth makes more sense than in FO/TES because Geralt isn't a very customizable character in terms of natural appearance so having a different hairstyle and beard is great in order to break from the monotony of Geralt's iconic appearance.

I would rather see in FO4 Hairworks; hair/fur that moves realistically or, better yet, visible dynamic object/armor deformation that you can repair - something that really has more practical use than hair growth.

i know that from the TW3 but that only work if u never change your hair cut, as soon as u choose any other hair style the hair stop growing. So as u can see the whole feature have their limitation, not to mention that the hair growth was ridiculous only need 1 or 2 days in game to get full grow.

This.

It irritated me that Geralt's beard kept growing. I just wanted it to stay short and trim, not haggardly after a single day.
