[RELz] Dynamic Weather + Rain

Post » Tue Oct 26, 2010 6:51 am

I haven't made any change to this for a couple of days, so I'm reckoning it's ready for a release.

Hopefully, everything is all present and correct and, as always, feedback is welcome.

READ:

Name: Dynamic Weather - Rain
Version: 1.2
Date: 04/03/2010
Category: Gameplay Effects and Changes
Requirements: Fallout 3 v1.7, Xepha's Dynamic Weather, Skindgrad24's Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow
Optional Requirements: Operation Anchorage (DLC)
Author: Xepha
Source: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607

======================
Dynamic Weather - Rain
======================

Dynamic Weather - Rain adds two new weather types to the Dynamic Weather climate utilizing the rain meshes/textures and sound effects of Skingrad24's Enhanced Weather Rain mod.

I have made a point of basing Dynamic Weather Rain on Enhanced Weather Rain 1.5, as I believe there is a slight performance gain over using Enhanced Weather Rain 2.0. Or it could just be my 8800GTS starting to show it age... :( Dynamic Weather - Rain should, however, be compatible with both versions of Enhanced Weather.

Heavy Rain uses thunder and heavy rain sound effects and lightning effects against a heavily overcast and dark weather type. Heavy Rain has a 50 percent chance of appearing.

Light Rain uses light rain sound effects against a modified, unused weather type, found in the Fallout3.esm (similar to Wasteland East). Light Rain has a 60 percent chance of appearing.

If you enjoy my implementation of Rain in Dynamic weather, don't forget to pop over to Skingrad24's Enhanced Weather page at the nexus and drop a Kudos/Endorsemant or two !

Skingrad24's Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow @ the nexus: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6170

======================
***IMPORTANT INFO***
======================

Skingrad24's Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow MUST be installed and its ESM activated for Dynamic Weather - Rain to work ! Pick it up here:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6170

At the very least, the following should be extracted from Enhanced Weather Rain:

Data\Meshes\Mieimod\Different Weathers\sky\Rain.nif
---( Data\Meshes\Mieimod\Different Weathers\sky\RainUP.nif (only if using EW 2.0) )---

Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_01.wav
Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_01m.wav
Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_02.wav
Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_02m.wav
Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_03.wav
Data\Sound\fx\mieimod\Different Weathers\ambient\thunder\amb_thunder_03m.wav

Data\Textures\Mieimod\Different Weather\Rain.dds
---( Data\Textures\Mieimod\Different Weather\Rain2.dds (only if using EW 2.0) )---

Please note that Skingrad24's "Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow in Fallout.esp" is NOT required and should NOT be used if you want to utilize Dynamic Weather's Rain weather types and climate. Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow.esm IS required and should be loaded before Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm.

I won't not be supporting Skingrad24's other Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow addons/plugins (such as Radioactive Rain) as I don't use them myself - questions regarding these should be directed to Skingrad himself.

Also, I don't have any plans to implement snow weathertypes at this time.

Wewt! Good to see it's here, and congratulations on the release. :)

Stupid question though: Do I need to update my current (v1.2) Dynamic Weather, or can I just download the DW - Rain.esp and get going?

Yeah, you should be able to just get going with whichever DW - Rain.esp you need. (I did test that didn't I? - Yes you did, Xepha )

If it doesn't work, I might need to upload my current esm (which has some minor modifications since 1.2) - should be alright though - fingers crossed.

This looks awesome. Since Skingrad24' Enhanced Weather is compatible with Fellout I assume this is as well?

I'm afraid not.

The two new weather types (and indeed all dynamic weather types) are tightly integrated into the dynamic weather climate - which takes over the weather system entirely. Really, the whole of Dynamic Weather isn't really designed to work with any other weather mods.

Something I thought about was to create a small Enhanced Weather overrider mod - but then that would allow EW's rain controlling scripts to take control again - something I personally wanted to avoid, since it just seemed to rain far to much. Implementing it as I have done allows me to set a strict limit on how long it rains (when it does), albeit to the detriment of compatibility.

Hmm...

Have added it to my load order (for the time being, will have to see how it goes as I like having snow too). Will let you know if I run into any issues.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
I have some problems with the darker nights of Dynamic weather.

I started my game with the Nighteye edition of this mod. I then swithced to the normal edition with the darker nights.

Now I have mixed up nights.

Sometimes there is the very bright vanilla night and sometimes there is the total darkness of darker nights.

Example: Outside of Megaton there is the very bright night. When I enter Megaton, everything is dark. There are also times when Megaton has vanilla nights.

Here is my loadorder (Masterupdate):

I also tried the new rain version and I got the feeling that it increased the number of crashes. (I used Enhanced Weather Rain 1.5)
Not sure about this, have to test a little more.

I have the same issue actually with one of my characters in progress. Murky brown darkness inside Megaton, a night almost as clear as day outside the gate.

Hey guys, sorry to hear you're having problems. :(

Couple of things for you to check:

Make sure you have the most recent updates from my http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607 - if you're using older versions (which I've since taken down), you will need to update - especially the Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp - it's a completely different file than version 1.0.

Load Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm as your last esm, and
Load all esp's (starting with Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp) last in your load order.

Ensure you have the default brightness setting in "Settings" - you should have 8 bars by default.

If you've previously messed with fGamma settings in the falloutprefs.ini, push the brightness setting up a notch (9 bars) then down again (8 bars). You could just go into the falloutprefs.ini and set fgamma=1.0000 by default, but fallout 3 seems to want to set it's own value here anyway. With 8 bars I have fGamma=0.9733 and I've seen others recommend fGamma=1.1867 (for reasons unknown) - so I think it's best to let fallout determine what this value should be.

Also, you have to bear in mind that clearness of the sky in Dynamic Weather determines how dark the nights will get - although having wildly different levels of darkness in and out of megaton isn't right. It should be noted that megaton is slightly darker due a imagespace tint used in that cell - something I didn't touch in case of compatibility issues with other megaton changing mods.

Anyway, I've just been in and made a couple of screenshots. This is what I'm, seeing with Dynamic Weather:

http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/93403146-4.jpg
http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/93403160-4.jpg

And with Vanilla:

Hopefully, that should set you straight. If not, come back with some screenshots (including time) and load orders and we'll see if there's anything I can do.

Thanks will have a fiddle with it when I get some time. Only other piece of info that might be relevant in my case is I've installed the 2 street lights mods and have applied the suggested ini tweaks in their readme's... See below fyi. I'm to inexperienced to know if these make a difference when mixed with Dynamic Weather :shrug:

fLightLODDefaultStartFade=10240.0fLightLODRange=10240.0fLightLODMinStartFade=10240.0fLightLODMaxStartFade=10240.0fShadowLODDefaultStartFade=200.0fShadowLODRange=200.0fShadowLODMinStartFade=100.0fShadowLODMaxStartFade=1000.0fSpecularLODDefaultStartFade=10240.0fSpecularLODRange=10240.0fSpecularLODMinStartFade=10240.0fSpecularLODMaxStartFade=10240.0

Anyway will have a play around with it and see how it goes.

Cheers

Well I've just been playing around with Streetlights and those ini values and I'm not conviced that that would be causing the issues described.

Looking through fo3edit also doesn't appear to show evidence of any conflicts that affect the lighting - and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary whilst running in and out of megaton.

So, either there's another mod conflicting somewhere or you're misinterpreting the brighter weather types (ie those with clear skies) for vanilla ones.

If anyone else has got any ideas feel free to chime in, because I'm not really sure what the problem might be here. :shrug:

Thanks for checking. Don't stress too much, it's not really bothering me. I'm more concerned about checking the mod is working properly as it looks really good :)

Is it possible to change the weather via the console or something so I can test night time conditions with various the cloud covers from Dynamic Weather?

Thanks again.
